Immortal Travel of Longevity-Chapter 187: Mountain Dividing Worlds, Splitting the Mortal World

A night of heavy rain left the mountain damp. A light breath brought the fresh scent of pine, sharp and invigorating.
Water droplets gathered on pine needles, swelling at each tip before falling into the courtyard of Flowing Cloud Temple.
Under Moyuan’s watchful gaze, Chenghuang took the Soul-Summoning Banner and descended the mountain.
Moyuan asked, puzzled, “Aren’t you worried, Mr. Chen, that he might run off with it?”
Su Junhan shook his head. “He won’t.”
“Perhaps he is the last Chenghuang in this world. He needs to plan carefully for his future.”
Chen Changsheng emerged from the back courtyard.
He looked at Su Junhan and said, “We can set off for Yuan Mountain now.”
Su Junhan nodded. “After you, Mr. Chen.”
Chen Changsheng stepped forward and reached the temple gate.
Moyuan asked, “Mr. Chen, what about Chenghuang…?”
Chen Changsheng replied, “His path is his own from now on.”
Moyuan nodded. “Alright.”
Chen Changsheng rode upon his Immortal Sword. Su Junhan moved ahead to guide the way.
“Um, Mr. Chen…”
Chen Changsheng turned back. “Yes?”
Moyuan said, “Will you return to the temple in a few days?”
Chen Changsheng thought for a moment. “Perhaps.”
“I see…” Moyuan nodded. Then he watched as Mr. Chen flew off on his sword.
After Mr. Chen and Su Junhan departed, Moyuan was the only one left in the temple.
Moyuan had thought, with Su Junhan gone, he might finally find some peace and quiet.
But after spending several hours alone in the temple, he quickly found it dull.
He actually began to miss the noisy and lively atmosphere of before. Now, only the wind and the sounds of the forest remained. It was so quiet, he dozed off under a tree.
After descending the mountain, Chenghuang made his way toward Autumn Moon Market.
He stared at the Soul-Summoning Banner in his hand, thinking deeply for a long time, before finally entering the City God Temple.
His task was to guide all the Wandering Spirits trapped within the banner into Reincarnation. Yet the number of spirits was vast, tens of thousands. The small Autumn Moon Market could not handle them all at once.
Reluctantly, Chenghuang had to move on to the next town to release another portion. He repeated this, journeying from place to place, until every spirit was released into a City God Temple.
Staring at the peaceful mortal world around him, Chenghuang sometimes felt envy toward the Mortals dwelling here. Their lives might be short, but they lived peacefully.
Unlike him, forever hiding from the harsh world.

The Immortal Sword traversed vast distances, streaking over mountains and rivers until they reached the distant northern lands.
Yuan Mountain—Yuan Mountain, meaning the Primordial Mountain, signifying the birthplace of the Fox Clan. Towering snow-covered peaks separated the two worlds; Yuan Mountain lay just beyond them.
Chen Changsheng gazed at the mountain range dividing the worlds. He couldn’t help but marvel at the extraordinary sight—lush lands on both sides, yet only this range bore a pure white crown.
Su Junhan spoke: “This is the Mountain of Two Worlds. It divides the Mortal World. Beyond it lies the Mountain Range of the Hundred Demons, where nearly all the Yao Race gather.”
Chen Changsheng said, “These mountains… they do not seem to be formed by Heaven and Earth itself.”
Su Junhan nodded. “Indeed, it wasn’t here originally. It was created long ago through Divine Ability and Daoist Arts, intended to separate the worlds of humans and creatures of the Yao Race. The land beyond this mountain remains the only refuge for our kind.”
The mountain range seemed to split the entire Mortal World in two. Stretching for thousands of miles, it coiled across the land like a massive dragon’s spine.
Chen Changsheng paused, stunned. “To carve a mountain range from Heaven and Earth using Divine Ability… what level of mastery would that require?”
Su Junhan glanced at Mr. Chen, his expression complicated, as if debating his next words.
After a moment of thought, he decided to speak.
Su Junhan sighed. “It seems Mr. Chen has truly forgotten a great many things.”
Chen Changsheng turned to him. “What do you mean?”
Su Junhan hesitated before saying, “Mr. Chen, follow me.”
The man and the creature descended through the clouds.
Upon the snow-covered peaks, snowflakes fell continuously. Melted snow from the mountains flowed down into the Mortal World below.
These mountains had stood for a thousand years.
Su Junhan led them to the very apex of the range.
Looking around, all was blanketed in pure white.
Su Junhan stepped forward, then suddenly paused.
Chen Changsheng looked ahead. A mound of snow stood there, seemingly covering something beneath.
Su Junhan waved his sleeve. A great wind rose and swept across the mountain peak.
The accumulated snow scattered and blew away.
And what had lain beneath was finally revealed.
A stone monument.
Chen Changsheng walked forward and approached it.
On its front was carved three words: [MOUNTAIN OF TWO WORLDS].
Walking around it, Chen Changsheng found smaller inscriptions on its side:
All things possess spirit. Humans and Immortals have their fortune. Mankind dreads the Yao Race, believing them evil; Immortals despise them, slaying Yao as righteous duty. Yet the world holds no absolutes; even the Yao Race know good and evil. This is unjust.
I erect this Mountain of Two Worlds, dividing the realms, splitting the Mortal World. Land south shall be the Mortal World. Land north shall be the Mountain Range of the Hundred Demons. This act seeks no Merit, judges not good nor evil. It seeks only peace for my heart.
Chen Changsheng reached out. His fingertips brushed over the carved characters.
The moment he touched them, the entire mountain range trembled violently.
Chen Changsheng started. In an instant, this vast, thousand-mile stretch of peaks seemed to rise vividly within his mind.
BOOM!
Snow that had lain for years began melting. The falling snowflakes overhead abruptly froze mid-descent.
It felt as if the entire mountain was coming alive.
Realization dawned on Chen Changsheng as he withdrew his hand.
The snow above resumed its fall. The melting ridges gradually settled back into stillness.
It seemed as if nothing had happened.
But when Chen Changsheng lifted his gaze, he noticed a small sprout pushing up beside the monument. In the blink of an eye, it grew into a sapling.
Pfft.
Vegetal Essence gathered upon the little tree. It shot up several feet, sprouting branches and then a single flower… followed by another… and another—until blossoming into plum flowers.
The entire mountain seemed to be trying to please Mr. Chen.
Chen Changsheng stood astonished before the plum tree, its branches heavy with delicate blossom. He stared, unable to move for what felt like an age.
The sweet fragrance of plum flowers filled his nose, stirring him from his daze.
He turned to Su Junhan and asked, “Did I truly perform such a heaven-shaking feat?”
Su Junhan offered a gentle smile. He countered, “Mr. Chen, do you believe anyone else could have?”
Hearing this, Chen Changsheng fell silent.
He looked again at the monument, then back to the blossoming tree.
“This act seeks no Merit, judges not good nor evil. It seeks only peace for my heart.”
It indeed mirrored the thoughts deep within him.
Su Junhan continued: “Of all affections in this world, one-tenth lies with the heavens. Eight-tenths lie with Mr. Chen. Only… Mr. Chen has forgotten them.”
Chen Changsheng absorbed this. Suddenly, he gave a self-mocking laugh. “Having traveled so far… at last, something I can know about myself now.”
Su Junhan said, “I am different from others, Mr. Chen. Perhaps… you might learn many things from me.”
Chen Changsheng’s gaze lingered on Su Junhan. It seemed this journey promised far more significant revelations than he had expected.
