Chapter 364: Searching For Him
(Author’s POV)
"Yel .... Yel .... Wake up. We have arrived," Myra tapped her gently.
Lazily peering her eyes open, Yelena mumbled, "Ahh~ .... Got it."
Stretching her limbs, she scanned the area around the hospital entrance, which, as usual, was bustling with patients alongwith their guardians going in and exiting.
Esteria and some nearby places had just entered the monsoon phase, so it was understandable that the hospital was jam packed. People tend to get sick with all sorts of respiratory diseases and infections when the seasons are getting interchanged.
Myra picked up the lunchbox Sandra gave from the back seat. She glanced at Yelena, who, without looking in the mirror, was about to step out as well and said teasingly, "Wipe that drool off, my dear three year old."
Yelena pulled the half opened handle back, tilted the rearview mirror to see the corner of her mouth, as well as her chin, which was plastered with her own saliva.
"Eeeewww~ ....," she quickly took out a few wet wipes and dabbed her face clean until it was shining like a polished marble. She then applied a light candlelight peach tint to her lips, and she was good to go.
Stepping out, she walked to the other side and handed Myra a KN95 mask, "I don’t want either of us to get sick." Saying this, she slipped her own on her face. Myra nodded and wore it as well as they both strode towards the entrance, hand in hand.
Before returning home, Yelena had made arrangements, so Fabian was already shifted from the overcrowded emergency ward to a single person, spacious room, which was on the building’s seventh floor.
As expected, the generous space of all the elevators was crammed with people now. Myra sighed and mumbled, "Let’s take the stairs." "Ahhha~ ... wise decision. About to say the same," Yelena added.
After a strenuous climb, Myra was breathing heavily, her hands on her thighs. Yelena, the perfectly fine one, looked at her and chuckled, "You need to start up exercising more, sweetheart."
"I should," Myra agreed immediately while panting slowly. Her morning routine generally consisted of light jogging with no other physical exercises. So, she was still considered to be a Sedentary fit.
Anyways, they headed to the allotted ward with Yelena leading the way. Standing in front of 704, they both straightened their postures as Yelena knocked on the door. Fabian, after all, was a person of the opposite gender. And neither of them wanted to catch him in an embarrassing moment.
After waiting for five whole seconds, Yelena spoke, "Must be sleeping." Without waiting any longer, she unlatched the door and stepped inside, Myra following behind.
But what they saw made their brows wrinkle. The commodious, neatly arranged VIP room was vacant. The bedding was crinkled, so they just assumed Fabian was in the bathroom.
Setting the lunchbox on the table, Myra sauntered towards the washroom and gave a gentle, light tap, "Fabian~ ...."
Strangely enough, no reply came. Myra knocked again, but the result remained the same. Then, with a loud enough voice, she said, "Pardon me, I will be getting in. Then~" She took a step inside and found there was no one.
"Huhh? Yel, are you sure this is Fabian’s room?" Myra questioned.
"7-O-4, why ask?" Yelena muttered while sitting on the couch.
"Coz, he isn’t here," Myra told her.
"Hein?? What the~ ...." She jolted up from her seat. Then, as if in sync, they both looked at the bed again. To be precise, to the infusion stand beside it. The cannula at the end was marred with blood. The residue staining the floor red.
Realization dawned upon them as Yelena barged out of the room while Myra tried to call Fabian’s number. The ringing echoed, spiking up her anxiety, but there was no sign of anyone picking it up. Nevertheless, she kept repeating the action.
Yelena stalked towards the nurses’ station and asked, her voice filled with urgency, "Where is the patient, Fabian Stephens?"
"Fabian Stephens, you mean the one in seven zero four? He is in his room," the nurse said.
"He is not there. THE ROOM IS EMPTY," Yelena yelled, slamming her hand hard on the counter. She was about to lose her temper and lash out, but Myra came and patted her arm to soothe her.
"How is that possible? The doctor made a visit to him twenty minutes ago. He was still inside the room," the staff personnel perked up from their place and walked briskly to find the ward completely desolate. Seeing that, she sent a message to someone, and within a minute, a male nurse appeared, rushing. "Nurse Travis, aren’t you the patient’s attending nurse? Where have you been?" her tone reprimanding.
The nurse pursed his lips in a thin line, not daring to raise his head. In a guilty voice, he spoke, "I just went to change my scrubs."
The head nurse scrunched up her nose and glared. The lingering scent of smoke on him told another story. But knowing better than to mention it, she only asked, "Where is the patient?" Travis’s eyes darted to the bed, widening. When he left the room, Fabian was sleeping soundly. He had double checked. That was why he dared to laze off. But that lapse could potentially result in his job termination, he could see it.
Stammering, he uttered, "He was~ .... in a deep sleep .... just a moment ago. I just stepped out barely a minute ago."
"It has been five minutes since we came on this floor. No one was here," Myra said, her voice stern.
Yelena was on the verge of blowing up. She tousled her apricot brown hair locks in frustration, "Is this how you take care of your patients? Leaving them all alone, huhh?"
"But ma’am, I only stepped out when he was in a slum~ ...." The nurse tried to explained but Yelena, bone chilling threat landed on him, "Don’t give me that nonsense. Find him now. And if you couldn’t, kiss your job goodbye."
"Ma’am, please relax. He might have stepped out to get some fresh air," the senior one tried to calm Yelena down. "I will ask the security personnel to search for him immediately. Rest assured. Travis~ ...." She then turned to him and said, come with me now."
The security guards on all the floors were alerted immediately. A majority of them started their search for the tall, pale faced guy, with caramel hair and a cleft chin. Soon, the head nurse told the girls, her voice filled with shame, "Ma’ams, we have checked the CCTV footage. Mr. Stephens~ .... He is not in the hospital." She told them all that she saw in the footage. Fabian had very discreetly exited the room when there were hardly any staff or patients on the floor. He took the elevator and, about ten minutes ago, was seen getting into a cab.
"Where could he have gone to?" Myra said concernly. Yelena already knew the answer. She was fairly certain that Fabian would have gone to find out about Jacob Larson. The first thing he did when he woke up was ask about himself. As she wasn’t really sure about it, she didn’t give him an answer. Recalling his expression, her heart sank.
Thinking for a while, she spoke to Myra, "Let’s go~ ...."
"The room’s paym~ ...." before the head nurse could complete her words, Yelena snapped at her while banging her card on the table top, "Here~ .... Deduce it. And be prepared, I will definitely sue your hospital for negligence."
"Ma’am, please. Don’t~" the nurse was about plead, but Yelena cut her off. "We don’t have all the time in the world. Get the shit done as fast as possible."
The head nurse sealed her lips and did what was told. As soon as the work was done, Myra and Yelena wasted no time. They zapped towards the stairs, hastily descending them.

"Do you have to buy so much, Nor?" Alaric asked casually.
"Ummhmm~ .... It is impolite to visit a patient empty handed, Brother Al," Nora nodded with a smile.
Alaric shook his head and added, "But still, a basket full of fruits and a bouquet of Hydrangea. It is a bit too much for a stranger."
"Let her be, Al," Brave spoke while driving the car.
After spending early hours of the morning at the Larson mansion, Alaric and Dion departed the place at around seven. Neither of them spoke about Myra, and understandably so. There were more pressing matters at hand.
When they arrived at the hotel, after having a light breakfast, Nora insisted on visiting Fabian at the hospital. At first, Alaric was strongly against it. He wanted neither Nora nor Brave to go there. From last night’s incident, he had already understood that Yelena, who was Myra’s friend, was with Fabian, who was close to Myra. As soon as he thought this, he pictured Fabian and Myra together, he felt a heavy, suffocating feeling in his chest. But he instantly dispersed these useless thoughts.
But on Nora’s persistence, he decided to join his twin and her. Dion, who was dead tired after too much driving and sleeplessness, remained in the hotel.
"Now, we are going to the hospital. You should redress your wound as well," Nora snapped him back to reality.
