Ji Qinglin had just gotten into the car with the delirious Yu Ye when a cold chuckle came from behind the partition in the driver’s seat. It was that familiar husky female voice again:
“You d*mn conman, you really are a beast in human clothing. You’d even lay hands on your own disciple.”
Ignoring the mocking words, Ji Qinglin checked Yu Ye’s condition. Aside from a feverish body, a hazy mind, and restless hands grabbing at anything, there didn’t seem to be any other issues.
Ji Qinglin couldn’t be bothered to explain.
“Yes, yes, I am. So, to ensure I don’t harm my own disciple any further, could I trouble you to detoxify her?”
———
When Yu Ye woke up again, a fresh breeze was flowing through the car window.
She felt something hard beneath her and, upon opening her eyes, found herself pressed against Ji Qinglin, face to face. Startled, she instinctively lifted her head sharply. Thankfully, Ji Qinglin had raised a hand to shield her, or she would’ve slammed straight into the car roof.
“We’re not there yet. Just hold on a bit longer.”
Yu Ye rubbed her still-dizzy head.
“Uh… Why am I sleeping here? What the hell happened?”
As she spoke, she finally noticed how tightly her body was pressed against Ji Qinglin’s. But given the cramped space, shifting positions wasn’t exactly an option, so she could only lean back as much as possible.
“This might take a while to explain. Let me introduce you to someone first—the doctor who detoxed you.”
Ji Qinglin tapped on the car window. The driver let out an impatient huff before lowering the partition.
Before Yu Ye could see clearly, a strong scent of smoke hit her nose, though the fresh air quickly dispersed it.
At the wheel sat a woman who looked a few years older than Yu Ye.
She wore a black jacket, her mechanical arm gripping the steering wheel, while her other hand flicked ash out the window. Wavy brown hair partially obscured her face, but through the rearview mirror, a pair of deep green eyes were visible, narrowed in clear disapproval at Ji Qinglin.
Seeing that Yu Ye was awake, she instinctively snuffed out her cigarette and flicked it out the window.
“This dashing driver here is Shen Bixin, owner of Bixin Hall Medical Clinic—the best doctor on Xichang Street, offering the most reasonable prices!”
“You d*mn conman, no amount of flattery is going to get you a discount on your next treatment.”
“In that case, I’ll just try not to bother you in the future.”
“Hello, Dr. Shen!”
Yu Ye greeted as respectfully as possible.
Shen Bixin glanced at Yu Ye, her expression relaxing slightly as she nodded and instructed,
“You were drugged with an Indian aphrodisiac called Yin-Yang Harmony Powder. I’ve already given you an anti-heat injection. The remaining toxins will clear out in the next couple of days—just drink plenty of water.”
Hearing words like
Yin-Yang Harmony Powder
and
anti-heat injection
, Yu Ye felt her cheeks flush again.
“Uh… Thank you, Dr. Shen. While I was drugged and unconscious, I didn’t… didn’t do anything stupid, did I?”
Shen Bixin didn’t answer. She simply cast a glance at Ji Qinglin, who coughed dryly and adjusted his collar.
“No, nothing major. You were just… a little restless while unconscious.”
Yu Ye could tell they weren’t telling her everything, but she couldn’t push further.
Cold Yu Ye:
What did I even do? Hello? Can you hear me?
Mad Yu Ye::
Don’t talk to me. I can’t afford this level of embarrassment.
Cold Yu Ye:
Tell me what I did!
Mad Yu Ye::
Nothing much. You just wrapped your legs around your Master’s waist, rubbed up against him, blew hot air on his neck, bit here and there… You can check his neck for proof. Lucky for you, he shoved his finger in your mouth for you to bite on, or you might’ve blurted out some really obscene stuff…
Cold Yu Ye:
STOP TALKING!
Yu Ye wished she could crawl into a hole and disappear. But given that she was currently sprawled on Ji Qinglin, struggling would only make things worse.
Mad Yu Ye::
But seriously, this guy has insane self-control. He didn’t do a single thing to you—just held you in place to monitor your condition. Either he’s completely impotent or he’s gay.
Cold Yu Ye:
I wouldn’t have been poisoned in the first place if that b*****d had just explained things properly!
Sensing the awkward atmosphere in the car, Ji Qinglin quickly changed the subject.
“As for the other person, well… you’re already familiar with him.”
With that, he slid open the partition to the cargo area.
Inside, Sang Feng—the man who had hit on Yu Ye at the bar—was now tightly bound on a medical bed, drooling uncontrollably from his slackened mouth.
“This is…?”
“Sang Feng. He did make sure you remembered his name, after all.”
“I know that. But why is he here?”
“Because he’s both Dr. Shen’s target for capture… and the donor for your Cultivation Meridian Set.”
Yu Ye was completely stunned. She turned to Ji Qinglin for confirmation.
“Master… Are you saying I’m going to use
his
meridians for my Cultivation Meridian Set?”
“Of course. You think we went through all this trouble just to take him on a joyride?”
“But if you extract his meridians… won’t he die?”
“Well, technically, he
could
survive… but there’s no need to save him.”
“You’re… killing him for his meridians? He may not be a good person, but… isn’t this a bit much? Won’t we get caught?”
Before Ji Qinglin could respond, Shen Bixin had already driven into a side garage and parked.
“I’ll take him inside first. Conman, you explain things to your disciple properly, or she might just you. But don’t worry, Yu Ye—I may not be able to vouch for
him
, but I’m not some indiscriminate murderer.”
With that, she opened the rear door and single-handedly dragged the incapacitated Sang Feng into the medical storage room.
Ji Qinglin groaned internally.
Great. So now, according to her, only me and Sang Feng are the bad guys?
“This whole thing…”
“Can we get out of the car first? My legs are going numb.”
Yu Ye had been so caught up in everything that she’d forgotten the car had already stopped. Hearing Ji Qinglin’s reminder, she quickly scrambled off him. Her legs were still a bit weak, but that overwhelming primal urge had mostly faded.
Still, the sheer humiliation made her want to kill someone to shut them up.
Ji Qinglin, however, looked completely at ease.
“Before we go any further, congratulations, disciple, on passing the first round of your probation test. Up until now, your unconditional trust in me has been
remarkably
solid.”
“So, would you
kindly
explain everything properly? Otherwise, I fear that trust won’t last much longer.”
Ji Qinglin smirked slightly.
Quite a bit of resentment there. But at least she speaks her mind.
“Alright, let’s start from the beginning.
A week ago, Sang Feng and his men came to me at Nightfall Bar, demanding I sell Ji Family General Store. He tried to intimidate me by name-dropping Celestial Dao Biotech Company, but I refused.
While that company does have some influence in Bangkok, and Sang Feng
is
one of their black-market agents, I knew they wouldn’t actually care what stores their operatives took over.
I thought that was the end of it—until Shen Bixin told me she’d been approached the same way. Recently, some store owners in their Commerce Guild had even been killed. She suspected Sang Feng was involved, so she started investigating.
What she found was shocking.
Not only was he supplying the company with illegal test subjects, but he was also using his connections to traffic humans and sell organs in Bangkok.
Not every smuggler gets thrown into prison like you did, Yu Ye. Those unlucky enough to cross paths with Sang Feng? They either got sold off in pieces… or as a whole.”
Yu Ye frowned, nodding thoughtfully.
“So you decided to eliminate this b*****d for justice?”
Ji Qinglin shrugged.
“Why would I care about justice? I was just shocked by how ruthless and shameless he was. But at the time, I had no intention of killing him—after all, it had nothing to do with me.”
