Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers-Chapter 341: That’s My Mother’s Maiden Name

Chapter 341

Chapter 341: That’s My Mother’s Maiden Name
(Author’s POV)
As the sunlight filtered through the various tree branches scattered along the path that led to the Architecture Department building, Myra and Alaric walked side by side. Although the atmosphere was noisy and loud around them, as everyone was looking at them, their eyes filled with obvious curiosity, murmuring and gossiping, the two refrained from uttering anything and just walked in silence. Silence too profound, too pure, neither of them wanted to taint it.
Alaric, for once, was being a gentleman, matching his pace with Myra’s. Though he was only doing it without his own knowledge. And even if he knew, he would, very conveniently, blame it on his wolf.
At some distance, a group of people were murmuring and chatting amongst themselves, though their eyes were on the two parties.
With Alaric’s abilities, he could clearly hear the conversation that was taking place around fifty meters from him, "Nigel, isn’t that your study rival, Myra Miracle? What is she doing there with Mr. Everests? That too all alone," a girl asked. Her words, suggestive.
"Chuck the nonsense up, Brenda. That bitch, my rival~" Nigel Long scoffed as he locked his penetrating gaze on Myra, his eyes turning deadly cold, "... Are you even listening to what you are saying? Does it even make sense, huhh? That low born, shitty girl can’t even be compared to my toenail. Got it. She must be thinking of licking Alaric Everests boots now. After all, .... That’s what she is good at." He said spitefully.
"Nigel is sooooo damn right. Whatever that girl from a humble background has achieved so far is all thanks to her cozying up to Prof. Stephens, Prof. Johnson and Prof. Mitchell, especially Fabian Stephens. No matter how much she tries to hide but the whole uni. knows about their
’not so secret little affair’
. How he picks her up from her house, how they come to campus together, and how he has been helping her with her projects. Someone has even seen Prof. Stephens come out of her house late at night," one of Nigel’s lackeys, named Colt, hurled venomous words towards Myra. The disdain in his eyes was evident.
The girl, although didn’t agree with what Nigel and Colt had said about Myra, but she didn’t comment on it either. After all, Nigel Long was from an elite family as well. Actually, the girl’s father worked under Nigel’s dad, so she didn’t want to offend him in any way.
Alaric’s eyes flashed with red hot fury as they started changing color. He, as well as Alex, was annoyed by the absolute nonsense those scumbags were spouting. As he was about to go take off towards them, Myra, sensing something dangerous, glanced at him.
As soon as she saw Alaric’s eyes, she knew something was wrong. She had witnessed the same scene just before Brave changed into his wolf form, that dreadful night. She instinctively called out to him, her voice shaky, "Mr. Eve~ rests? Mr. Evere~ sts?"
Hearing Myra’s melodious yet scared voice, Alaric snapped out, his sapphires now focused on Myra’s hazels. With a suppressing tone, he asked, "You called for me. Yes, Ms. Bolton .... I mean, Ms. Myra Miracle?"
The peculiarity in his voice was obvious. He was taking a jab at her.
Myra gulped down in nervousness, clenching her jaw tightly at his mocking sarcasm. She had just called out to him so that he wouldn’t lose control in front of everybody else. Because if that happened, it would surely turn into a chaotic mess, a pandemonium.
With a stammering voice, she said, "I~ .... I~ .... After turning around this corner~ .... We will reach the Architecture Department." She avoided him calling her ’Ms. Bolton’ and chose not to comment anything on that.
But Alaric wasn’t the one to let go of things so easily. With a smirk, more of a sneer, he started, "I thought, at the banquet outside the hotel, Prof. Stephens called you by the name, Mira Bolton, isn’t that correct? When did do go through with your name changing ceremony? Not just a name, you even changed your last name. You should have invited us for the humongous occasion." His taunts came out relentlessly, stabbing at Myra’s heart like a poisonous dagger repeatedly.
"That’s my mother’s maiden name," Myra finally spoke. She tried to sound confident, but her voice faltered at the end. "To strangers, I always introduce myself as a Bolton."
"Strangers, huhh? We are strangers," Alaric repeated, his eyes flickering. He felt oddly irked by her words, though that was what he wanted as well. To pretend as nothing more than strangers.
As they turned and reached their destination, she said, "We are here."
Alaric didn’t take his eyes off of her, but Myra didn’t care. She stepped inside the building and asked a student, "Where is the library for your department? May I know?" Her voice was polite and kind, a stark contrast to how she spoke with Alaric, detached and neutral.
"It is on the first floor. Just turn right from the stairs, and after passing two classes, you will see it in the corner," the student told her. He then added, asking her, "By the way, are you new here? I have never seen you in our building."
"I am Myra Miracle from the finance department. Mr. Everests~" she pointed towards Alaric and continued, "Wanted to see your department’s private library."
"Ohhh~ You are the MYRA MIRACLE," he said with a shocking expression. "By the way, you would need an access pass to go inside, as you are not from our major," the guy said. The next second, he took out his own and handed it over to her, "Here~ ... you can use mine."
Myra hesitated, "I always wanted to meet the ace of business finance. You are like my idol," He confessed excitedly. Then the guy pushed the pass into her hand, "Take it. You can just return it to me afterwards. My name is Gavin~ .... Gavin Jackson. I am a first year student. Just like you, I am also a scholarship holder." He said proudly. "Ohh~ .... I am getting late. See you later," saying this, he departed, not giving Myra any chance to refuse.
Alaric has been watching the two from the sidelines. His face was devoid of any real emotion, but inwardly, he was raging. He ascended the stairs and stood beside Myra, "Ms. Bolton, I don’t have all day. I am a busy man. Let’s giddy up." Saying this, he strode inside without her. Myra simply followed.
They reached at the library and surely enough they asked for the pass. Myra showed it to them, and they entered the quiet place.
Unlike the chattery atmosphere outside, the place was filled with tranquillity as there were not many students at that time. And those who were inside were engrossed in their studies deeply to care for anything else.
Alaric marched forward, leaving Myra behind, his body still radiating danger.
Myra gazed at his figure and shook her head, ’Always the same, hot tempered mess.’ She then made her way towards the different sections of books. Her eyes lit up at the sight of them all. As a bookworm, Myra craved reading about various topics. Apart from the general, grand library and the one in her department, she couldn’t access others, so this was a rare opportunity. For someone like Alaric, she wasn’t going to waste it at all.
The shiny covers, the smell of paper, was like adrenaline to her. They were calling out to her. She forgot all about why she was here and started collecting books to read. One, then two, then three. As she turned around to another section, she saw a thick book on the topmost shelf.
She raised her arms to get it, but failed. Then she even jumped two or three times to get it, but failed again. Scanning around, she tried to find the ladder, but there wasn’t one, and she didn’t want to disturb others. With no choice, she got on the tip of her toes and tried one last attempt to reach it. But as her fingertips brushed against the hard cover, someone covered her whole body from behind, pressing her.
Myra’s body stiffened as the familiar voice of Alaric echoed, his breath fanning at her earlobe, "Were you looking for this?" His voice came out in a mere whisper.
His hand brushed Myra, and she felt that surging current once again. She was trapped between his well packed body and the stack of books. No air could pass between them.
With a labourer, almost ragged voice, Myra spoke, though her voice remained low yet sharp, "Mr. Everests, what are you trying to do?"
"I~ .... I am just trying to help," Alaric commented as he took a step back, just enough for Myra to turn around.
Myra narrowed her eyes at him and then shifted her attention back to the book, which was still in Alaric’s hand, "Then~ .... Thank you for your timely help." She said with a straight face and tried to reach out for the book, but Alaric pulled his hand away.
He then gave Myra a wide ass grin and said, "Your words didn’t sound sincere enough. Say it again, with more genuineness. And I will give it."
