The black fog was rapidly spreading, rolling like a beast devouring humans.
The Zhu Family members gripped their weapons tightly, their nervous palms sweating, yet they refused to take half a step back.
Because if they retreated, the hundreds of thousands of civilians in the county town behind them would suffer.
The Guardian Family, this title for some families meant power and status. But for others, it was an honor worth guarding with their lives.
If the Diao Family had understood the significance and honor of the word 'Guardian' back then, they would not have faced the fate of being slaughtered to extinction by Qin Yi.
The black fog was getting closer, and Zhu Chuan and the others tensed up.
They were very nervous and scared because there were too many monsters inside. Once engaged in battle, death was inevitable, and no one could remain calm in the face of death; this was human nature.
However, their spirit was rare and commendable, willing to sacrifice themselves for others, something only a few could achieve.
Yet, just as the black fog was less than twenty meters away from them, a sudden sharp sound of something slicing through the air was heard.
Instinctively, Zhu Chuan and the others looked up to see more than a dozen figures darting towards them like lightning in the dark.
These people were extremely fast, with strong and domineering auras, reaching them in a blink of an eye.
The leader, dressed in black brocade, was slim but his eyes were sharp as lightning, coldly staring at the rolling black fog ahead.
"Who are you?" Zhu Di asked curiously.
"Peace Army, Wu Zhao."
Zhu Chuan and the others were shocked, not expecting it to be the Peace Army under Qin Yi.
"Zhu Chuan, Head of the Zhu Family, at your service, Mr. Wu."
Wu Zhao waved his hand, his gaze falling on the monster's corpse nearby, "This is?"
"I killed it," Zhu Di said.
Wu Zhao was slightly stunned, "You went inside the black fog?"
Zhu Di nodded.
Wu Zhao looked at Zhu Di with admiration, "You're impressive."
Zhu Di smiled, "Are you here to support us?"
Wu Zhao nodded, "On Qin Yi's orders, the entire Peace Army is mobilized. We were closer, so we arrived quicker. Others will come later. Tell me about the situation."
Zhu Di explained the situation inside the black fog.
Wu Zhao's face turned serious.
The black fog was swiftly upon them, and Wu Zhao raised his hand, his two broken blades directly piercing into the fog.
The blades were like awns, as fast as lightning, evidently hitting something? Screeches of pain came from the fog.
With a gesture, the two blades returned from the fog, stained with dark green liquid, similar to the corrosive liquid oozing from the nearby monster corpse, emitting a foul stench.
"Retreat," Wu Zhao said.
To casually strike and hit monsters inside the fog showed the sheer number of monsters within.
Zhu Chuan and the others were stunned, not expecting Wu Zhao to ask them to retreat.
Zhu Di said, "We can't retreat, there are hundreds of thousands of civilians living in the county town behind us."
Wu Zhao glanced at him, "Don't worry, the speed of the black fog's spread won't reach the county. Others will arrive soon, and then we'll act together to block it. The number of monsters inside the fog is countless, confronting them head-on is a death wish for our numbers. Retreat first, then figure out a plan. Fighting head-on is not the best strategy."
Zhu Chuan and the others nodded; since Wu Zhao was from the Peace Army and highly cultivated, he was in charge here.
The group quickly retreated.
Unexpectedly, as they retreated, the black fog's spread speed increased significantly.
Wu Zhao furrowed his brows, raising his hand to stop the group.
As they stopped, the fog's spreading slowed.
"It seems this black fog changes its spreading speed based on our retreat speed," Zhu Di said.
Wu Zhao nodded slightly but couldn't understand why.
"Let's slow down and retreat step by step."
As Wu Zhao and the others retreated slowly, the fog spread equally slowly.
However, for every step they retreated, the fog advanced one.
Wu Zhao, feeling bored, kept thrusting his blades into the fog, killing the monsters inside.
The other Peace Army members followed suit, thrusting their weapons into the fog, slaying the monsters inside while retreating and fighting.
Zhu Chuan and the others were quite envious because if their weapons left their hands, they wouldn't have the ability to retrieve them.
The Peace Army members all knew the Sword Control Technique, taught to them by Qin Yi.
An hour later, Wu Zhao and the others had retreated several miles.
Wu Zhao was getting fed up, "You all retreat, I'll go in and take a look."
With those words, his figure flickered and directly vanished into the fog.
Inside came the muffled sounds of explosions and the creatures' screeches of pain.
However, the sounds of battle gradually faded. Initially, Wu Zhao's fighting with the monsters could be heard, but eventually, it was completely inaudible.
The group couldn't help but worry if Wu Zhao was in trouble.
As everyone was concerned, another group appeared.
Ten people came, led by Mu Lingchen.
Zhu Chuan and the others knew it must be more members of the Peace Army.
Mu Lingchen looked at Wu Zhao's subordinates, "Where's your captain?"
"The captain went into the fog."
Mu Lingchen looked at the billowing fog, "Why did he go in?"
"To kill monsters."
"Monsters? What kind of monsters?"
Zhu Di recounted the situation inside again.
Mu Lingchen frowned, "How long has Wu Zhao been inside?"
"About half an hour."
Mu Lingchen couldn't help but look worried, "That fool, the visibility inside this fog is low. Could he have lost his way?"
The group also worried, as Wu Zhao hadn't come out, suggesting he might be lost inside.
Mu Lingchen was about to go in to find Wu Zhao when more people appeared, led by Murong Qianxun.
As they were all familiar, there was no need for formalities. Mu Lingchen informed Murong Qianxun about Wu Zhao going inside and not coming out.
Murong Qianxun coldly spat out two words, "Reckless fool."
Mu Lingchen smiled wryly, "He did act rashly this time, but the number of monsters inside is too great. I'm worried something happened to him. I plan to go in and find him. Do you want to join?"
"Wait," Murong Qianxun said.
Mu Lingchen asked in surprise, "Wait for what?"
"For others and Qin Yi. With Wu Zhao's cultivation, self-preservation shouldn't be an issue. He probably just lost his way, unlikely to be in mortal danger."
Zhu Di's eyes lit up, hearing Murong Qianxun mention Qin Yi's arrival.
Mu Lingchen nodded, instructing everyone to retreat slowly and wait for the rest of the Peace Army.
The key was to wait for Qin Yi, as the black fog was too peculiar. They could handle killing, but dealing with the monsters within a black mist was tricky.
Half an hour later, Xiahou Jun appeared with his group.
Soon after, Xuan Zhan and Bai Siyin also arrived with their teams.
They used aircraft to facilitate rapid support, so their speed was swift.
The sky showed the light of dawn, daylight was breaking.
All members of the Peace Army were present.
Only Qin Yi was missing.
Speak of the devil and the devil appears.
A piercing sound of something slicing through the sky came from the horizon, a streak of light pierced through the clouds at an incredible speed approaching.
The crowd only saw a flash, and a figure appeared before them.
The newcomer was none other than Qin Yi, who had raced throughout the night under the technique of Star Covering and Moon Cutting to arrive.
