I, Konoha’s Sage of Life-Chapter 399 399: The Tenseigan? Can You Even Handle It?

Chapter 399

The next day, Hiashi rushed over in a panic.
"I went through the entire Hyūga clan with Hizashi. The only ones who sensed anything were the two of us. Even then, I was barely affected, and Hizashi felt almost nothing."
"Perfectly normal. Hizashi's been sealed with the Caged Bird since childhood. His bloodline purity isn't actually low, but the seal heavily suppresses how much of that translates into the Byakugan's sensory ability."
Everything was exactly as Kyoichi expected.
Having Hiashi re-check the clan was mostly to let Hiashi himself fully understand the situation.
And judging by the fact that he came back, Hiashi clearly had.
"So your guess might be right. The Byakugan lineage on the moon must have run into trouble. I suspect… something similar to how Uchiha Madara created the Rinnegan."
Hiashi had already formed a theory—though he didn't quite dare believe it.
What kind of disturbance on the moon could ripple down enough that someone on earth could feel even the faintest reaction?
Of course…
Had Kyoichi not pointed it out, he would've dismissed the entire episode as his wife and unborn child simply being stressed or startled. He wouldn't have given his own discomfort a second thought.
The reaction was so faint, so subtle, that unless someone specifically called attention to it, one would never notice.
But once pointed out…
Ah. It really does seem like that…
Hiashi now found himself drawing connections—dangerous ones.
If Ōtsutsuki Hamura once fought alongside the Sage of Six Paths to seal away Kaguya, then his power was undeniably beyond ordinary. Certainly far beyond the level of their ancestor, Hyūga Tenjin.
After all…
Tenjin was a legend, sure—but even legends like Hashirama and Madara far surpassed him. Madara awakened the Rinnegan; Hashirama possessed a perfect Sage Body and Sage Mode.
Compared to those monsters, Tenjin wasn't even in the same league.
So then…
Could Hamura's Byakugan be on a higher tier as well?
No way…
Of course…
This was all just Hiashi's speculation.
Kyoichi didn't need to probe to know exactly what was going through Hiashi's head:
He's trying to figure out whether the Byakugan has a higher form—and whether Hamura once possessed that level.
The truth was: he did not.
Ōtsutsuki Kaguya and Hamura both possessed Byakugan, but the so-called "higher form" was something the clan only discovered and developed later. In simple terms, it was a mutation—a rare byproduct of their bloodline.
Right now, the moon was likely in the middle of a civil conflict between their Main and Branch families.
That giant purple eye—the Tenseigan—had probably already begun to form.
Kyoichi looked up toward the moon.
"You suspect a higher tier of Byakugan emerged up there? Well… not impossible. But even if we know something happened, it's not like we can fly to the moon."
He shrugged.
Hiashi went speechless.
He hadn't been asking how to fly to the moon.
What he wanted to know was: how did they obtain a stronger Byakugan?
What exactly happened up there?
But Kyoichi's answer clearly implied he didn't know either.
Which made sense—Kyoichi didn't even have a Byakugan to begin with, and the Hyūga had never provided samples for the Research Division to examine in depth.
If he did know the details…
Hiashi would probably be terrified.
Now Hiashi fell into a deeper hesitation.
"Hiashi-senpai, if you're wondering how such an eye is obtained, I think… you don't need to. Think of the moon clan as another Hyūga branch. They have Main and Branch families just like you."
"Mm…"
"What kind of event would create this level of disturbance?"
"Uh…"
The answer was obvious.
Civil war.
Not just any civil war—but one so extreme it could lead to annihilation. Otherwise, such a massive reaction would never occur.
In other words…
Did they sacrifice their entire clan to forge an eye?
Hiashi felt his heart jump at the thought.
If that were true, the Main House's control over the Branch House meant they could very well force such a ritual.
He glanced at Kyoichi.
Kyoichi's eyes held a very telling expression.
"Hiashi-senpai, a power obtained through such methods… is not necessarily a blessing. The price is far too great."
Hiashi nodded solemnly.
Sacrificing an entire clan for an unknown eye—no sane person would even consider it.
But…
If others within the clan learned of such a possibility…
It would no longer be a matter of whether Hiashi wanted it, but whether the Branch family would allow the Main family to remain alive.
At this point, he could already imagine what had happened on the moon.
The Branch family rebelled!
"If you don't intend to pursue that path, then let it die here. Besides, according to the Great Toad Sage, your ancient ancestors only had ordinary Byakugan."
Kyoichi casually dropped that line, refusing to go deeper.
Beyond this point, it was Hyūga family business.
And he had zero interest in meddling in clan politics.
It was messy, thankless, and as an outsider he risked offending both sides for no gain.
Not worth it.
If push came to shove, he could always act later.
Even if Hiashi did try something reckless—no matter how many Branch members he absorbed—neither Kyoichi nor Minato would have trouble killing him before he grew too powerful.
And as for immediate detection…
The current acting head of the Anbu was Kohinata Mukai.
He had no love for the Main House.
He was definitely watching them closely.
Finally, Kyoichi added:
"It's not just dojutsu or purity—chakra matters as well. The Rinnegan also requires special chakra conditions. But I trust your judgment."
"Of course. A clan versus some elusive eye… I know which matters more. Thank you, Kyoichi. But if you end up leaving, about that seal we discussed earlier…"
Hiashi and Kyoichi had an agreement.
If the Hyūga ever wished to dismantle the Caged Bird seal, they could work with Konoha to do so. Hiashi had attempted to study it alone, still hoping the clan could keep things internal.
But now he understood.
A single clan's ability was limited.
Partnering with Konoha was the only realistic path.
Except…
Now it looked like Tsunade and Kyoichi were both planning to leave.
And with each Hokage came a new administration.
Would agreements made with the old one still hold?
"You can relax. Minato wants peace just as much as we do. Work with him. When it comes to sealing techniques, he and Kushina are actually better than me."
"If something happens, have Minato send me a message."
Kyoichi smiled.
This was never going to be solved during Tsunade's term anyway.
And Minato—given his personality—would definitely agree to help.
That last line was merely to ease Hiashi's worries.
And it did.
Hiashi did trust Minato.
But compared to Minato… he believed in Kyoichi far more.
Ever since Kyoichi's rise to fame, the number of new jutsu he had introduced was staggering.
If Kyoichi were the one handling it, Hiashi would truly feel at ease.
