Chapter 539: Chapter 539 I Killed His Daughter!_1
While Xu Lai and Ruan Tang were being all lovey-dovey, Qian Xiao was in the kindergarten, sobbing as he followed Xu Yiyi to their classroom.
Yiyi stopped, her twin ponytails swishing from side to side. She puffed up her cheeks and said, "Hey, big boys shouldn’t cry."
"Mhm..." Qian Xiao sniffled and nodded. He really wanted to stop crying, but seeing Yiyi again after so long made him too happy to hold back his tears.
Yiyi said sweetly, "If you keep crying, I’m going to leave."
SWOOSH—
Qian Xiao instantly stopped crying.
Yiyi breathed a sigh of relief. "Look at you, crying like that. It’s so embarrassing."
This time, Qian Xiao didn’t cry. He just stared at his boss and began to giggle foolishly.
...
Yiyi’s face took on an expression that said,
I think I’ve met an idiot,
and she quickened her pace.
Qian Xiao followed with quick, small steps, repeatedly asking, "Yiyi, how have you been these past few days?"
"Mhm."
"Eating well?"
"Mhm."
"You didn’t run into any bad people, did you?"
"Mhm."
"Did you miss me?"
After asking, Qian Xiao looked at her expectantly.
Xu Yiyi glanced at him from the corner of her eye before looking away again. Her small, pale hand unconsciously gripped the strap of her schoolbag as she whispered, "No."
"That’s right!" Far from being upset, Qian Xiao clapped his hands matter-of-factly. "If the Boss had missed me, she wouldn’t be the Boss."
Yiyi suddenly didn’t want to talk anymore.
This kid is definitely an idiot. If only Beibei were here... sigh... Beibei, I miss you.
"By the way, Yiyi, do you remember when we went to the Youth Martial Artist Competition last time?" Qian Xiao asked mysteriously.
"Hmph." Yiyi huffed in response.
During the last Youth Martial Artist Competition, she, Yun Jin, and Qian Xiao had participated for the grand prize of two hundred thousand. They ended up in a conflict with the young prodigies from the One Faction, Three Sects, and Nine Pavilions.
Of course, all those prodigies who had boasted about making Xu Yiyi and her friends kneel ended up kneeling themselves, utterly losing face.
Qian Xiao said with a silly look, "A couple of days ago, the Martial Dao Association sent me an invitation for us to participate in a secret realm trial."
"Oh. Not going." Yiyi’s twin ponytails bounced. It was a hairstyle Ruan Tang had specially done for her daughter.
"Those fools from last time will be there too," Qian Xiao muttered. "I was thinking I could teach them another lesson, so I already agreed. But if the Boss isn’t going..."
"They’ll be there?" Yiyi’s big eyes blinked. She pondered for a long moment before replying, "Then let’s go check it out. By the way, what secret realm are we going to?"
"I don’t know." Qian Xiao shook his head blankly. "The Martial Dao Association didn’t say."
"Do your parents know?" Xu Yiyi asked.
"No." Qian Xiao shook his head and said cautiously, "But I’ll just tell them I’m going to your house to play. They won’t say no to that."
"When?"
"Tonight," Qian Xiao said.
Xu Yiyi thought for a moment. Tomorrow was Saturday, so sneaking out tonight shouldn’t be a problem as long as she got back early.
She said with a hint of regret, "It’s a shame Yun Jin isn’t here."
"Yeah." Qian Xiao was also a little disappointed. The invincible East Sea Trio was missing a member, which was a real shame.
...
...
Xu Lai left Above the White Clouds and returned to his job at the Dongli University medical office.
That day, he was unexpectedly busy. First, several students from the Go club came to seek his advice. Then, he received visits from elders like Li Shouzhong, who had been immersed in the medical arts for nearly a decade.
From morning to afternoon, Xu Lai lectured until his throat was parched, without even a single sip of water. If he hadn’t used the excuse of picking up his daughter to escape, the crowd probably would have talked all through the night.
"Daddy!" At the kindergarten entrance, Yiyi shouted happily as she threw herself into Xu Lai’s arms.
"Hey!" Xu Lai beamed with pleasure, feeling all his fatigue vanish as he handed out two cloud-spun candies he had prepared. One for Yiyi, and one for Qian Xiao.
Xu Lai glanced sideways at Qian Xiao, who, for once, wasn’t getting all sentimental and teary-eyed over the candy. "Doesn’t the candy taste like first love anymore?"
"Uncle Xu, I will definitely be filial to you in the future," Qian Xiao suddenly blurted out. "You’re too good to me! This cloud-spun candy is so delicious!"
Xu Lai was taken aback. He gave the boy a strange look. "What’s gotten into you today, kid? Tell me, how exactly do you plan to be filial to me?"
"Sister Beibei said there are many ways to show filial piety in the Sea Clan, but one method is considered the greatest of all," Qian Xiao said earnestly.
Xu Lai’s face darkened. "It’s gilding my tombstone, isn’t it? You little brat, believe it or not, I’ll beat you to death."
Qian Xiao made a face at Xu Lai and then took off running.
From the distance, his incredibly cheeky voice called out, "Yiyi, don’t forget our promise!"
"Promise?" Xu Lai raised an eyebrow.
Ruan Tang, in the passenger seat, chuckled. "Kids have so much energy. Honey, sweetie, let’s go home."
By the time Xu Lai drove back to Haitang Court, the rooftop of a hotel in East Sea City was already filled with a murderous aura.
On the hotel rooftop, fifty meters above the ground, twelve youths sat cross-legged. The oldest was fourteen-year-old Deng Shu from the Penglai Sword Pavilion, and the youngest was only ten.
They were part of the top twenty-three from the last Youth Martial Artist Competition. They all had one thing in common: they came from the One Faction, Three Sects, and Nine Pavilions. They called themselves the orthodox cultivators and considered themselves more honorable than mere Martial Artists.
The Youth Martial Artist Competition had ended on a sour note because of their conflict with Xu Yiyi and her friends. The Martial Dao Association, after much consideration, decided to take them to explore a secret realm.
Firstly, it would be a form of training. After all, these twenty-three youths were considered the future pillars of Hua Country. The association intended to expose them to bloodshed to temper their character. Secondly, they hoped this would be an opportunity to ease the tension between the youths.
However, Gao He, the President of the East Sea City Martial Dao Association, had miscalculated. He never anticipated that this group of proud young prodigies was still simmering with rage. Therefore, they were already waiting at the location a full four hours before the agreed-upon time.
"Senior Brother Deng, has Senior Rong Sanyue still not been found?" asked Bai Yuan of the Dao Sect.
Rong Sanyue was Deng Shu’s Master. At only thirty years old, she was a Divine Gate Realm expert and a Supreme Elder of the Penglai Sword Pavilion, but she had suddenly vanished months ago.
The Penglai Sword Pavilion was the head of the Nine Pavilions. Among the thirteen Cultivation Holy Lands, it ranked in the top three in both public strength and deep-seated power. The disappearance of a Supreme Elder from such a holy land was a major event that had shaken the entire Cultivation World.
"No." Deng Shu clenched his fists and said coldly, "My Master disappeared after going to the East Sea to seek justice for me. I suspect Xu Yiyi’s father killed her."
"Xu Lai?" someone in the group gasped.
After the last conflict, they were taken back to their respective Sects, which explicitly forbade any further discussion of the matter. It was as if Xu Lai had an immense background, so powerful that even these deeply rooted Holy Lands didn’t dare to provoke him.
Only Rong Sanyue had dared to go to Jiangnan alone, sword in hand, only to meet an unknown fate.
"I’ve received news that Xu Yiyi will be at this secret realm trial," Deng Shu said, enunciating each word. "Xu Lai killed my Master, so I will kill his daughter!"
