Capítulo 1930: Chapter 1930: The Bombing Case
“So, we need to be careful.” Han Cong said again, “As long as we stick together and don’t venture into dangerous areas, we can get by just fine.”
Wang Kai probably didn’t like the idea of just “getting by,” but feeling powerless, he swallowed his words. He watched as Xu Huo turned and measured the uniform against himself and asked, “The Inspector’s uniform can resist ordinary sharp weapons. Many Inspectors who were killed didn’t have their uniforms on.”
Han Cong quickly picked up his own uniform and checked his pistol, “This laser gun also has shooting restrictions; can’t they equip Inspectors with something more powerful?”
“Probably afraid of theft,” Xu Huo replied, “I just arrived in the Western District and my luggage was stolen, and the place I rented yesterday was burglarized too.”
Han Cong and Wang Kai also rented a place yesterday, but since they weren’t familiar with each other, there was no need to exchange addresses.
The three were particularly concerned about the recent Inspector assault cases. After fruitless discussions, they started looking into other things, like the procedures for handling different cases after they them.
Victims of general robbery and theft cases typically don’t them proactively because the members of the Supervision Department are a mixed bag. In the eyes of ordinary people, they’re more difficult to deal with than petty thieves. Thus, the cases accumulated by the Supervision Department mostly come from The Black Forces Organization, which has already carved out its own turf. The forces in the Western District are complex, unable to control even street fights, let alone theft and robbery. So people with power and turf could also become victims. However, their main purpose for ing is likely bribing the Supervision Department and hitting their opponents. Regardless of what they lost, the Supervision Department can retrieve it and dispose of it as they see fit. If the Supervision Department wants to use these minor cases for something, they can.
That’s why such cases are basically impossible to close.
As for the murder case, Xu Huo already learned that if it can’t be solved within thirty hours, it’s directly shelved.
From a more detailed investigation process, unless the entire Supervision Department becomes active, it’s unlikely they could close a case even if a murderer is caught within thirty hours.
That’s why Xu Huo’s first task, though seemingly simple, is actually full of uncertainties.
But there’s a way. The best approach is to kill an important member of the Supervision Department, like a squad leader. This way, people who are loyal to him will naturally seek revenge. But to become a squad leader, one must be more cautious and stronger than regular members, always traveling with companions, even commuting home.
Their living places are even more guarded; they have access to defense weapons issued by the Supervision Department and live near the Shadow Wall, making it difficult to kill them indirectly.
The second task should be a broader one. It shouldn’t just be him assigned to this task.
Sure enough, before noon, the surveillance instruments ed a malignant murder incident. A restaurant on Xiaotai Street was blown to smithereens, killing or injuring over forty people inside and out, including one Player and three Inspectors. The surveillance instruments required the nearby division to cooperate immediately.
Xu Huo and the others quickly received a contact from Captain Jiang, instructing them to arm themselves and head to the scene, following the actions of the veteran members.
The entire Supervision Department division mobilized, with two seasoned Inspectors leading Xu Huo and the other two, instructing them on several precautions: not to reach for things they shouldn’t, not to touch bodies they shouldn’t, to listen and follow directions, and to observe and learn.
The three nodded repeatedly.
The flying vehicle arrived at Xiaotai Street, and the scene was more gruesome than they imagined. Not only was the restaurant blown up, but also an adjacent game center, a bathhouse, and several small shops were destroyed by the explosion and fire, completely razed. Especially the game center, which was right next to the restaurant, was almost full when the explosion occurred. Those who were immersed overnight in virtual reality games hadn’t logged off, totally unaware of the explosion, and thus lost their lives.
The virtual reality games require expensive equipment, not something an ordinary person can set up. This game center belonged to one of The Black Forces Organization, with all the equipment completely destroyed and a Player who was overseeing it also dead. The organization immediately sealed off Xiaotai Street, not allowing anyone in or out, cleaning up the scene themselves, and not allowing the Supervision Department to intervene.
As for the three dead Inspectors, their bodies were properly retrieved, but they were in such bad shape that their identities couldn’t be discerned by the naked eye. It was the assistance from the flying vehicle in verifying their identities that revealed the dead were Brother Hao, Brother Liao, and another Inspector Xu Huo had only met once.
With three Inspectors dead, and the Black Power Organization unable to find results on their own, they inevitably blamed the Supervision Department, believing it was their presence that led to the destruction of the game center, which got caught up in the explosion.
However, by this time, members of the Supervision Department had arrived in succession. Flying low and armed with high-lethality weapons, the flying vehicles swiftly converged, landing unevenly along the street sides. Inspectors in uniform leapt out one after another, taking control with their equipped guns.
The people of The Black Forces Organization were forcibly driven beyond the barricade. Xu Huo and the others gathered around Captain Jiang, trailing behind him to use instruments to investigate what caused the explosion.
The results came quickly: the cause of the explosion was likely a spatial prop, undoubtedly originating from a Player’s hand. But what was the purpose?
“Could it be the Resistance Army?” Wang Kai asked.
Captain Jiang glanced at him, “Do you think the Resistance Army’s goal is to kill three ordinary Inspectors?”
The Resistance Army primarily targets the People of the Eastern District and generally doesn’t deliberately harass the Supervision Department. Besides, Supervision Department members aren’t exactly righteous individuals. When they become Inspectors, they’re essentially sitting on the fence, ready to lean towards anyone.
“Maybe they were silenced.” Xu Huo suggested, “Brother Hao and Brother Liao were on break; what if they happened to see something when they went out to eat and got killed for it?”
“That’s possible too.” Captain Jiang pondered, “Anyway, that bunch is up to something somewhere every day.”
Clearly uninterested in the demise of his colleagues, he let out a sigh, ordered the bodies to be taken away, notified the families if they had any, and had them cremated if they didn’t.
This way of handling things was indeed astonishing. They didn’t even need to write detailed investigation and autopsy s, merely stating that three Inspectors died in the Xiaotai Street explosion. As for capturing the culprit and closing the case, where would they find the Player to capture? Since they couldn’t catch them, there’s no saying it could be closed, so they just left it.
At this moment, Li Song approached them, saying, “Two injured people ran off; we need to split up and search.”
