Chapter 138: Prison Term of Three Hundred and Fifty Years
Confirmed. This guy was actually in the Disaster Management Bureau’s D7.
And on top of that, the very first time he teamed up with D7 members for a mission, he encountered him?
Han Su first felt a hint of relief in his heart, followed immediately by a wave of helpless exasperation:
How are these guys even surviving?
Oddly enough, Han Su felt a bit like a father. Whether it was Wei Lan or Bowl-Cut Boy, these were all people he had painstakingly brought out of the Ancient Castle. He didn’t expect them to become famous or anything, but at least contribute something to society?
One became a celebrity only to turn into a mercenary, chasing ancient coins and chaos wherever it could be found.
Another went as far as live-streaming murders on camera, and now he had actually become a member of D7...
"They actually sent these guys over..."
The squad captain beside him frowned slightly, as if feeling a bit of pressure, but still stepped forward to complete the handover.
Han Su noticed the change in the captain's expression and quietly asked the chubby one next to him, "Is something wrong?"
The chubby one, standing near his captain, wore a serious face. Seeing Han Su ask privately, and since they were acquaintances, he explained in a low voice:
"There are many members in D7, some of whom are so capable they can participate in A-Level missions. This is just a B+ level mission, risky, yes, but manageable. Never thought they’d send *them* over."
"Jackal, Sawtooth, Iron Hook, and the Ripper."
"...These are all infamous monsters within the Bureau."
"..."
"Oh?"
Han Su glanced at the D7 members and said, "They’re still executioners. How bad can they be?"
"Jackal was an underground enforcer before his imprisonment, a double-flowered red pole. He committed multiple family massacres. That flying corpse case on Erli Street? That was him."
The chubby one lowered his voice, looking at the tattooed guy: "He didn’t even spare children."
"Iron Hook and Sawtooth are brothers. They’re the most notorious criminals in Qinggang in recent years, targeting only young women. One liked to kill after rape, the other liked to rape after killing. They’re the kind who deserve ten executions each."
"And the last one..."
He paused slightly, then spat out two words: "Total pervert."
"How so?"
Han Su wasn’t interested in the others but was very curious about Bowl-Cut Boy, now codenamed the Ripper.
"You don’t even need to talk about his crimes—you probably recognized him."
The chubby one shook his head slightly, "He once murdered someone live on camera, gutting them and grinning at the lens. Every media outlet and citizen in Qinggang demanded his execution."
"Later, he got lucky, quietly transferred to the Disaster Management Bureau. But even after surviving, he never kept quiet."
"D7 members are hard to deal with. He’s the worst of them."
"..."
Han Su grew even more curious.
"You know D7 members don’t receive payment for their missions, right?"
The chubby one explained: "After completing a task, they get two options—indulgence or sentence reduction. Food, booze, cigarettes, movies, books—everything except women. The other option is reducing their sentence."
"Many of them have no hope of leaving alive, so they choose indulgence. But this guy? He *always* chooses sentence reduction."
"There was even a time someone got special approval to let him interact with a female death-row inmate. In D7, that would drive most crazy with desire. But this guy? Not interested. Still just wanted sentence reduction."
"..."
Han Su paused, then laughed, "Wanting to get out early—that’s not so strange."
The chubby one frowned at this and said, "Do you know what his sentence was when he first transferred to the Bureau?"
Han Su raised an eyebrow. The chubby one answered, "Seventy years!"
"Death-row inmates are officially declared executed but secretly transferred into D7. Their crimes don’t just disappear. There’s a formula to convert their punishment."
"For example, death sentence gets canceled upon joining the Bureau, but they’re given a default of thirty years."
"But death sentences vary—some are one-shot and done. Others deserve three shots and still owe blood."
"So most D7 inmates start at thirty years minimum, no upper limit."
"This guy? Started at seventy years."
"..."
Han Su mulled it over, "What about now?"
It had been years since Bowl-Cut Boy's crimes. If he was still alive, he must’ve gone on many missions, right?
If he chose sentence reduction every time, theoretically, he could already be free.
The chubby one said, "Three hundred and fifty years!"
"?"
"How is it still going up?!"
"Because even though he chooses sentence reduction, he keeps getting into fights in prison—with notorious inmates, especially rapists and pedophiles."
"Since he was locked up, he’s gutted at least seven high-risk inmates in D7. The last four happened *after* he was placed in solitary confinement. Still found a way to kill them."
"That’s how he earned the codename ‘Ripper.’"
"Because of that, all the time he shaved off got added back, plus more. He’s worse off than before."
The chubby one now looked deeply wary: "This kind of person—you just can’t understand them."
Han Su could only nod. Even though this guy was part of the first group he had saved, he also found him completely unfathomable.
He had chosen him for the first wave because he executed missions flawlessly.
"Once the mission starts, relay all instructions to me. I’ll be the one to issue them."
At this point, the squad captain who had gone to receive the D7 group returned. The chubby one immediately went silent. The captain, face serious, whispered to Han Su: "Avoid contact with them as much as possible."
Han Su was momentarily surprised and smiled, "They pose a threat to investigators too?"
The squad captain hesitated. The chubby one reminded him, "Captain, this investigator is new."
Han Su gave an apologetic smile, "Yes, my promotion was too fast. I’m still catching up on the basics."
The captain was already stunned: ‘Is that even humanly possible?’
Only the doctor beside them showed deep admiration—this is what it means to have connections and background. That’s why he agreed to be Han Su’s assistant. The security feels unparalleled.
The squad captain sighed about the Bureau’s promotion system and whispered, "All D7s have strange quirks, and their spiritual activity is extremely high."
"Especially those who survive multiple missions—they’re all lunatics. No one knows what they’ll do, so be very careful."
‘Spiritual activity high?’
Han Su noted it and said, "Let’s proceed with the mission."
Strangely, the squad captain’s warning echoed Miss Ai’s last reminder to him. This coincidence piqued Han Su’s interest in the task even more.
He picked up his suitcase and walked into the sealed area. Hei Hu followed closely behind.
The doctor remained outside, ready to provide external intel support.
The D7s had their handcuffs removed by the escorting armed personnel, and were handed daggers, special gloves, and other equipment. Only the Ripper still had his handcuffs and leg irons on, walking lazily as if heading to his death.
Han Su led the way, and the D7s behind him lifted their heads to look at him.
Jackal, Sawtooth, and Iron Hook exchanged subtle glances while twirling their knives with playful expressions.
Trailing behind them, Bowl-Cut Boy merely yawned lazily, seemingly uninterested in it all.
...
...
As the group moved deeper into the sealed area, they found it deserted. The stench was quickly fading.
The smell had transformed into a lingering but non-obstructive odor, enough to deter casual entry but not hinder staff. Clearly, the Bureau had mastered the art of sewage explosion cleanup.
They didn’t speak, quietly advancing until they reached the heart of the sealed zone, where the crowd had long been evacuated.
Ahead stood a *Haifang Workshop*, filled with seashells and rotting seafood bones. It was a small artisan factory for marine crafts.
Though all was silent now, in front of the factory, a dozen figures sat or stood, frozen in various poses and expressions like statues, surrounding the place.
These were already infected Double-Bodies. When surrounded by normal people in society, they’d behave as their hosts, interacting normally.
But now, with no outsiders and society stripped away, they didn’t interact at all. It was like they’d been powered down.
"The manager’s office is inside!"
Hei Hu told Han Su, "We confirmed the source of the infiltration right there."
"That line was drawn by the guy with glasses."
Following Hei Hu’s finger, Han Su saw a straight spray-painted line on the ground. Hei Hu continued, "Glasses had me test it—cross that line, and those people attack."
Han Su nodded and paused in front of the line. Then, through his earpiece, he said, "It’s time."
"Received!"
The captain on the other end responded immediately.
In the next second, whatever command he issued triggered the four D7 members to start stretching their limbs.
Their previously numb expressions now showed traces of excitement.
Ignoring the safety line, ignoring the stiff crowd around the factory, they walked forward slowly, then—Bowl-Cut Boy included—raised their palms in unison:
『By My Command, Appear in the Light!』
