Chapter 256: ’...For a memorable night...’
Sky processed this. "So Cory is surrounded by people who are weirdly obsessed with him and he doesn’t even realize it."
"Maybe he does realize it with Kai. I don’t think it was a ’romance or sexual’ kind of obsession, if you know what I mean. Until now, I don’t even understand what that was. Maybe Cory doesn’t either. That’s probably why he never talks about him." Chris ran a hand through his hair. "But Vale? I don’t think Cory has any idea. He just sees his younger brother who’s had it rough and needs him."
Sky thought about Vale’s words tonight.
"We need to tell him. I spoke with Vale tonight and it was not funny." Sky said.
"Tell him what? That his younger brother might have feelings for him?" Chris looked conflicted. "Based on what? Your conversation with a drunk seventeen-year-old at a party? I heard you tried to stop him from drinking." Chris paused. "Look, Cory would think we are crazy. Or worse, he’d think we are trying to cause problems."
"But Vale said—"
"I know. And I believe you. But think about it from Cory’s perspective. Vale is his little brother. Someone he’s protected and cared for since Vale was adopted into the family. If we tell him Vale has those kind of feelings without concrete proof, without Vale actually doing anything..." Chris shook his head. "It would destroy their relationship. And if we’re wrong—"
"We’re not wrong," Sky said firmly. "You should have seen him, Chris. The way he talked about Cory. The certainty. The planning. He’s been obsessed for years."
Chris was quiet for a long moment. "I believe you. I do. But we need to be smart about this. We can’t just drop a bomb like that on Cory without... I don’t know. Evidence? A plan?"
Sky slumped back against the headboard, suddenly exhausted. "So we just watch it happen?"
Why he was so concerned about this, he’d lie and said he didn’t know. But the truth was, he knew.
Vale was worse than him. And he was scared of even himself at times. He didn’t want any harm against Chris’s cousin. Especially the one who helped him ’reunite’ with Chris here.
"No. We stay alert. And if Vale makes a move, if he does anything concrete, then we snoop in like superheros." Chris squeezed Sky’s hand. "But right now, all we have is a conversation at a party and our thoughts from observation. That’s not enough."
Sky knew Chris was right. But it felt wrong. Felt like they were leaving Cory vulnerable.
Chris brought his hand to Sky’s neck and rubbed. "Don’t think about it too much. I’ll keep an eye out for him. And I’ll also chat with Cory before we head back to school."
"You will?" Sky asked quietly.
He sounded adorable. Like he was really worried. It was rare to see him like this. Maybe it was the drinks?
Chris nodded. "Promise. I’ll also try to be closer. I mean, aside from being annoying with his preppiness, he isn’t that bad."
"Just likes to attract bad boys," Sky joked.
"Unfortunately." Chris chuckled and dropped his hand from Sky’s neck."He’ll be fine."
Sky nodded. "If he survives Vale, and Kai never comes back."
Chris nodded again. "He will survive Vale and Kai will never return."
He didn’t want to imagine the two being in the same environment as Cory. That would be a disaster.
They sat in silence for a moment, the weight of it all pressing down.
Sky was the first to notice the gift bag with a note attached beside the pillow, close to the bedside drawer. Just beside it was a fancy stoll with a bottle of already opened wine and two glasses.
Chris followed his gaze and stood up to retrieve it.
Chris picked up the note first, reading it aloud: "For a memorable night. Use responsibly. —W" His face went through several emotions in rapid succession: confusion, realization, horror, and finally something that might have been amusement. He turned the bag over on the bed and the items toppled out.
Sky’s eyes widened when he realized what they were.
Condoms. A whole roll. Wipes and something that looked suspiciously like lube.
"Wilson," Chris said flatly, his face burning red.
Sky felt his own face catch fire. "He didn’t—"
"He absolutely did." Chris just stood there, frozen.
"Is he... expecting us to have an orgy?" Sky asked, horrified, staring at the sheer quantity.
"I think he’s just being thorough." Chris was trying not to laugh now, his shoulders shaking. "Very, very thorough."
They both stared at the items like they might explode. Then Chris started laughing.
Sky couldn’t help but join in. Chris’s laughter was infectious and they were both tipsy and exhausted and everything felt surreal.
"How are you friends with him?" Sky asked between laughs.
Chris wiped his eyes, still grinning. "Honestly? I ask myself that daily."
The laughter gradually subsided, leaving them in charged silence. They were very aware of the items on the bed. Of what Wilson clearly expected to happen.
"We don’t have to use those," Chris said quickly. "Obviously. I mean, unless—" He stopped, face reddening. "I mean—"
"I know what you mean," Sky said quickly, his own face burning.
But even as he said it, something shifted in the air between them. The laughter faded, replaced by something heavier, more charged. They were alone. In Chris’s bedroom. With a locked door. And everything they might need.
Sky stood up and approached.
At first, Chris thought he was approaching him. His breath caught. But Sky walked past him to the stool, poured himself a full glass of wine, and drank the whole thing at once.
When he set the glass down, he looked Chris right in the eyes and it was as if time slowed when he said, "I’ll shower first."
And then he was gone, disappearing into the attached bathroom.
Chris stood there, heart hammering, staring at the closed bathroom door.
’I’ll shower first.’
Not "I’m going to shower." Not "I need to clean up."
First.
The implication hung in the air.
Chris looked down at the items Wilson had left. Then at the bathroom door. Then back at the items.
His hands were shaking slightly as he imagined Sky in there. Showering first.
Tonight. It was happening tonight.
If they both wanted it.
And god, Chris wanted it.
He just hoped Sky wanted it too. That the wine and the intensity of the evening and everything with Vale hadn’t clouded Sky’s judgment. Wait... that couldn’t be. Because earlier, Sky had been lucid when he said he wanted to suck him off.
Yes!
Chris poured himself a glass of wine and downed it just as quickly as Sky had.
