The three changed into their clothes, checked each other to ensure there were no issues, and slipped out from behind the boulder, heading towards the dungeon entrance.
Qin Yi walked in front.
Mo Wuji and Bai Jingqing followed respectfully with their heads lowered.
"Who goes there?"
From afar, someone shouted.
Qin Yi lowered his voice to mimic Fang Zan, speaking indifferently: "It's me."
A squad quickly approached, seeing Qin Yi's appearance, hurriedly bowed, "Greetings, Second Elder."
Qin Yi said indifferently: "Open the gate."
"Yes."
The Nascent Soul Realm expert did not hesitate, ordering someone to open the gate quickly.
There wasn't any interrogation, which surprised Qin Yi as things went smoothly.
Unbeknownst to him, Elders in the Fang Family wielded great power, especially Fang Zan as Second Elder, holding immense authority. Moreover, Fang Zan had a bad temper, making disciples quite fearful.
The Stone Gate slowly opened.
Qin Yi glanced around, realizing everyone was bowing their heads, and couldn't help but breathe slightly easier.
In truth, he and Mo Wuji wouldn't be easily recognized, but Bai Jingqing, being female, even with a height of one meter seventy, appeared slightly frail compared to men, so a close inspection would definitely reveal flaws.
Unfortunately, these people were too terrified of Fang Zan to lift their heads; no one dared to take a closer look.
Qin Yi led Mo Wuji and Bai Jingqing toward the dungeon entrance.
At the door, Qin Yi halted, speaking coldly: "Guard the outside well; without my orders, no one is allowed to enter."
"Yes."
This Nascent Soul Realm expert hurriedly responded.
Qin Yi led Mo Wuji and Bai Jingqing inside; after only a few steps, a shout came from behind: "Is that the Second Elder?"
Qin Yi's body stiffened slightly; the newcomer's cultivation was impressive, a mid Divine Separation stage expert, inevitably a Fang family elder.
The dungeon door was like a dividing line; outside was bright, inside was dim.
Qin Yi stood in the dark while Mo Wuji and Bai Jingqing hadn't stepped into the dungeon yet.
This is bad, Qin Yi thought.
Qin Yi clenched his teeth, didn't stop his steps, and continued inside.
"Is that the Second Elder?" The voice asked again.
Qin Yi paused, slowly turning because Mo Wuji and Bai Jingqing had already entered, and here was dimly lit; without drawing close, no one would notice any flaws.
An elder in a Qing Lan robe, with hair and beard white as snow, walked over.
However, Qin Yi didn't know who this was, guessing he was a Fang family elder but unsure which one.
"It's me," Qin Yi replied in a low voice.
He transmitted Divine Thought immediately, asking Mo Wuji who this was.
Mo Wuji dared not speak; the newcomer's cultivation was far superior, easily catching his sound, so he discreetly raised three fingers.
Qin Yi instantly understood; the man was the Third Elder of the Fang family.
He noticed Mo Wuji's trembling fingertips earlier; actually, his heart was also beating with anxiety.
After all, he wasn't truly Fang Zan, and the Third Elder certainly knew Fang Zan well. Moreover, although he now knew the man was the Third Elder, he didn't know his name.
Third Elder Fang Wwen approached, smiling: "Second Elder, what brings you to the dungeon so late?"
Qin Yi recalled Fang Zan's manner of speaking, and said: "Tomorrow is the wedding; news has spread. Yet Qin Yi hasn't shown. This boy is crafty; I'm worried he might secretly attempt a rescue, so I'm checking around as a precaution.
Why did you come to the dungeon so late? Are you worried too?"
Fang Wwen chuckled: "Indeed, I'm also concerned. According to our investigation, Qin Yi is very loyal to friends, but he hasn't appeared yet. I couldn't rest easy, so I'm here to check."
Qin Yi breathed a little easier; apparently, his mimicry of tone and voice was convincing, not arousing the Third Elder's suspicion.
"Shall we go in together to look at the two people?" Qin Yi suggested.
Bai Jingqing and Mo Wuji nervously clenched their fists; what was Qin Yi doing? Instead of trying to send Fang Wwen away, he actively invited him? Did he want them exposed?
Fang Wwen hesitated, "Second Elder, the two inside are not nearly as important to Qin Yi as Lan Jiaojiao. Since the Second Elder is here, I'll check on Lan Jiaojiao's side.
If Qin Yi aims to rescue, he'll surely save Lan Jiaojiao first."
Qin Yi nodded slightly, "You're right! But, we've set up a trap there; if he dares come, he won't return."
Fang Wwen nodded, "The Second Elder is correct. But I still can't rest easy without a glance; Qin Yi is truly cunning; I should check."
"Very well!" Qin Yi nodded.
"Then, I'll head over first."
Fang Wwen turned to leave.
The three breathed deeply with relief.
Qin Yi turned, leading the two further inside.
"Brother Qin, I was tense as death just now. Fang family elders know each other so well; I was really worried Fang Wwen would see through."
Bai Jingqing complained softly, "You even actively invited him? Worried we won't be exposed?"
"What do you know? This is advancing to escape; if I didn't suggest it, what if the man named Fang Wwen proposed it himself? Would I reject or agree?" Qin Yi smiled wryly; his palms were sweating with tension earlier.
Fang Wwen wasn't terrifying, but the truly terrifying ones were the Fang family ancestors, those old monsters with unknown lifespans.
If truly exposed, the Fang family might become his burial ground, also implicating Bai Jingqing and Mo Wuji.
Luckily, his acting was good enough to deceive Fang Wwen.
In the dungeon, it was dark and damp, the air thick with decay and a stench of blood.
Walking down a stone staircase, they reached the dungeon.
The Fang family's dungeon was like a narrow corridor, with a stone slab road in the middle, and two sides formed cages with child-arm-thick steel bars connecting stone walls.
The lighting here was dim; every ten meters, there was a ghostly lamp.
The deeper they went, the stronger the stench of rot, making them nauseous.
In such an environment, never seeing daylight, even a decent person could become neurotic.
"Clank!"
Suddenly, next to them, came the sound of chains scraping and beast-like roars.
The three peered through the cage's gaps, momentarily stunned.
A dried-up, ragged, filthy person of indistinguishable gender was pierced through the shoulder blades by two massive black hooks, bound hand and foot by child-arm-thick chains, only able to stand due to chain length.
This person lifted their head, gazing at the three, instilling a chill within their hearts.
Their face was obscured by hair like weeds, but their eyes were visible. Eyes full of resentment and hatred like a wounded fierce beast, chilling to the core.
Qin Yi withdrew his gaze, looking at the next cage, even he couldn't help catching his breath.
This cell's prisoner had their limbs severed, their entire body impaled by a giant iron hook through the neck, hanging in midair, dead for who knows how long, swaying like a hanging ghost.
