I Really Didn’t Want to Be a Trainer-Chapter 699: The Last Supper, Departing for Space!

The condition for Rayquaza’s Mega Evolution is that the successor resonates with Rayquaza, then uses the move “Dragon Ascent.”
Like the ultimate moves of starter Pokémon, it requires a deep bond between trainer and Pokémon to execute reliably.
At this moment.
The unknown Unown totem carved on the golden scroll pulsed with flowing golden light, vivid and lifelike, as if warmly responding to Teacher Lu.
Lu Ye: "……"
I roughly understand now.
The resonance condition is to "comprehend" the scroll, then form a bond with Rayquaza and guide him to use "Dragon Ascent."
Lu Ye glanced up at Rayquaza, slightly dazed.
It seems I... can actually make Rayquaza successfully Mega Evolve!
Rayquaza and Lu Ye stared at each other, both looking a little odd.
No way.
Could it be that among this group, the person best suited to be the successor is this guy right in front of us!?
"You understood it?" Rayquaza probed.
Lu Ye: "Somewhat, somewhat."
Rayquaza secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Better if he didn't understand.
If he truly understood the scroll and actually got me to Mega Evolve... that would mean an invisible bond had been forged.
Rayquaza shot a glance at Lu Ye and felt a chill down his spine.
Forming a bond with this shameless human... probably best to avoid it!
Under pressure... (×)
Through the intermediation and negotiation of Arceus's messenger. (√)
Cooperation reached a successful conclusion.
Rayquaza would carry the successor—and Lu Ye as well—out into outer space to shatter the approaching colossal meteor.
This would not only protect the ozone layer Rayquaza relied on to live, but also earn Rayquaza a big meal!
For Zinnia, Ruby and Sapphire would take on the successor's duty in her stead.
And for Devon Corporation, clearing Hoenn's crisis only required one crucial final step.
That step was to make space suits for Teacher Lu and the others!
Devon’s technological prowess was plain to see. If worse came to worst, Lu Ye still had the Trio to lend Devon their help.
Team Rocket would handle the core tech!
The departure for space was tentatively scheduled for three days from now.
Rayquaza would perch atop the Sky Pillar, waiting while Lu Ye and the others finished their preparations.
Breathing out, Rayquaza released ozone from his body;
a mist enveloped him to promote sleep as he lazily yawned.
His upper body lowered, coiled upon his verdant, hulking frame, eyes half-closed as he looked at the black-haired youth preparing to depart.
Behind him, Giratina drifted in the air, the platinum helmet hiding crimson eyes that stared at Rayquaza:
"Apologies—he is Arceus’s messenger, and he did us a favor."
To this day, Giratina still remembered the collapsing canopy over Michina, and the image of Lu Ye standing alone confronting Arceus.
"I know."
Rayquaza glanced at Lu Ye with an oblique look;
his arrogant temper seemed to shrink as he calmly replied:
"He quelled the conflict between Groudon and Kyogre, and I witnessed it all."
Giratina looked slightly surprised, then watched Rayquaza, who, without losing face, said:
"I will grant him this courtesy, because he truly possesses the qualities of a hero, a champion, and a teacher."
Though his methods were a tad dirty, his skin a bit thick, and his persuasion skills a touch too slick... Rayquaza grumbled inwardly.
Giratina nodded slightly, as if reconciling with Rayquaza, and then said:
"I look forward to a chance to fight side by side with you, to witness the majesty of the Sky Deity."
Rayquaza snorted coldly, lowered his body, shut his yellow eyes, and fell silent.
Hidden in Lu Ye’s shadow, Darkrai’s expression suddenly changed.
Side by side in battle!?
That would only happen in a world-ending disaster—Giratina and Rayquaza fighting together?
Darkrai peeked at Lu Ye with complicated emotions and murmured:
"It used to be impossible... but with Lu Ye involved, it's not so certain anymore!"
Zekrom flapped his black-and-gold mechanical wings and thudded down next to Lu Ye, saying in a deep voice:
"Lu Ye, I must go. I’m heading back to meet N."
"How is he now?" Lu Ye asked about his student.
"He rebuilt Team Plasma and continued to pursue the ideal of freeing Pokémon. I trust the hero I believe in, so I will travel with N..."
Zekrom gazed at the sky, then paused and said respectfully:
"Also... thank you for helping N find direction, Teacher Lu."
Lu Ye smiled faintly and urged:
"Have a quick meal before you go."
Zekrom looked toward his brother;
Reshiram beat her snow-white wings and settled beside Lu Ye, her gaze fixed on him.
Mediating the quarrel between Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, confronting the Sky Deity Rayquaza—
The reason I recognize him as a hero is precisely because of his courage, the reality he displays.
"Not impossible," Reshiram said confidently. "We’ll keep our size in check and not disturb humans."
"We could actually go to the Reversed World," Lu Ye suggested. "Haunter hid ingredients and Rotom’s cookware there;
making a fire and cooking will be no problem!"
"Gengarrr~ ta-da!" Haunter theatrically pulled a big leek out of the shadows.
The commemorative Poké Ball at his waist jostled violently.
Lu Ye called out in a relaxed tone: "Relax—this is a coarse stalk of leek, not Farfetch'd’s big leek... if there's enough ingredient."
[Coarse stalk of leek: A common ingredient used for cooking at campsites.]
"Ga! (´థ౪థ)σ" Sirfetch’d blinked with tears.
If ingredients weren’t enough, are you planning to go after other ingredients!?
Reversed World? Ingredients? Cookware?
Dialga and Palkia abruptly turned their heads to look at Giratina.
Giratina looked embarrassed and averted his gaze.
Dropping ingredients and cookware into the Reversed World is one thing—he was just grateful he didn’t end up throwing lightning or flames in there!
Everyone stared blankly at Teacher Lu, who chatted casually with legendary Pokémon.
This situation... it seemed only Red, who was friendly with Mewtwo and Deoxys, could pull something like this off.
No... Teacher Lu simultaneously coaxed five legendary dragons. Even Red or Lance, the Dragon emissary, couldn’t compare!
"Maybe we shouldn’t mention this in the chat," Steven thought to himself. "It might provoke Lance..."
Whoosh—
Palkia swung his spatial blade and cut open a rippling doorway.
Lu Ye turned and walked through, calling back:
"All right, teleporting back to Kanaz City."
"Sapphire," Steven said, "bring that girl along too."
"Got it!"
Sapphire slung Zinnia's arm over her shoulder;
the black-haired girl offered no resistance, her face full of existential doubt.
She suddenly remembered the rumors about Teacher Lu.
Loves entering the Baby Cup, misses Water Gun four times in a row, and has a core team no one has seen—
Zinnia looked dazed, staring up at Lu Ye surrounded by the black-and-white dragons and, above them, the Sinnoh trio floating in the sky, Lu Ye chatting as if it were all normal.
Her worldview shattered with a "kala" sound;
Zinnia drifted into a trance and whispered:
"I must... be dreaming."
...
Rayquaza watched Lu Ye and the others depart.
Ruby left a spicy red cube as Rayquaza’s bedtime dessert.
Teacher Lu had even spicier tree fruits... but those were set aside for A-Jin.
Next time, beyond a "Moltres-level" spicy curry, maybe we can invent "Entei-level" or "Groudon-level."
Palkia’s spatial teleportation opened at Devon’s plaza—much handier than Fly.
Steven and the others hurried back to Devon Corporation to prepare for the space mission three days from now.
How Zinnia would reconcile with Devon was a matter for President Zinnia’s company and Steven.
Lu Ye planned to first go to the Reversed World, camping and picnicking with five legendary dragons... good luck to anyone else trying that. JPG
Reversed World, Tree of Beginning.
Lu Ye looked up through the mirror at the lush Tree of Beginning, standing on a floating platform, and mused:
"It really is a perfect picnic spot."
From an ordinary perspective, Lu Ye was upside down in zero gravity, but from his own point of view it felt perfectly normal.
Before him stretched vegetation and streams;
the Reversed World maintained an environment identical to the Tree of Beginning, just with slightly dimmer colors.
The Tree of Beginning’s environment was indeed wonderful.
No wonder Giratina liked staying in this corner of the Reversed World.
Lu Ye nodded slightly.
Worth all the trouble of opening the backyard to the Tree of Beginning!
"Haunter, Sirfetch’d, lend a hand!"
Lu Ye walked to a wide patch of grassy shade;
a breeze rippled across the lawn. The towering World Tree stood in the distance, a river encircled the grass, a makeshift stove was set up, and Lu Ye put on an apron.
Sirfetch’d gripped a cleaver and chopped carrots, onions, and potatoes on a cutting board with excellent knife skills, but when it came to slicing the coarse stalk of leek he burst into tears.
"Ga! (´థ౪థ)σ" Sirfetch’d looked pensive and devoted, staring at the leek beneath the pressure of five guardian beasts.
Sorry... if I don't eat you, I might be the one to get eaten, duck~!
Lu Ye glanced at Sirfetch’d in curiosity, then looked up at the sky.
A gray sky;
a massive floating creature beat its black-striped wings as Giratina swam by, casting shadows over the meadow.
Dialga stood tall amid the grass, over twenty meters high, his vast roar echoing through the Reversed World.
Palkia’s imposing form likewise loomed, in released state, the pearls on his shoulders gleaming.
White Reshiram and black Zekrom lay on the meadow before the simple terrace, relaxing with eyes closed.
"Howl!! (`0´)"
Arcanine darted nimble sprints between the two great dragons, then planted all four paws on the rolling grass and ran with vigor.
Arcanine used Intimidate on Reshiram, Zekrom, Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina!
Five legendary dragons: (⊙ˍ⊙)
Their physical attack fell by one rank!
"Nimi~" Victini flew about freely, occasionally returning to the stove to swipe a macaron while Lu Ye wasn’t looking.
Darkrai leaned against a shady tree, arms folded and napping;
Latias lowered her body to drink by the stream.
Pupitar dug a sand pit by himself. Giratina did not stop him, hovering in the air and watching the pup scoop sand.
"Melo~ (◕ᴗ◕✿)" Meloetta sat on Lu Ye’s shoulder, swinging her slender legs, nibbling a dew-kissed apple fruit.
"Bu-bii! (angry face)"
Not in a rush—when I get the Fairy Plate... I’ve got everyone here noted!
"Toot..." Togepi trotted in little steps as if pondering life, wandering back and forth aimlessly.
Blastoise found a river and lay in it to train.
Lu Ye looked at the delicious-looking curry and handled the final steps—
Add plenty of bond (×) tree fruits (√)
Bang!
As if a sound effect played.
The dish burst into brilliant golden light!
In an instant, every legendary, mythical, and otherwise-unusual Pokémon present turned their eyes toward the glowing golden dish!
Lu Ye calmly put away a glass jar of Golden Razz Berries, slung his kit over one shoulder, clenched a fist, and cleared his throat:
"Everyone—dinner’s served!"
"Beep beep... captured precious photos, Loto~"
The Rotom Pokédex aimed its camera at the meadow, then used its mechanical arm to lift a phone, made a V sign by its eye, and with a click took a selfie.
"Beep beep... suggested name: The Last Supper—"
"Little Rotom, install 360 Butler and Penguin Butler, and throw in Kingsoft Antivirus," Lu Ye said without mercy.
"Beep beep... can’t comprehend, Loto! o(TヘTo)"
...
Saturday, August 26.
To be safe, Lu Ye pulled in the Team Rocket Trio to lend Devon’s equipment department a hand making the space suits.
Clemont learned about this in the chat group and almost got blacklisted by Teacher Lu for offering to help as a scientist.
Lu Ye had mixed feelings.
I haven’t lived enough yet... I don’t want to witness the moment the Clemontic Gear explodes!
Devon Corporation, Verdanturf’s Space Center, and Team Rocket jointly produced the space suits to prepare for the launch.
The Trio wasn’t completely ignorant about rockets... in the Diamond &
Pearl days, they once controlled an evil Togepi-themed rocket and helped everyone escape.
When Boss Giovanni learned Lu Ye was heading to space, he said he’d remain in Hoenn, awaiting Lu Ye’s triumphant return.
Preparations proceeded in orderly fashion.
The next day, Teacher Lu received the suit named the "Rocket Outfit."
[Rocket Outfit: A suit combining Team Rocket scientific technology. Can withstand heavy impact.]
Lu Ye was stunned.
So this is actually a system-certified valuable item!
"Lava Suit, Ocean Suit... those organizations’ tech are trash meow!" Meowth boasted.
"Absorbing the foundations of Lava Team, Aqua Fleet, and Devon tech, we improved it," James rubbed his hands and smiled. "Safety is totally fine!"
Lu Ye: "……"
Those three might actually be able to develop a rocket on their own...
Additionally, Lu Ye received the Prismatic Meteor shards from Steven;
they were the energy core to enable Rayquaza’s Mega Evolution.
With equipment ready, Teacher Lu officially arrived at Verdanturf City's Space Center. The chat group, the Hoenn League, and Devon all received the live feed simultaneously.
Ruby and Sapphire held hands, and under their space suits Ruby had sewn stage outfits for both of them.
"Are you going to shatter the meteor, or propose to Sapphire?" Lu Ye teased.
"Teacher Lu!" Sapphire blushed and shouted indignantly.
Ruby pushed up his glasses and smiled: "When we reach the legal age, I will propose to Sapphire... and we’ll stand on the grandest, most dazzling stage!"
Those two were not even sixteen yet!
Lu Ye felt moved;
Steven smiled, and Wallace grinned.
The three champions watched the sweet young couple and felt a wistful sense of age.
"Lu Ye, please take care of Ruby and Sapphire!" Steven said.
"No problem," Lu Ye replied.
The Trio stood outside the launch pad with tears in their eyes, Meowth clutching a handkerchief as he waved farewell:
"Boss~!"
"Make sure you come back alive! ヘ(;
´Д`ヘ)"
"So~ nashi!"
Lu Ye: "……"
For your heartfelt sincerity, I’ll mercifully not deduct your wages today.
To his surprise, Lu Ye felt not nervous about going to space, but a hazy unreality.
He even felt some longing and fascination for the cosmos.
"Tonight is the Little Luxio meteor shower..."
Lu Ye looked up and reviewed the itinerary, murmuring:
"When I return, I want to see Cynthia with her... I wonder if I’ll make it back in time."
Rumble!!
Suddenly a low thunder rolled through the clear sky, and a green form barreled in through the mist.
The scientists at Verdanturf’s Space Center stared in awe, looking up at the green dragon.
Mr. Lu Ye was about to board the legendary Sky Deity of Hoenn to go to outer space!!
Rayquaza coiled his hulking body and hovered in the sky, claws spread as he glowered down at Lu Ye.
"I will fulfill my promise—Arceus’s messenger."
Lu Ye smiled slightly;
his expression grew resolute. Cradling his space helmet in one arm, he stared up at the deep blue sky.
"Rayquaza."
Lu Ye took a deep breath and said with conviction:
"Let’s go to space together!"
Rayquaza fell silent for a moment, then erupted into a roar, and to the stunned gazes of everyone present, landed in front of Lu Ye.
"This will be our last cooperation," Rayquaza said.
"I don’t expect another," Lu Ye agreed with a nod.
Ruby and Sapphire donned their suits and took their places on Rayquaza’s body, secured by specially made harnesses.
Lu Ye planted his feet on the anchors and gripped the two horns on Rayquaza’s head with both hands.
Rayquaza: ?
"I’m afraid of heights," Lu Ye admitted honestly.
Rayquaza: "……"
You’re afraid of heights and yet you’re going to space?
With zero gravity up there you won’t be afraid anymore!?
"Roar!!" Rayquaza bellowed in exasperation, allowing Lu Ye to hold the horns on his forehead as a fierce blast of wind rippled outward!
The researchers were silent;
Steven and Wallace, the two champions, were also shaken by the scene before them.
A tiny human collaborating with the Sky Deity Rayquaza to march into space!
"Rayquaza!"
Lu Ye shouted:
"Use ExtremeSpeed!!"
Rumble!
Like thunder breaking ground, Rayquaza adjusted his angle. Surrounded by a protective barrier, he launched into the air along a smooth trajectory, carving a snowy-white flight path through the clouds.
Everyone watched that verdant-gold hulking form streak into the sky, their minds dazed and unable to look away.
The three boys from Kanto who came to see them off stared up, pupils contracting.
A-Jin reacted first.
"Holy crap!"
The duckbill-hat teenager, shouldering a pool cue and shading his brow to watch, shouted:
"Teacher Lu is going to the sky!!"
