Master, What Dao Do You Cultivate?-Chapter 47: Master Has Another Disciple Outside

Chapter 47

The storm came fast and left just as quickly. By morning, all that remained outside the window was a gloomy gray.
Caw caw——
Early in the morning, the Coal Boss saw Ji Qinglin and Yu Ye lying on the sofa. He shrieked loudly and woke the two of them, looking like a jealous spouse catching them in bed.
Mad Ye: D*mn, you climbed into his bed in the middle of the night? So spicy and you didn’t call me?
Yu Ye: I was just lying next to him, sleeping. What’s there to make a fuss about?
Mad Ye: Next time, it won’t just be the bed you’re climbing into.
Ji Qinglin grabbed the noisy Coal Boss and stood up. Just as he was about to leave the living room, he suddenly remembered something and turned back to ask:
“Yu Ye, that line about ‘Imperial Jade Liquor’—was that really just a reflex reply?”
Yu Ye’s willow brows furrowed slightly. Her expression was a bit helpless, but her apricot eyes remained sincere:
“Of course. Why, Master?”
Ji Qinglin smiled in relief, thinking this little one probably hadn’t been through what he had. He replied:
“No reason. Just thought our Master and Disciple bond is really something. Get up, I’ll cook today to reward you a bit.”
As her master headed downstairs, Yu Ye asked, “You really replied on instinct?”
Mad Ye: No way? Even I don’t buy that! I swear on my next life’s virginity!
Yu Ye: Honestly, I’m curious how you even knew that line.
Mad Ye: Maybe someone I devoured back then knew it. You were all high and mighty, only killed but didn’t eat. If you had, maybe you’d know too.
Hearing that, Yu Ye recalled that bloody past like raising Gu and shook her head, not wanting to think about it anymore.
Beep beep beep——
Just as the shop’s door opened, the phone at the counter suddenly rang.
“Hello? Zhenghao? What happened... What did you say?! Okay! We’ll be right there! Don’t panic yet!”
Yu Ye was startled too. After all, it was the first time she’d seen her Master so anxious.
“Master, what’s wrong?”
Ji Qinglin’s brows were tightly furrowed. He hung up the phone and grabbed his helmet.
“Someone attacked Leiming Manor early this morning. President Lei Qiong is seriously injured and unconscious.”
Yu Ye’s eyes widened in disbelief. She recalled that hearty uncle at the dinner table and asked in confusion,
“President is seriously injured and unconscious? How’s that possible? Who’s capable of that?”
Ji Qinglin handed the helmet to Yu Ye and said,
“No one knows yet. We need to get to the hospital first.”
Ji Qinglin had been living in this world for two years since awakening. During this time, apart from those he had helped, only Old Hu and President Lei Qiong had treated him with genuine warmth.
On the way to the hospital, Yu Ye finally realized her master could ride the Night Owl this fast—felt like he wasn’t any slower than a professional racer. Compared to this, their usual rides felt more like joyrides.
By the time the two of them arrived at Xindong Street Hospital, quite a crowd had already gathered outside the private ward.
But even as Ji Qinglin and Yu Ye approached, the other elders of the Commerce Guild didn’t greet them. They continued chatting among themselves. Only Lei Zhenghao, with red-rimmed eyes, came over.
“Qinglin-ge, you’re here.”
“How’s it going? What’s the situation?”
“The doctor said he’s just barely out of danger but still hasn’t regained consciousness. Mom’s inside with him.”
“What the h*ll happened?”
Lei Zhenghao took a deep breath, calmed himself, and explained what he knew.
Turned out last night, the rest of the Lei family had been out. Only the servants and the President were at the manor.
During the early morning downpour, the servants heard thunder and loud booms from the backyard. At first, they thought it was just a lightning strike collapsing the house. But once the rain let up and they went to check, they found the entire back section had collapsed—and the President was lying seriously injured in the rubble.
Ji Qinglin looked around and asked,
“Where’s your sister?”
“As soon as she confirmed Dad was out of danger, she went back to investigate and look for clues.”
Ji Qinglin sighed,
“That hothead... Zhenghao, from now on, make sure the ward is tightly guarded. Post reliable Qi Refiners for protection. I’ll make a quick trip back to Leiming Manor.”
“But Qinglin-ge, if someone really wanted to kill my father, wouldn’t they have done it last night?”
Ji Qinglin glanced toward the elders in the hallway to make sure no one was looking, then leaned in and whispered,
“Whoever attacked him last night probably didn’t plan to kill. But now that the President’s seriously injured, anyone who wants him dead could strike at any time.”
“Got it!”
With nothing more to contribute medically, Ji Qinglin and Yu Ye headed to Leiming Manor.
As soon as they stepped into the backyard, they were met with a field of rubble. The main house and both side wings had completely collapsed. Broken bricks and shattered tiles were scattered everywhere—not even a full wall remained. There were also several large, scorched craters in the center of the yard.
Yu Ye was shocked.
“The President must’ve fought someone here? To cause this much destruction—just who was the opponent?”
Ji Qinglin walked a lap around the ruins and returned to one of the blackened pits. He looked up and around, puzzled.
“This doesn’t look like damage from a fight. All three buildings collapsed completely, and the debris is oddly uniform. Plus those big craters... Tsk, this looks more like it was caused by a single attack.”
“A single move?”
Even though she hadn’t seen the fight, judging by the destruction, Yu Ye could imagine the power behind that thunderous strike.
And based on the outcome, President Lei Qiong must’ve been on the receiving end of that blow.
Just then, a few bodyguard-looking people rushed in and began combing through the debris. A woman in a blue trench coat followed behind them.
“Check everything thoroughly! Don’t miss anything suspicious!”
Her voice was urgent but loud and powerful—clearly no ordinary Qi Refiner.
Yu Ye whispered,
“Master, is that the President’s daughter?”
“Yeah, Lei Qiuyun. The President’s chosen successor. Folks call her Little Thunder Duke. Her personality and style are quite similar to her father. She’s not weak, but to hold up the whole Commerce Guild? Without the President, I’m afraid...”
Hearing the commotion, Lei Qiuyun turned and spotted Ji Qinglin. She jumped over immediately.
“You’re here too? Great. Let’s all search for clues to the attacker.”
Only up close did Yu Ye realize how tall this girl was—just a hair shorter than her Master. Even her loose trench coat couldn’t hide her model-tier figure. Her refined features had a mature vibe. Stray strands of black hair clung to her temples, and sweat beaded on her furrowed brow—clearly she was a mess inside.
Ji Qinglin sighed and patted her shoulder. The bodyguards turned to look. Then Ji Qinglin gave his command:
“Stop searching. Everyone, back to the hospital with me.”
Lei Qiuyun grabbed his arm and snapped,
“What kind of order is that?! We need to find clues to the attacker here!”
“So you can follow the trail and let the killer strike again?”
“You—!”
“The only solid lead we have right now is the President himself. If you all don’t go back, and just leave things to Zhenghao, the President’s going to turn from a witness into a corpse.”
Lei Qiuyun calmed down a bit and said,
“I’ll assign people to watch over my father. But this is still the primary crime scene. If we don’t search now, then when—”
Ji Qinglin cut her off bluntly:
“If the President’s still alive, that means the attacker never intended to kill him. To do this kind of damage and still walk away unharmed—what kind of clue do you think they’d leave behind? And let me remind you: everyone else can go looking for the attacker. You're the only one who doesn’t have that luxury.”
“Why not?”
Ji Qinglin stared her down and said slowly, word by word:
“Because from the moment the President went down this morning, your Commerce Guild has been teetering on the brink of collapse... Acting President.”
Lei Qiuyun, who just moments ago had been seething with defiance, suddenly realized what he meant. She took a deep breath to calm herself, then gave Ji Qinglin a small nod and muttered under her breath:
“I understand, Teacher.”
