Invincible Dad-Chapter 543 543 Faceless Spider_1

Xu Wandao couldn't help but smile upon hearing the two children's conversation. In truth, the dangers on Gudu Island had already been mostly eliminated by the Martial Dao Association. The higher-Boundary Demonic Beasts were either imprisoned or slain. The ones currently on the island were not much stronger than these young prodigies; otherwise, they would never have been allowed to come here for a trial. After all, the death of any one of them would be a colossal loss for the future of Hua Country's Martial Dao. This trial was not only a way to indirectly gift them treasures like the Wondrous Poison Herb but also an opportunity to let them see real bloodshed.
"What you will face in the future won't be just these non-sentient Demonic Beasts, but the Moon Clan, who are hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands of times stronger," Xu Wandao sighed softly. "And perhaps… life forms from other stars."
There is Chang'an City above the moon, a gateway protecting Earth, but what about the other stars? Earth is small, but the Universe is vast—truly infinite. Who knows what perils await our world in the future?
Xu Wandao sat cross-legged in the sky, his Divine Sense spreading over the entire island. His sole task was to protect these twenty-one "blossoms of the motherland." The island was vast, however. Even as a Ninth Grade Martial Ancestor, his Divine Sense wasn't powerful enough to watch over everyone at once, which was why the precautionary, life-saving Jade Slips had been provided.
But what no one saw were the countless pairs of multicolored eyes in the misty sea, watching Gudu Island with a cold, unrelenting gaze.

"WAAAH!"
Qian Xiao's shriek echoed through the island as he trembled behind Xu Yiyi. "Big Sister, th-that's a terrifyingly huge spider!"
Xu Yiyi's pretty face had also gone pale, but it was out of exasperation with Qian Xiao, not fear of the spider. "If you keep freaking out like this, you can walk on your own," she huffed, pouting angrily.
They hadn't been in the jungle for long, but they had already encountered numerous venomous creatures, prompting Qian Xiao to scream constantly and beg to leave.
"Big Sister, don't leave me behind!" Qian Xiao's eyes welled with tears. "This place is so scary! Aah, it's coming! It's coming!"
The giant spider, which had been weaving a web between two trees, shot toward them like a streak of light. As it drew near, Qian Xiao saw that the venomous creature had the face of a human child, fixed in an eerie, semi-smiling expression. The sight nearly scared him to death.
Though panicked, Xu Yiyi steeled herself, channeling her Spiritual Energy to slam a pillar of fire down from above.
BOOM!
The giant spider was instantly annihilated, turning to ash with one final, piercing shriek. This prompted Yiyi to unleash another seven or eight pillars of fire, blasting a hundred-foot-deep crater into the ground.
"Who was that? Such power..."
At different locations across the island, the other young prodigies saw the thousand-foot pillar of fire that lit up the sky, and they were all left dumbfounded. The terrifying pressure from that column of flame was so intense it made their hearts tremble. It was comparable to a Seventh Grade Martial Artist… no, it was probably on par with an Eighth Grade Human Martial Artist!
"Could it be that little girl, Xu Yiyi?" Dongfang Duoduo frowned slightly. She had only felt such terrifying pressure once before, several months ago. But that time, it wasn't this fire Divine Skill, but a massive Spiritual Qi Phoenix.
"Sister Duoduo, this place is too eerie and frightening," a young girl complained, even as she mercilessly slew dozens of venomous snakes that tried to approach. Blood quickly splattered all over her. Half an hour ago, the fastidious girl would have wiped the blood from her face, but she was so numb now that she couldn't be bothered. It would never be completely clean anyway. Even if she wiped it away, she would just be splattered again moments later, so she simply ignored it.
"There's no other way," Dongfang Duoduo sighed. "The Wondrous Poison Herb only blooms at night and retreats into the soil during the day, which is why the trial is held after dark. Look, there's another one."
Her eyes were sharp, locking onto a small plant ten meters away that glowed with a multitude of colors. It was about the size of an adult's palm and stood out starkly in the dark, oppressive rain.
"Sweet!" a young man exclaimed, rushing forward to pick it, his face beaming with joy. They had been on the island for less than half an hour and had already collected three Wondrous Poison Herbs, each one priceless.
"Sister Duoduo, Elder Dongfang is a true role model for our generation. He actually managed to kill the Gu King here," one of the young men marveled. "I heard that Gu King's strength was comparable to a Demon King's."
"Nonsense," someone else immediately retorted. "A Demon King, whether a land or Sea Demon, is in the Demon King Realm, which is a cut above our Human Race's Divine Gate Realm. Don't forget, fifty years ago, Elder Dongfang had only just stepped into the Divine Gate."
Dongfang Duoduo ignored the fawning and doubts of her temporary teammates, her expression clouded with worry. "My grandfather said there's something strange about this place that makes him uneasy. We need to stick close together and not get separated."
"Right, the seven of us have to stay sa—huh?" one of the prodigies began, before his expression changed dramatically. "Why is there an eighth person in our group?!"
"It's me," a sweet voice said. A familiar face appeared—it was Xu Yiyi.
The young prodigy heaved a sigh of relief. "I remember you. You're Xu Yiyi. You scared me to death."
Xu Yiyi smiled radiantly. "I'd like to travel with you all, if that's okay."
"Of course!" As fellow Loose Cultivators without backing from a powerful sect, they felt a natural kinship with Xu Yiyi and Qian Xiao, unlike the arrogant disciples from the major sects and the Nine Pavilions. They welcomed her warmly; in such a dangerous place, an extra person meant extra security. Besides, they had all witnessed her strength with their own eyes.
Dongfang Duoduo, however, felt a growing sense of unease. She frowned. "Where's your companion?"
"We got separated," Xu Yiyi said, moving closer to the group.
The sense of foreboding in Dongfang Duoduo's heart intensified until she could no longer ignore it. She bellowed, "She's not Xu Yiyi! Kill her!"
Before her voice had even faded, Dongfang Duoduo drew a massive battle-ax and swung it in a fierce horizontal slash. Xu Yiyi didn't dodge or evade. The giant axe slammed into her body with a deafening SKREEE! Her seemingly delicate frame was as hard as diamond!
"Oopsie," the fake Xu Yiyi said with a smile. "You found me out."
Her face rippled and changed, revealing her true form: a spider. Bizarrely, its body was shaped like a human's, complete with four limbs. The only difference was the complete lack of facial features.
"It's a Faceless Spider!" Dongfang Duoduo's expression shifted. "It has no combat power of its own, but it can replicate fifty percent of the power of whomever it imitates." She then breathed a sigh of relief. "Fifty percent of Yiyi's power shouldn't be that terrifying. If we work together, we can kill it! Its inner core is a treasure!"
"Is that right?" The Faceless Spider's blank face twisted back into Xu Yiyi's features. It gestured with one hand, and a massive Spiritual Qi Phoenix began to form in the sky.
An aura so powerful it would make even Xu Wandao's expression change spread out across the island. "The pressure of a peak Ninth Grade Martial Ancestor? Who is that?!"
