Chapter 35: Tension in the Mansion
"Quick!" Roger exclaimed. He pushed Malvin’s head down to make him lie on the bed.
"Ack!" His sudden movement made his younger brother shout in surprise.
"You’re really going to kill me, damn it!" Malvin cursed angrily.
"Ssshh! Quickly, close your eyes!" hissed Roger, pressing his palm over his brother’s face.
Malvin could barely breathe. He couldn’t act and kept cursing in his heart.
Lucas panicked and immediately threw the first aid kit under the bed, then quickly put on a pleading expression beside the bed.
Outside, Nathan and Nael walked awkwardly side by side. But Alexander made sure they came together to Malvin’s room to check on him after being discharged from the hospital.
"I hope he’s okay," Nael said before knocking on the door.
Meanwhile, Nathan stood a bit farther behind him. He felt uncomfortable, and guilt still haunted him. He truly prayed Malvin was safe and not seriously injured.
Louis opened the door for them. Nael immediately peeked inside. "Is Malvin okay?" he asked.
Louis shrugged with a sad expression, signaling that he didn’t know. This made Nathan’s heart pound even faster with worry.
"Come in," said Louis.
Nael and Nathan slowly walked into Malvin’s room.
Nathan looked around the room, which was filled with bright colors and lots of fresh plants. He saw a piano next to the balcony door. Did the man like music?
Because he was so focused on his surroundings, Nathan didn’t notice that Nael had stopped walking, causing him to bump into his twin.
"Ah, sorry!" he said quickly. His attention immediately shifted to his brothers already inside.
Malvin was lying on the bed with his eyes closed, his neck wrapped in overly dramatic bandages—Roger’s idea, thanks to him. He tried to control his breathing and keep his heartbeat calm.
Roger, who was basically an entertainer, took this chance to show off his acting skills.
"Malviiin, I didn’t think you would leave this soon," he cried dramatically.
Lucas, who knew they were just acting, was shocked. "He’s not dead, right?"
Roger wiped his perfectly dry eyes. "You heard the doctor, right? If he doesn’t open his eyes by tonight, we’ll have to bury him."
What?!
Malvin screamed internally, praying Roger wouldn’t overact. He didn’t want to end up acting in the afterlife too.
Nathan stepped forward hesitantly, looking sad. He gathered his courage to ask,
"...Is he really this bad? If he wakes up, will he be disabled?"
Roger sniffed and shook his head with a sorrowful expression. "If only I had come earlier."
Lucas patted his brother’s shoulder, impressed by the performance. But he kept his mouth shut, afraid he would burst into laughter.
Nael stood nearby, nervously clutching the edge of the blanket. "He looks so pale..." he said, suddenly breaking into uncontrollable tears.
His crying grew louder. He was too sad imagining Malvin gone forever. He couldn’t say anything else.
Lucas patted him hard on the back. "Just pray for him."
Nael sobbed harder, his face turning pale.
Nathan looked down, guilt filling his face. "I’m sorry. I should never have come here..."
Their goal was to make the twins remember this day so they wouldn’t repeat it, not to make Nathan feel guilty about coming back.
Roger clicked his tongue, wiping away nonexistent tears. "You know we love you very much. Malvin would go straight to hell if he heard you say that."
Damn it,
Malvin cursed silently. He was really struggling now. It was harder than he thought to stay still and not react.
Nathan lowered his head. "I’m sorry..."
Roger quickly stood up and pulled Nathan into his arms. "No, never say that again. We love you here. I don’t regret trading Malvin at the black market for your presence."
Malvin took a deep breath. His brother was really testing his patience.
Roger continued, "But you know, Malvin risked his life for you, for your safety. So I hope, if he comes back to life, you’ll treat him well."
Nathan wiped away tears that appeared out of nowhere.
Nael stepped closer and gently held Malvin’s hand. "Please wake up soon... We’re so sorry. I promise I won’t run away again," he whispered, his voice shaking.
Malvin held his breath tightly.
Roger immediately pulled Nael away when Malvin showed a tiny sign of movement. He cleared his throat. "Don’t disturb him too long. He needs to rest. Let’s just pray he wakes up tonight and can be with us again later."
Nathan and Nael nodded weakly. "Yes... okay."
Nael rubbed his eyes. "We’ll be back later. Stay strong, Malvin!"
One by one, the twins left, still looking back with worry and guilt.
As soon as the door closed—
Lucas sighed. "Gosh! That was close."
Roger exhaled in relief, crossing his arms. "I told you the bandage would work."
Malvin opened one eye. "They’re gone? Gosh, my neck is numb."
Louis approached with a meaningful smile. "Looks like they believed it."
Malvin snorted. "They think I was one step away from death."
Roger smiled proudly. "Perfect."
Malvin fell back onto the pillow with a groan.
"I swear, once this is over, I’m never acting again."
But for now... he had to remain "unconscious."

That night, Nael and Nathan couldn’t hide their happiness when they saw Malvin get out of bed. Nael immediately threw himself into his arms.
Nathan kept his distance, but his expression showed huge relief. He was glad the man was awake and smiling again. That meant he would recover soon, right? Without serious injuries or disabilities?
But just as that happy moment unfolded, tension filled the entire mansion when Alexander announced Antonio’s arrival.
Roger clicked his tongue. "Can’t it be postponed until next week?" he said.
Alexander knew he already knew the answer. Nothing could stop his grandfather.
Nathan looked at all his brothers. Why did they look tense at the news of Antonio’s arrival? Hadn’t Alexander said the man was nice?
Not only his brothers, but even the guards and servants in the mansion looked tense, pacing back and forth.
Nathan sensed something was definitely wrong.
