Chapter 63: Discovery
"Hmm hmm uh-huh uh-hum" I make humming sounds with my mouth as I walk down the street to meet Setsuna. She told me, "Ayane, let’s meet up to study at this place," and showed me her phone, and I agreed.
She said it would be me, her, and Hinata to study together. We studied at the library a couple of days ago, so another small study session sounds great.
Although Setsuna seemed a bit strange when inviting me, as if she was expecting something extra beyond our usual meeting.
"Ayane, over here!" I hear her voice calling my attention, and I look to see Setsuna coming towards me with a smile.
"Oh, Setsuna got here early," I say to her with a smile.
"Yes, I was excited to study together," she says, crossing the street completely to reach me.
"Uhum, but we have to wait for Hinata," I say, looking around and seeing that she’s not here yet.
"..." Setsuna seems to think for a moment and then grabs her phone.
"Look," Setsuna says, taking out her phone, and I see Hexael appearing. It seems this little kitten really likes to follow Setsuna he’s sitting on a trash can across the street, watching us.
Leaving the brief glimpse of Hexael, I look at Setsuna’s phone, noticing that she’s sending a message to Hinata but with a different location than ours. Hinata confirms she’s coming, but after a while, Setsuna realizes the mistake and tries to correct it, but Hinata doesn’t see the message.
It seems Setsuna made a simple mistake by sending Hinata a different location, and then when she tried to correct it, Hinata didn’t see the message.
"Ah, it looks like she’s in a different place now," I say, noticing the small error. We’ll have to go there.
"Yes, I’m sorry I sent her to the wrong place..." Setsuna says, taking her phone back and putting it in her pocket.
"Then let’s go, or she might think we forgot about the meeting," I say with a smile, starting to walk. It’s a bit far from here, but I think we can get there in a few minutes.
"Meow."
"Hya?" I get startled when Hexael suddenly jumps on top of my head and jumps over to Setsuna’s side.
"H-How?" I swore I saw him across the street, how did he get around so quickly? Cats are truly unique.
"It seems Hexael wants to come with us," I say, looking at Hexael walking beside Setsuna.
"Yes... he wants to come to see," Setsuna says, not looking at Hexael.
"See?"
"...Maybe he thinks we’re going to feed him," Setsuna says, but I feel like that’s not exactly what she meant.
"This cat is amazing, he finds you at school, on the street, and he even showed up at my house once..."
"What did you say?" Setsuna interrupts me as I was talking about how impressive Hexael’s ability to locate her is.
"I said he finds you easily on the school."
"After that."
"I said he also finds you easily on the street?"
"After that."
"Ah, I said he showed up at my house, or rather, on the street near my house, and I took him with me to feed him, and in the morning I let him out..." I can’t talk about the dream I had of Setsuna kissing me that night.
"Is there a problem?" I ask, looking at how strangely Setsuna is looking at Hexael.
"None..." Setsuna looks at Hexael so strangely, as if she’s communicating with him without saying anything, like giving a warning just with her eyes.
’Pet owners can really do that!?’ I wonder, seeing how Hexael seems to understand Setsuna’s gaze and just turns his head, looking at me as if asking to be defended.
"Setsuna, he didn’t make a mess, he’s actually quite well-behaved. He just ate what I left for him and left in the morning... oh, and he hid some of my things in other places, but that’s normal for cats," I say, defending Hexael.
"...Ayane, please don’t take Hexael into your house anymore," Setsuna says seriously, which sends a chill down my spine. It’s that same emotionless look she normally has, but this time it’s directed at me, which is very rare.
"S-Sure... I-I don’t even know if he’s vaccinated and doesn’t have any diseases, I was careless," I just make up an excuse to change the subject without having the courage to ask why I can’t take him to my house.
We walk the rest of the way in silence. Setsuna really seems to be "upset" about this Hexael thing, I wonder why.
Soon we arrive in an area that is extremely close to the marked location, but I feel the presence of a monster and become alert.
"Setsuna, I’m sensing a monster nearby!" I tell Setsuna, looking around attentively. The street is quite empty and it’s nighttime, the perfect time for monsters to act.
"Ayane, should we get out of here?" Setsuna asks as I think.
"Maybe we should inform the base and... HINATA!!! She’s supposed to come to this place!" I say, alarmed as I remember that this is exactly where she should be.
"Yes, and what if she’s been caught by a monster? I mean, logically, a pretty girl, alone on the street at night in an area without cameras would be the perfect target for a monster to try and take," Setsuna says, and it all starts to make sense.
"If Hinata has been taken, calling someone from the base to help us will take too much time, and if we fight, we might end up losing, but I believe we’re strong enough to defeat the monster, don’t you think?" Setsuna says as I think it over.
"You’re right... we should go check it out, I feel the presence in that direction!" I say, pointing down the path, and I realize Hexael has disappeared.
"Where’s Hexael?" I ask with doubt.
"He left a few moments ago. Let’s go, Ayane. Don’t get distracted Hinata or anyone else could be in danger. Lead the way to the monster," Setsuna says, refocusing me.
"You’re right, I’m sorry for losing focus. Let’s go!" I say, following forward down the path I believe the monster is.
...
...
...
I follow behind Ayane as she enters an alley. I can only feel disgust towards Hexael. I did exactly what he wanted I made Hinata come to the location where there would be a monster that Hexael found in just one day, as if everything was pre-planned.
The whole planning and execution took less than two days, and here I am now, with Ayane, going to "rescue" Hinata, who at this point must be being used by someone who is being mentally controlled.
Honestly, I don’t feel anything about it, aside from a slight increase in my power. My magic clearly started growing a few minutes ago, indicating that yes, everything went as Hexael said.
There’s just one thing that bothers me Hexael appeared at Ayane’s house, but he didn’t tell me anything about having spent an entire night at Ayane’s house.
’What does that damn demon want with my sister...’ He said he wouldn’t mess with her, but it’s better that son of a bitch isn’t breaking the agreement. He knows very well that our contract has rules, and if either of us breaks it, we’ll end up losing.
I may be chained to this contract and haven’t paid the price yet, but he’s also chained to the same contract, and messing with Ayane negatively is obviously a breach of the agreement to save her.
’I’ll have to talk to him about that later.’ We need a long conversation about this after everything here is over.
"..." Ayane suddenly stops, putting her hand over her mouth, looking shocked. I move a bit, seeing the scene from behind a bakery a tall man is raping Hinata, who is just moaning and crying.
There’s semen and love juices on the ground while Hinata’s moans reach us here where the two of us are.
’This is strange, why does she seem to be enjoying it? Does this also work on those who are not affected?’ Monsters increase the pleasure felt by the girls, making it difficult for them to flee or attack.
But it seems that controlled humans also have this effect, seeing how Hinata appears to be enjoying it, or she’s just an extreme masochist, but I doubt that, so I’m left with the hypothesis of the pleasure-enhancing effect that monsters create.
"W-Why did you stop me?" Ayane asks when I hold her back from rushing to rescue Hinata.
"First, we haven’t activated our uniforms, and second, don’t you find this scene strange?" Ayane is blushing, a mix of shame and pure rage at what we’re seeing.
"Strange how! She’s being raped!" Ayane says a bit loudly. I’ve never seen this side of her before.
’It’s... unpleasant...’
"Ayane, don’t you find the effects of the area strange? No people, no police patrolling, and Hinata, who obviously seems to be enjoying it, which is very strange given the seemingly non-consensual scene."
"I think that man is being controlled, and according to the rules of the magical girl base, civilians should not be killed or harmed even if they are the enemy, as they are not fully conscious."
"Look at how that man is drooling and his eyes are dull and hazy, as if he’s not truly conscious."
"..."
"I’m not saying we shouldn’t do anything, but it means there’s some monster hiding in the area, and it will run away as soon as we show up. So I suggest we rescue Hinata and call the magical girl base to deal with Hinata’s memory."
I’m not even sure how this memory-erasing thing works. It wasn’t explained in the contract clauses that the two of us signed, and I have no idea if it’s fully automatic or if someone has to do it.
"We can also ask nearby magical girls to help hunt down the monster," I suggest.
"You’re right, the well-being of both is important. I’m sorry for being impulsive," she apologizes, but speaks with conviction.
"Yes, their well-being is the most important..." I agree as we both activate our magical girl outfits, and of course I use the mask to perfectly conceal my presence from civilians and any potential recognition.
