Lord of The Mysterious Realms-Chapter 52: Chain Ability

"Don't be a fool," he thought. "What are the odds of running into that person here?"
He chuckled, and the members of the gathering reconvened.
Jenkins was quite satisfied with the effect. He wanted everyone to focus their attention on the black robe. After all, that was the Bestowal's true form, exposed during the divination only to conceal its own nature. In use, it looked nothing like that.
"Thanks for the warning,"
Mr. Black Cat murmured his thanks to Jenkins, then announced the news he had obtained to the group:
"Members of the Gear Artisans' Guild and the Life Sharing Alliance have come to Nolan. The former worships the Gear King, an indescribable evil god composed of a billion cogs, while the latter is a branch of the church of the evil god known as the Lord of Immortality."
"Why would they come to Nolan?"
Mr. Hood asked, puzzled. It was the same question Jenkins had. Normally, these followers of evil gods wouldn't change their gathering places so easily, unless their stronghold had suffered a devastating blow.
"I'm not sure, but the information is absolutely reliable. The news has already started to spread among the Enchanters of Nolan City. I learned of it at another gathering yesterday. Don't you all go getting yourselves killed; there are fewer and fewer unregistered Enchanters like us these days..."
Mr. Black Cat answered, his voice muffled.
For a moment, the group fell silent. The thought of MrBirchwood's disappearance cast a pall of sadness over them.
"Someone has already passed the information to the Orthodox Church through the black market. After all, the Gear King is the mortal enemy of the Master Artificer, and the followers of the Lord of Immortality are constantly hunted by the Church of Death and End."
Mr. Black Cat added. Then, Skylark Miss, who had been quiet until now, sighed softly:
"I hope the Orthodox Church can capture those wretched cultists soon, so we can live peacefully in Nolan."
Though the sentiment was somewhat out of place coming from a black-robed figure meeting by a cemetery at midnight, those cruel pseudo-gods were the greatest terror for both followers of the Righteous Gods and ordinary pseudo-god believers alike.
"My news is that the steam airship from the Church of Knowledge and Books didn't return to the royal capital. Instead, it flew directly out to the open sea."
"Let's hope their main combat force returns quickly,"
Jenkins said in a low voice, earning nods of support from the other four.
"Next is the trading session. I am still looking to acquire pure silver that has been blessed by the Church of All Things and Nature."
Seeing no reaction from the others, Mr. Hood let out a sigh. He probably wasn't holding out much hope anymore.
During this trading session, MrMagic mentioned she had some "special" talismans for sale, but she would only accept trades. In the end, she struck a deal with Mr. Hood.
Jenkins also revealed that he wanted to purchase a Star Shard crystal. Everyone knew of it, but no one had one on hand. However, MrMagic indicated she had some connections, so Jenkins paid her a two-pound deposit, hoping to find the material as soon as possible.
Because of the changes in his Eye of Reality, Jenkins could now clearly perceive everyone's strength. MrMagic and Mr. Hood were the most formidable, both at level 5. However, all ten of the former's bubbles had transformed into points of light, while the latter had clearly just advanced.
Mr. Black Cat was level 3, and Skylark Miss was level 2.
"It seems the power gap among unregistered Enchanters is quite large..."
At the very end of the gathering, it was Skylark Miss, the weakest among them, who produced something extraordinary.
"I've been attending this gathering for a while now, and I believe everyone here can be trusted."
She paused, her hooded head turning pointedly to glance at Jenkins.
"I hope none of you will speak of what I'm about to sell. It would cause a great deal of trouble."
"As long as it's not stolen goods!"
Mr. Hood still hadn't forgotten that his organization was a "legal gathering."
"Of course not."
She nodded, motioned for everyone to gather a little closer, and then whispered, "I have a method to increase one's Spirit limit, effective for anyone below level 7. I also have a chain ability that can be learned."
No one spoke. Only the rustle of leaves in the night wind broke the silence.
So, Skylark Miss explained in a low voice:
"The method carries a certain degree of risk and can only be performed before sunset, but beyond that, the possibility of losing control is very small. The chain ability requires three bubbles, but it is absolutely worth it."
They still remained silent. Jenkins didn't know what the others were thinking, but he was incredibly interested in this so-called "chain ability." A "chain" referred to an ability that required learning several different skills, which, when combined, produced a remarkable effect.
It could be understood as a combo skill.
These chain abilities required learning many seemingly useless skills just to piece them together. This meant occupying extra bubbles, something intolerable for an ordinary Enchanter with a limited number of ability slots.
More importantly, chain abilities were exceptionally valuable. Even the entire Nolan diocese possessed only two. Since Jenkins's reward had yet to be finalized, he was unable to learn them. With four bubbles still available, he was extremely intrigued.
As for the method of increasing one's Spirit limit, Jenkins didn't have the courage to try it. His own Spirit was already increasing at a rapid pace. The effect of transcribing those tadpole-like texts varied among Enchanters. Papa Oliver believed Jenkins's speed was extremely fast, attributing this phenomenon to Jenkins's respect for knowledge and eagerness to learn, which aligned with the Sage's teachings.
He considered for a moment, then slid his right hand into his sleeve. Skylark Miss was on his right. Jenkins activated his Frost Punch ability and, flexing a finger, flicked it against the fabric of his clothes to mimic the effect of a punch. Skylark Miss immediately felt the unusual change in temperature.
She gave Jenkins a slight nod, making sure the others didn't notice.
After a few more secret exchanges of items, the gathering soon came to a close. Based on the size of the fallen leaves they had picked, Jenkins was the first to leave.
He quickly used his Flexible Legs ability, jogging a lap around the woods next to the cemetery. After carefully clearing away his footprints, he returned to the meeting spot by climbing a tree.
He hadn't expected to find Skylark Miss and Mr. Hood standing in the shadows, deep in conversation. They spotted him the instant he appeared.
Jenkins grinned and nodded, taking a few steps back to signal his complete lack of curiosity. He then turned, climbed back up the tree, and lifted his head to quietly admire the charm of the unfamiliar starry sky.
He could guess, of course, that Mr. Hood was likely interested in the method for increasing the Spirit limit. With his lack of available bubbles, learning the chain ability was out of the question.
But what did that have to do with him? He had little interest in such a method.
Mr. Hood departed soon after, his footsteps deliberately loud to let Jenkins know he could come down.
