Invincible Dad-Chapter 541: My Name Isn’t Hey_1
Chapter 541: Chapter 541: My Name Isn’t Hey_1
Anxiety showed on Dongfang Duoduo’s face.
She was a late Sixth Grade Martial Artist with a grandfather in the Divine Gate Realm; naturally, she knew the power of a Seventh Grade practitioner from the Sword Sect would completely overwhelm her.
The moment the words "Be careful!" left her mouth, Dongfang Duoduo rushed forward, trying to push the two seemingly weak figures out of harm’s way.
Xu Wandao, a descendant of the Blade Sect’s Xu Yanyang, was initially startled. But when he got a clear look at the two figures, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
That’s Senior Xu’s daughter and great-nephew...
Recalling their performance on the sparring grounds a few months ago, he didn’t take the threat too seriously.
As expected.
Xu Yiyi didn’t even make a move. The slightly slower-to-react Qian Xiao simply used his body to shield his boss.
SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
The countless thin swords formed from rain clinked and clattered as they landed on him.
"It’s Qian Xiao!"
"He mocked us so much last time. It’d serve him right if he died here."
A prodigy from one of the Three Sects and Nine Pavilions exclaimed in surprise. As they drew closer, they could all clearly see who it was.
Aside from the Dao Sect’s disciple, Bai Yuan, not a single one of them showed a trace of pity. Many even spoke with venom.
Deng Shu’s gaze pierced through Qian Xiao to fixate on Xu Yiyi, who was being protected behind him. His eyes blazed like torches in the dark night.
Although this move didn’t use much Spiritual Energy, Deng Shu was still confident he could kill Qian Xiao. Even Xu Yiyi might die a horrible death under his sword.
Because he was a Seventh Grade practitioner from the Sword Sect!
But then, the unexpected happened.
The tiny water swords, which could easily slice through steel, all bent or shattered upon striking Qian Xiao.
"Who is it? Who’s shooting me with a water gun?" Qian Xiao glared around. "You got my clothes all wet!"
"..."
The area fell silent.
The young prodigies, in particular, were dumbfounded. A strike from a Seventh Grade Sword Sect practitioner had no effect whatsoever on a five- or six-year-old child?
"Senior Brother Deng, did you go easy on him?" a disciple from the affiliated sects and pavilions asked hesitantly.
"Of course he did!"
"Senior Brother Deng is a leader of our generation. He reached the Seventh Grade at fourteen and can even contend with the older experts. He wouldn’t deign to fight mere children."
The other prodigies nodded in agreement.
An awkward expression crossed Deng Shu’s face. With his hands clasped behind his back, he said stiffly, "That’s right. There’s no fun in bullying children. I deliberately held back."
Dongfang Duoduo scratched her head. She doubted Deng Shu was that kind-hearted.
Though puzzled, she still approached the two. "Hey, are you two alright?"
"My name’s not ’Hey’," Qian Xiao huffed. "I’m Qian Xiao, the number one enforcer for Xu Yiyi, the top boss of East Sea’s Galaxy Kindergarten!"
"..."
Even though they were just kindergarteners, Dongfang Duoduo didn’t dare underestimate Qian Xiao and Xu Yiyi.
During the previous competition, both Xu Yiyi’s Spiritual Qi Phoenix and Qian Xiao’s outrageous physical toughness had left a deep impression on her.
"My name is Dongfang Duoduo, from the Great Northeast of our motherland."
"I’m Yu Xun, from the Northwest."
"I’m from the South Sea. My name is Wang Qian."
"..."
The seven Loose Cultivators took the initiative to show their goodwill toward Xu Yiyi and Qian Xiao. Last time, everyone had scattered without a proper chance to get acquainted, so this was their chance to make up for it.
Qian Xiao and Xu Yiyi also introduced themselves.
Meanwhile, Deng Shu and the other Sect Gate disciples merely sneered, and not one of them came forward to talk.
Bai Yuan hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but was holding back. After a moment, she finally spoke up. "I am Bai Yuan, a disciple of the Dao Sect. Qian Xiao, I still remember you provoking me last time. After this mystic realm trial is over, I want a fair fight with you!"
"Did I? I’d completely forgotten," Qian Xiao said, looking startled. Then, a battle-hungry light flared in his eyes. "A fair fight is fine, of course. But let me ask you first, what grade are you in?"
"..."
Bai Yuan didn’t feel like talking anymore.
She had been cultivating quietly at the Dao Sect since she was a child. The elders there had taught her both worldly knowledge and the principles of proper conduct. She had never experienced a secular education, but hearing the words "what grade are you in" from a kindergartener’s mouth was undeniably provocative!
So, Xu Die never showed up after all...
Xu Wandao’s gaze flickered as he scanned the surroundings, and he let out a sigh.
Of the top twenty-three from the Youth Martial Arts Tournament, only Xu Die and her childhood friend were absent. Xu Wandao had been very fond of the girl with the unique Sword Intent. He had even wanted to take her as his disciple for devoted training, even though he himself was a blade practitioner.
"Everyone’s here. Let’s go," Xu Wandao announced.
He waved his hand, crushing a blood-red Jade Slip. A curtain of light for teleportation appeared at his feet.
Deng Shu shot a cold glance at Qian Xiao, Xu Yiyi, and Dongfang Duoduo. He then made a throat-slitting gesture and leaped into the curtain of light.
The young men and women entered one by one.
Xu Wandao waited for another half an hour. After confirming that Xu Die truly wasn’t coming, he departed, feeling a little dejected.
What the descendant of the Blade Sect didn’t know was that there was someone else in the sky above.
It was Xu Lai.
At that moment, the crease in Xu Lai’s brow smoothed out. No wonder Yiyi had said she wanted to sleep right after dinner when it wasn’t even eight o’clock. She had secretly snuck out to join Qian Xiao for some mystic realm trial.
He didn’t follow them the whole way, instead dispatching a strand of his Divine Sense to protect Yiyi.
Xu Lai returned to Haitang Court.
On the sofa, Ruan Lan looked at Xu Lai with schadenfreude. "Brother-in-law, where did you sneak off to just now? My sister couldn’t find you, and she was a little angry."
"Just went out for a stroll," Xu Lai said, unconcerned. "I’ll just explain it to her."
"Let’s just hope that explanation works."
"What exactly happened?" Xu Lai asked, looking at his sister-in-law with puzzlement as he sensed the hidden meaning in her words.
"Hehe, brother-in-law, your ex-girlfriend called the house wanting to see you. My sister answered."
Xu Lai’s expression stiffened. "Which one?"
"..."
Ruan Lan glared at him. "You huge Casanova! Tell me, just how many ex-girlfriends do you have!"
Xu Lai coughed. "That’s not important. What did my sister say to her?"
"I don’t like to eavesdrop, so how would I know? But my sister isn’t in a very good mood. She’s in the backyard, soaking in the bath."
After saying her piece, Ruan Lan ignored Xu Lai and returned her focus to the chessboard Formation.
She had made up her mind. She would create a Formation even more powerful than the Starlight Array and the Zhoutian Star Fighting Formation. Then she would shove it right in her smug brother-in-law’s face! Who was he to have mocked her before?
***
Dark clouds gathered in the sky, blanketing all of Mount Haitang. A fine drizzle began to fall, but Ruan Tang remained in the Spiritual Energy hot spring. She gazed blankly at the lights of the city spread out below, visible through the curtain of rain.
Xu Lai got into the water as well.
He came to her side and said casually, "Honey, I just went out for a little stroll."
"Did you go see Anna?"
"Absolutely not." Xu Lai shook his head repeatedly, though he felt a faint sense of helplessness.
So, it was Anna who came.
Ruan Tang wasn’t as angry as Ruan Lan had made her out to be. She spoke gently, "You should go see her. She said she has a gift for you."
"I don’t need one. You’re my only gift, honey," Xu Lai leaned close to his wife’s ear and whispered suggestively. "It’s a beautiful night... shall we have a little ’meeting’?"
As he spoke, his misbehaving hands wrapped around Ruan Tang’s slender waist.
"Stop it," Ruan Tang scoffed lightly, glancing toward the living room. "My sister is still here."
"Then I’ll just have to draw a little turtle."
"..."
