Chapter 339: But The Storm~ ... Is Mine
(Author’s POV)
"Come, I want to introduce you to Mr. Everests," Zachary Johnson urged Myra and Shelly to step forward.
In that moment, Myra felt like her legs were filled with lead. She was reluctant to move even an inch. Shelly muttered, "What are you waiting for? Prof. Johnson is calling for us."
With no choice left, Myra came forward as she walked out from behind Fabian. She stood straight, beside Zachary, trying to look confident, but she instinctively avoided Alaric’s eyes. She knew he had been watching her every move closely; she could feel it, and that made her more uncomfortable.
With pride in his voice and a flashy glint in his eyes, Prof. Johnson started, "This is one of the hardest working, most disciplined and assiduous students of Red Stone School of Business and Finance. She is currently at the top of her class, excelling in all her subjects. She is exemplary, passionate and a star student, Ms. Myra Miracle."
"La crème de la crème," Shelly added as she smiled mysteriously. She was rooting for Myra.
"Absolutely spot on, Ms. Courtney," Zachary said, his tone filled with enthusiasm.
Alaric extended his right hand as he said, his voice came out husky and deep, "Ms. Miracle, nice to meet you. Ms. Miracle?"
Hearing her name from Alaric’s mouth, Myra’s eyes trembled. Her throat felt parched as she forgot how to react. Shelly subtly pushed Myra’s shoulder with hers, pulling her out of her reverie.
With a slight shakiness, Myra extended her hand. As soon as her fingers brushed against Alaric’s palm, she felt a bolt of current, floating from his skin to hers, reaching deep within her very core. Alaric also felt the strange sensation coursing through his entire body. The sudden urge to carry Myra in his arms and take her away with him was getting heavier and heavier in his heart and soul.
As they shook hands, he held her hand firmly in his grip and caressed her dorsal side with his thumb gently. Myra was feeling extremely nervous. She hasn’t uttered a single word yet.
Shelly chuckled and commented, "Myra is too awestruck by Mr. Everests aura that she is left speechless." Zachary joined in with the hearty laughter as well. "Indeed."
In contrast to the two excited beings, Fabian’s expression was icy, bone chilling cold, but his amber eyes were burning like live charcoal. They were fixated on Myra and Alaric’s intertwined hands. If he had supernatural powers, Alaric’s hand would have been burned to a crisp. Not the cat was out of the bag regarding Myra’s identity; he was more annoyed.
In a small, almost inaudible voice, Myra finally spoke, "Nice to meet you, too, Mr. Everests." She tried to pull away her hand, but Alaric was still shaking it.
Fabian, who was getting increasingly frustrated at the sight of it, as there seemed to be no intention from Alaric to let go of Myra’s hand, jumped in to her rescue, "Mr. Everests, this is your first time coming to Red Stone, right? Why don’t I show you around?" He then turned towards Myra and said, "Ms. Miracle, you have a class to attend, I guess. You may take your leave. Ms. Courtney, you too can go." He, very cleverly, tried to send them away.
Myra felt relieved in that moment. She really wanted to avoid Alaric as much as possible, and Fabian, as always, was helping her. She quickly bowed and turned around to go, but only after taking a step, Alaric called out to her, "Wait~ ..."
She halted in her place but didn’t look back, but she could tell but the sound of the footsteps that Alaric was coming towards her. He stood in front of her and said, "Ms. Miracle, why don’t you join us for the campus tour and be my guide?" He was donning a mischievous smirk as he completed his words.
Before Myra could reply, Shelly did on her behalf, "Of course, she would love to."
Arching both his brows, Alaric asked Myra directly, "Would you, love to?"
Shelly was chanting like a mantra, ’Say yes, say yes.’ But before Myra could decline, Fabian dove in again, "That won’t be necessary, as well as appropriate, Mr. Everests. She has class to attend, and I will be there to guide you. You certainly don’t want to disrupt her studies, do you?" The last line was only audible to Alaric as Fabian’s polite smile didn’t falter.
At this time, Oswald, who was busy navigating students out of the auditorium with other professors, joined in. He heard from the part where Alaric had asked Myra to be his campus tour guide. "Ms. Miracle can, of course, join you," he said, his voice filled with finality.
"But Prof. Mitchell~ ..." Fabian was about to object, but Oswald added, "It is my class. I give her full permission. She is free to go."
Oswald may not show it outwardly like Zachary, but he, too, was fond of Myra’s exemplariness. Even a small conversation with someone like Alaric Everests would open countless and endless doors for her in the future. He then extended his hand and introduced himself to Alaric, "Mr. Everests, my name is Oswald Mitchell. I am the professor of Economics. I have read so much about you. It is great to finally meet you in person."
Alaric gave him a formal handshake and said, "Prof. Mitchell, I have read your research paper from the academic journal that was published half a year ago. I must say, I was thoroughly impressed."
Oswald Mitchell, after hearing Alaric’s genuine praise, was on cloud nine. He then recalled the research paper and said, "You must be talking about the one issued about international economics."
"Yeah, correct," Alaric answered. "It was quite resourceful and well detailed."
"Actually, Ms. Miracle assisted me in that," Mitchell stated.
"Ohh, did she?" There was a flicker of surprise in Alaric’s eyes as he glanced at Myra, who had spoken little to nothing and was just standing there like a decoration, listening to everyone else answering on her behalf.
Actually, she wasn’t even surprised by the turn of events now. She recalled a famous poem Wendy once recited from her English language class,
’The dice are thrown, a double six for some.
For me, a one, before the turn has come.
The sun is shining, but the storm is mine,
A tangled path, a broken, bitten vine.
Each silver lining has a darker cloud,
Each hope I whisper, fate will mock aloud. The race is run, but I am always late,A crooked smile upon the face of fate.
’
These few lines perfectly summed up her life situation right now. Fate or destiny or God or whatever was really mocking her out loud. She can finally see it clearly. Because no matter how much she tried to run, the chasing never stopped. In this moment, she felt like she was just spiralling in a circle, seeing no end to it.
Releasing a heavy sigh, Myra finally said, "I will be honoured to help you and be your tour guide." A practiced, perfunctory smile appeared on her pink tinted lips. He then added, as she side stepped, "After you~ ..."
Fabian balled his fists tightly, so tight that if he squeezed any harder, his own hands would start to bleed. But now, after hearing her words, he had no choice but to accept it.
And just like that, the awkward trio of three left the auditorium building.

"So, class, that’s it for today," Dion said as he checked his wrist watch.
"Noooo~ ...." A collective sound of disappointment echoes inside the oil painting class. "Prof. Everests, we haven’t even shown you our artworks yet," someone said.
"Ohhh, that would be easy," saying this, he scanned the class and then pointed out, "You~ ... your name is~ ....?"
Wendy blinked rapidly as she answered, with a stammer, "We~ Wendy Miracle, sir."
"Ms. Wendy Miracle, can you please collect the respective artworks for me and accompany me to my temporary office?" Dion asked, his voice was so polite and tender as a marshmallow.
Wendy’s mouth was agape at his words, but she got up at once and started doing what he told her to do. A lot of girls looked at her with pure envy. After all, no one would want to pass on the opportunity to get close to Dion Everests.
Someone even commented, "Good for you, Wendy. Seize the moment, umm."
Wendy kept her face neutral as she collected the remained pieces and followed Dion out of the class.
As they walked at some distance, Dion spoke, "Wendy~ ..."
Wendy, who was contemplating in her mind whether to ask about Elio or not, was startled by his sudden call. In a loud voice, she said, "YES, SIR."
Dion wrinkled his brows and then started laughing, seeing her reaction. Wendy scratched the back of her neck in embarrassment as she realized her mistake.
"Relax and loosen up. I ain’t gonna eat you," Dion teased her. "Did you already forget our meeting, outside the restaurant? I was there with my brother."
"Of course, I remember. How can I forget?" Wendy was quick to shoot down his words.
He smiled and chuckled, "That’s good then."
