I Really Didn’t Want to Be a Trainer-Chapter 682: Olympia’s Prophecy! Two Meteorites
August 7, Saturday.
Although it was the beginning of autumn, the weather remained blisteringly hot.
Teacher Lu’s Kanto assessment trip was already more than halfway complete.
Although Janine constantly worried about being eliminated, as the daughter of Poison Elite Four member Koga, Ninja Janine wielded venomous techniques with unsurprising ease.
Lu Ye found the Fuchsia Gym deep in the mountains outside Fuchsia City and encountered the trainer archetype known as “Ninja.”
Her partners were mostly weird and edgy: dual Sludge Bomb Koffing using “Mist Shadow Technique,” Ariados using “Binding Technique”… the whole vibe was delightfully dramatic.
Passing through the metropolis of Celadon City, Lu Ye strolled around Celadon University and learned he had already been recommended to the university’s main campus to serve as an honorary lecturer.
If he were to be promoted to professor, transferring to head another trainers’ school wouldn’t be surprising at all.
The headmaster of the Alola Trainer Academy, Professor Samuel Oak of Alola, was also a graduate of Celadon University.
Lu Ye planned to retire and take Mengmengda on a trip to the Alola region… it should be very comfortable there.
Lila’s perfume shop in Celadon City was very famous.
On a clerk’s recommendation, Lu Ye bought a bottle of “Skunky Flower No. 5” perfume, planning to give it to Cynthia.
During the gym assessment, when Latias stepped onto the field,
Lila was genuinely surprised and chose to counter with the ornate technique “Aromatherapy Waltz” from her Bellossom.
As Celadon’s leading gym representative, Lila’s strength was unquestionable;
even little Latias looked inexperienced before her.
But the commander issuing the orders was Teacher Lu, the “trickster of dirty tactics”…
After Calm Mind steadied itself against the onslaught of Magical Leaf, Latias used Icy Wind to slow the falling petals and then swept the descending cherry blossoms aside with Flamethrower.
The scene reminded Lila of her battle with Mr. Liu Bo, and she sighed softly while raising her hand to concede.
“Just lucky,” Lu Ye said modestly.
“You’re as humble as ever…” Lila pursed her lips and asked, “Does that mean I passed the assessment too?”
“Of course.” Lu Ye nodded. “With that, only two gyms remain in Kanto.”
“Which two?”
“Siebold’s Volcanic Gym on Twin Island…and Marshal’s Vermilion Gym.”
Lu Ye had no intention of assessing Green’s Cerulean Gym at all.
Rather than testing Green, it was better to let him spend time training Ash intensively.
As for Volcanic Gym, because of the volcano’s eruption it had relocated to nearby Twin Island.
With any luck, they might even meet Lorelei there during training… she and Articuno had met at Twin Island.
Leaving Celadon City, Lu Ye sat cross-legged on Blastoise’s shell and traveled by water toward Twin Island.
Perhaps intimidated by Blastoise’s aura… not a single Tentacool appeared along the way.
Bored, Teacher Lu pulled out his Super Rod, fishing for a giant level-40 Magikarp while resting his chin on his hand and sighing:
“How did Lana even catch a Kyogre… someone like Ruby could at least catch a Magikarp!”
By rights, Teacher Lu’s fishing skill wasn’t inferior to fishing ace Little Ash.
But in Kanto, Magikarp and such weren’t so easy to hook… fishing also depended heavily on luck.
Back in his GBA Emerald days, Lu Ye had farmed the fixed Magikarp spot for three days straight without seeing a single one.
As for Ruby’s Magikarp… it kept biting and wouldn’t let go. That’s what a bond is!
The sea glittered under the sun as the shell bobbed lazily.
A few suntanned swimmers wanted to challenge him to Pokémon battles, but seeing the “obviously a boss” Blastoise, they wisely backed off.
“I could actually carry you and fly.” Latias said softly.
“I know.” Lu Ye kept his fishing posture. “But it’s not time yet.”
“Why?” Latias blinked.
Lu Ye: “Because… my gear hasn’t arrived.”
Over the past few days, Latias had clearly grown a little closer to Teacher Lu.
However… Lu Ye wasn’t mentally ready yet;
he needed to ensure safety first!
The surface of the sea lay still and monotonous.
Lu Ye yawned and looked at the hovering Rotom Pokédex beside him:
“Little Rotom, any news?”
“Beep beep… The psychic Olympia you follow will arrive in Miare City today, Rotom!”
Lu Ye slightly startled.
Olympia, the psychic with prophetic ability…
Teacher Lu never took “prophecy” seriously;
even if fate were foretold, it had to be forged by one’s own hands.
Still… Lu Ye felt the atmosphere of an approaching storm.
Glancing at the clear blue sky, a chill ran down his spine and he murmured:
“There’s a very unpleasant feeling…”
**
Miare City, Spring Boulevard.
Outside a luxuriously decorated club salon, Clemont showed the attendant two invitations.
Led by the attendant, Clemont and Bonnie walked down the hushed corridor.
“Does each guest get a private meeting with Olympia?” Clemont asked quietly.
The attendant was a mature woman, and following her with an elegant bearing was Gothitelle, who answered with a smile:
“That’s right… because each guest comes with different questions. Some seek to practice psychic powers, some come to have their Pokémon treated…”
“Olympia is also a doctor?” Bonnie asked in surprise.
“No. But Olympia will deduce the appropriate doctor and then direct the guest to have their Pokémon examined…” the attendant replied.
“That sounds completely unscientific.” Clemont muttered softly.
The corridor was dimly lit, decorated with paintings and lamps shaped like candle spirits. When the carved-pattern door opened, a beam of light slowly unfolded before the siblings.
“Then I will take my leave.” The attendant excused herself.
Clemont saw a walkway leading to a circular central platform. A woman in a silver cloak stood with her back turned;
on the velvet cloth before her sat a crystal ball.
There were no railings along the corridor sides, only an abyssal blackness outside.
Clemont was surprised that Miare City possessed such a peculiar space.
“Maybe it’s a psychic-created illusion,” Clemont thought to himself.
At that moment, light rose from the darkness as if fog cleared and stars bloomed across the ceiling, illuminating the central passage.
Olympia turned around. The pattern under her silver cloak depicted night and stars;
she said softly, “Clemont, Bonnie, I have been waiting a long time.”
“You know us?” Clemont’s voice trembled with a hint of nervousness.
“I know your father. He is an excellent gym leader and has remarkable children.”
Olympia smiled and waved her cloak. A blue psychic wave washed over Bonnie, who floated down the star-lit corridor toward the platform.
Bonnie, untroubled, exclaimed with wonder: “Brother, I’m flying!”
“Bonnie!” Clemont tensed and shouted, “Clemontic Gear, activate!”
Clemont’s backpack launched a mechanical arm that grabbed Bonnie’s collar and pulled her back to his side.
Bonnie stuck out her tongue and apologized to Olympia: “Sorry… my brother has no imagination!”
“He’s the odd one,” Clemont huffed.
“No matter.” Olympia smiled. “Trust must be cultivated gradually.”
The crystal ball floated beside her as Olympia walked the corridor toward Clemont and Bonnie, stepping in silver heels.
Only then did Clemont get a good look at Olympia’s neck and large silver bracelets;
she wore star-shaped earrings. Her hair was deep purple and her sun-kissed complexion gave her a gypsy-like appearance.
“Hello, Clemont.” Olympia reached out with a smile. “Fate tells me you will become an excellent gym leader.”
Clemont adjusted his round glasses and shook her hand skeptically: “Hello… Miss Olympia.”
“Olympia!” Bonnie’s bright eyes sparkled. “Can you tell me what kind of Pokémon I’ll catch in the future?”
“Is that your question, little Bonnie?” Olympia placed her hands on her knees and leaned forward.
“Yes! That’s it.” Bonnie nodded vigorously.
Compared to knowing who his future bride might be… I’d rather know Bonnie’s future Pokémon!
“Then… the starlight will witness your fate.”
Olympia gestured, and the starlight along the corridor shimmered as the crystal ball rotated of its own accord.
Suddenly, Olympia frowned unexpectedly and stared hard at Bonnie.
“What’s wrong?” Bonnie tilted her head.
“Hmph, I told you this sort of thing can’t be predicted!” Clemont crossed his arms.
Olympia fell silent for a moment. The fate she saw made her uneasy, but she still smiled:
“Bonnie… you will foresee an Electric-type Pokémon you will adore;
it will be a very cute Pokémon.”
“Really? That’s wonderful! Thank you, Miss Olympia!” Bonnie squealed with delight.
A shadow flashed through the vision;
if Olympia’s guess was right, it might be the guardian of Kalos, Xerneas.
Olympia smiled at Bonnie and felt anew the wonder of fate’s endless turns.
Compared to the shock Bonnie brought, Olympia felt a deeper reverence for destiny.
“Now then…” Olympia looked at Clemont. “What is your question?”
Clemont glanced at his enthusiastic sister and felt curious.
Though the power of “science” was magnificent, the Pokémon world still held undeniable “legacies.”
Clemont cleared his throat and deliberately posed a tricky question:
“I want to know the exact time and location of the Litleo meteor shower that Verdanturf City’s observatory predicted!”
A flicker of surprise crossed Olympia’s face: “Are you sure you want to ask that?”
“Hmph, is that a hard question?” Clemont squinted. “Compared to prophecy, this is science measured by telescopes!”
“Brother!” Bonnie’s tone carried reproach.
“It’s fine.” Olympia’s smile deepened and her eyes lowered: “Very well, let it be this question.”
The stars along the corridor flashed again and the crystal ball’s image unfolded slowly before Olympia’s eyes.
Hoenn… Verdanturf City… the meteor shower…
Suddenly Olympia’s eyes widened as a powerful sense of danger surged through her.
She saw a pair of crimson, icy, murderous eyes, a snake-like body slipping through the sky’s shadow!
She couldn’t bear to watch further…
Yet.
Olympia clenched her teeth. The duty to prophesy disaster compelled her to endure a splitting headache and peer further into fate’s trail.
Crack, crack!
The crystal ball cracked. Bonnie and Clemont’s eyes widened.
Bang!
The held-back psychic current failed, and the crystal ball suddenly fell and shattered all over the floor!
“Olympia, are you alright?” Bonnie steadied Olympia, who had half-kneeling clutched her temple.
“I-I’m fine…” Olympia shook her head and forced a weak smile. “As for Clemont’s question, I already have the answer.”
Bonnie scolded Clemont with her eyes.
Clemont waved his hands anxiously: “I didn’t know this would happen just from predicting a meteor shower!”
“No… it was my personal forecast that happened to correspond with that meteor shower.” Olympia said. “There will be one… no, two meteorites appearing in Hoenn, and the key to solving it…”
Her words faltered as she refused to recall the pair of murderous red eyes.
She couldn’t even imagine who could gain the recognition of a “dragon god” and thus avert the looming catastrophe…
“Meteorites? Two? What does that mean!” Clemont asked curiously.
Do prophets always like to speak in riddles?
“The Litleo meteor shower will arrive above Hoenn’s Littleroot City in twenty days,” Olympia answered Clemont’s question.
“And accompanying that meteor shower will come…”
A truly terrifying calamity!
Her instincts warned Olympia, but fate had not fully revealed itself, so she could not say more to Clemont and Bonnie.
Clemont and Bonnie looked baffled, thanked her, and prepared to leave: “Thank you very much, Miss Olympia… Well then, Bonnie and I will take our leave?”
“Wait!”
Olympia suddenly remembered something and snapped her head up, quickly asking:
“Kalos’s champion Karine—is she currently in Miare City?”
“She left Miare City to shoot a new movie, didn’t she?” Clemont replied.
“Then… Mr. Lu Ye?” Olympia asked.
“Teacher Lu has already left.” Bonnie interjected. “He went to Kanto a few days ago!”
Of all times…
Olympia frowned and asked, “Are the two of you close with Mr. Lu Ye?”
“Sort of.” Clemont scratched his head. “Teacher Lu often comes to Prism Tower and they keep in occasional contact.”
Olympia exhaled and looked seriously at Clemont and Bonnie:
“May I ask a favor of you two?”
“What is it?”
A crystal-ball-shaped badge rose, bathed in a blue psychic glow, and slowly floated into Olympia’s palm.
“I want you to deliver this token to Mr. Lu Ye and convey the plea of ‘Prophet Olympia’—”
Olympia said earnestly:
“On behalf of Littleroot City’s gym leader, I beg Teacher Lu to come to the Hoenn region as soon as possible!”
“Why?” Bonnie tilted her head.
Olympia fell silent and looked up at the domed ceiling. The starlight dimmed.
A rumbling fractured earth, erupting volcanoes;
torrential downpours and backflowing seawater…
Scorching heat waves and violent whirlpools, like the thunder of titanic ancient beasts colliding.
All of it… all of it was beyond comprehension and beyond immediate solution.
But a champion must appear there.
Perhaps it was fate, perhaps a summons from Arceus.
Olympia stared into the dim starlight and felt an unreasoning trust in a trainer she had never met.
Perhaps.
Simply because he was Teacher Lu.
