Chapter 36: An Astonishing Discovery—Do I Actually Have a Fellow Countryman Who’s the God of Wisdom?
Broken stone pillars.
Like the ribs of a giant beast stabbing toward the sky.
A half-collapsed archway gaped open, pitch-black inside.
As if mocking intruders in silence.
“Tsk~ what a ruin. Truly worthy of being called an ancient creation.”
Lynn surveyed it briefly, gathering a faint glimmer of light in his palm.
He successfully dispersed the thick darkness inside the gate.
Dust drifted down with a soft rustle.
The air was filled with a musty scent of decay and a faint, strange metallic rust.
Fearless, Lynn swaggered right in as if strolling through a market—into the ruin that Liz had judged dangerous.
After walking a short distance—
Lynn found a pile of collapsed boulders completely blocking the path.
Enough to stop ordinary adventurers.
“Fortunately, it’s just ordinary stone. Its hardness shouldn’t be too high.”
After examining it for a moment,
Holy Light gathered in his palm into a burning sphere of energy.
Boom!
A muffled explosion followed.
Rubble scattered and dust billowed.
With a wave of Lynn’s hand, the smoke slowly cleared, revealing a deep, shadowed corridor behind.
“Hm? What’s that?”
On both sides of the corridor walls—
Were sprawling, timeworn murals, their colors flaking yet still vividly clear.
Lynn slowed his steps, studying them with growing interest.
“How intriguing.”
Though ancient in style, the murals’ brushwork was astonishingly precise—almost lifelike!
And they seemed to tell a legendary story:
A human alchemist wearing strange robes, his gaze fervent, knelt before a blurry, radiant figure that emitted a gentle glow.
That figure, though indistinct, rivaled Lynn’s own angelic form—and carried a towering aura of wisdom.
“The God of Wisdom in the heavens granting knowledge to mortals on earth?” Lynn murmured with a raised brow.
The following scenes undoubtedly confirmed his suspicion.
This sage—Alchemist Eldwin—had been fortunate enough to receive divine knowledge and began to create miracles.
He drew intricate blueprints, which craftsmen used to forge roaring beasts of steel.
He also created immense globes that soared across the sky—and even metallic birds with wings that could glide among the clouds!
Lynn gawked, blurting out:
“Isn’t that a steam locomotive, a hot air balloon, and an early airplane?!”
“Good grief!”
“This isn’t divine knowledge—it’s a whole tech package from Earth!”
He felt both absurd and amused.
Could this so-called God of Wisdom actually be a fellow transmigrant from Earth, just as unlucky as him?
After all, this mural was practically a fantasy-world version of technological history!
Yet as he continued examining them—
Lynn realized the murals grew increasingly beyond his expectations.
Alchemist Eldwin gradually became unsatisfied with merely replicating the God of Wisdom’s knowledge.
He began merging those blueprints with arcane magic circles that shimmered with magical light!
No longer simple mechanical constructs—but constructs with smooth contours and runes that glowed faintly!
Some were cleaning rooms, others were cooking meals.
Some even wielded light blades and laser cannons, battling ferocious giant beasts!
“Magic… robots?”
Lynn gasped sharply, his heart pounding.
This Eldwin wasn’t just a rare genius—he was audacious beyond belief!
He had actually fused technology and magic—two entirely different systems—and forcibly combined them to create magical automatons with artificial intelligence!
It was truly beyond imagination!
Especially for Lynn, who had lived so long in this medieval-level world—the shock hit even harder.
He had once thought this world was far behind Earth in development.
Now, it seemed… not nearly as simple as it looked!
“Huh? That’s it?”
The murals suddenly ended.
As though the latter half of the story had been torn away.
But as Lynn stared at the blank wall, a spark of excitement lit in his eyes.
“There might be treasures buried in this ruin.”
“Those magical robots might still be hidden in the deepest part!”
Curiosity fueled him, and Lynn strode briskly along the corridor.
If he could grasp the technology behind those magical robots—it would be an immense boon for the development of Holy Light Town, and a great help in countering the threat of the Undead Scourge!
At last, he reached the end of the corridor—only to find a massive door blocking his path.
Unlike the rough stone archway at the entrance, this door was forged entirely from a cold, gleaming alloy.
Heavy, smooth, and perfectly fitted into the stone wall.
At its center was a hand-shaped recess—surrounded by delicate glowing lines like a circuit board.
“Wait, isn’t this a fingerprint lock?”
“So we’re going from western fantasy straight to sci-fi now?”
Lynn’s mouth twitched. The absurdity only deepened.
Eldwin’s later technological level—in some ways, might have surpassed even Earth before Lynn’s transmigration.
But why, then, was there not even a steam engine left on this continent?
These technologies, far ahead of their time, seemed to have vanished—erased completely from history.
And what of that “God of Wisdom” fellow countryman?
What had happened afterward?
What kind of catastrophe had left this world without divine descent for a millennium?
Lynn’s mind brimmed with questions.
But he shook his head helplessly, setting those thoughts aside for now.
The pressing issue was how to enter the core of the ruin.
Although his angelic incarnation could freely imitate shapes—it still needed the original owner’s handprint to copy the fingerprint.
But where was he supposed to find the hand of an alchemist who had been dead for who-knew-how-long?
“Forcing my way in won’t work… then I’ll just try the backdoor.”
Lynn grinned—he wasn’t one to give up easily.
He leaned closer to the fingerprint device.
Holy Light condensed into an ultra-thin blade of light, carefully prying open the casing.
Inside was an even more complex structure—metal threads fine as hair, a baseboard inlaid with miniature magical crystals, and tiny conduits pulsing with faint energy flow.
“The core node of the energy circuit… there it is!”
Relying on his understanding of technological principles and his incarnation’s sensitivity to energy flow,
Lynn finally located the key node to bypass authentication.
He simulated a subtle energy pulse of a specific frequency with Holy Light and injected it cautiously.
Buzz.
A faint hum sounded.
From within the heavy alloy door came the grinding of gears and the hiss of hydraulic rods extending.
A white, cold light leaked through the door seams.
The door slowly slid open inward.
“Whew, finally done.”
Lynn had just breathed a sigh of relief—
“Warning! Warning!”
“Unauthorized access detected! Intruder alert!”
“Defense protocol activated!”
A harsh electronic voice suddenly blared throughout the chamber.
Along with the alarm, the once-soft white light had already turned blood-red.
“You’ve got to be kidding me—triggered the alarm anyway?!”
Lynn’s mouth twitched.
But his reaction was swift—
Holy Light instantly formed a shield around his body as he leaped back.
