Chapter 374

Chapter 374: Just Shared A~ ... SECRET
Author’s POV)
Soon, Chris returned with Iris Hector following closely behind him. With a graceful, curt bow, displaying obeisance, Iris greeted them, "Elder Richards, Elder Tape, Elder Silver, it’s my honor to meet you in person." Her head still lowered as a mark of respect.
Brian gave Chris a mocking look, as if saying, ’That’s how a proper greeting should be done, trashy human.’
"You may raise your head, Healer," Catherine spoke, her voice filled with assertiveness. Iris did as she was told and waited for her to speak again.
For a brief moment, the room fell into dead silence. Chris and Iris stood in the middle of the living room, awkwardly, while the other three remained seated, leisurely.
Out of the blue, Brian, in a scolding tone, uttered, "Are you airheaded, Shadow?" Chris blinked several times, not knowing what he had done wrong this time. He muttered, his voice low, "Elder Tape~ ...."
"What Brian means is that we need to have a talk with Healer Hector, in private. Can you give all of us some space, umm?" Silvia was back to being her usual, kind self. "We would appreciate it a lot."
Chris was once again in the spotlight. None of them was giving him an easy time. He glanced at Iris, who blinked twice, assuring him. He decided to believe in her, bowed and departed from the scene. Though his curled up fingers told that his heart remained uneasy.
Now that only Vampires were left in the room, Brian commented exaggeratedly, "Ahhhh~ .... The air feels so uplifting, with no outsiders’ presence."
"Stop it. Will you? Why do you always have to be so rude, tskkk?" Silvia remarked, rolling her eyes. She then turned to Iris and started, "So, Iris Hector, how is his majesty doing now? We all are really worried about him?" She came straight to the point.
Without any glitch or hesitation, Iris replied, "Elder Silver, although his majesty is still far from his usual vigorous self ...." She paused midway, making everyone in the room anticipate her next words, "~.... However, he is doing significantly better than last night."
"Ohhh~ ... so you mean, he is awake?" Catherine latched on. "I want to meet him in person."
"He had, but currently, he is under the influence of a healing ritual and is deep in sleep," Iris stated calmly.
Brian took over, "So, when is he going to wake up, huhh, Hector?"
"Quite soon~ ...." Iris spoke, composed again.
Seeing that she wasn’t going to tell them much about Jacob’s condition, Catherine fixed her gaze on Iris, her fangs showcasing a display of authority.
The latter stood there as if she wasn’t the least bit intimidated by her move. But, on the inside, she was screaming for help. Catherine’s ruthlessness was well known. She had witnessed it once when she was young and a human, so Iris was aware of what that lady in a black dress was capable of.
Maybe this was god’s punishment for torturing Fabian like that.
"Ms. Hector, you have been doing pretty well lately," Catherine commented lazily. "Acquiring the title of senior healer at Blood Fangs, Chief Healer for His Majesty. I am quite impressed. Why don’t you teach some of the healers in my Clan, the Crimson Court? Our senior healer, Orias, he would be thrilled to have you as a mentor," she suggested, a seductive smile playing on her maroon painted lips. Her eyes never left Iris’s sight.
Iris flinched at the mention of Orias, but it was just for an attosecond. Still, Catherine noticed the change as her smile only deepened. Iris straightened her back and answered, her tone modest, "I would have loved to, Elder Richards, but right now~ ... my priority and my commitment is with his majesty. Before committing to anything else, I would heal him back to his full, thriving self."
"Ohh, you misunderstood me, Healer Iris," Catherine stood and walked towards her. "Not right now~ .... But when~ ...." She spoke something in her ears as Iris’s eyes widened. Then, without another word, Catherine added, "You may return to your station now."
Iris gulped hard and nodded. She did not waste even a single second and rushed out of the living room, seemingly scared. Seeing her flee away, Brian and Silvia asked simultaneously, "What did you say to her, Ancilla?"
"Nothing much~ .... Just shared a S.E.C.R.E.T." Catherine replied casually.
Chris returned shortly after. He was tense all over.
"Where is that Stephens kid?" Catherine asked all of a sudden.
"Young master~ .... He~ .... is~ .... currently recovering," Chris conveyed, his voice a mere whisper.
Brian started laughing openly, "Recovering? Him? What happened to him, huhh? Did he get weak in the knees or something after showing his bravado last night? Tskkk ... *tut~tut* ... *tut~tut* ... he sure is made of glass. Fragile. Brittle." ’Easy to break, haha,’ he mumbled internally.
"It’s not that, Elder Tape. He is just~ ...." Chris was in the middle of explaining them when they all heard a car’s engine stop outside.
Every eye in the room turned to the main door, and then Brian shifted it back to Chris, saying, "So you called the dogs, uhh?" sneering.
Chris, though a human, understood his meaning. The Everests were here after all.
The gate opened, and in came Brave, followed by Nora and Alaric. The last one to enter the mansion was Dion. Their presence was dominating. Each of them carried themselves with poise and an unflappable manner.
The first person to comment was Silvia, her tone even handed, yet there was a peculiarity in it, "The Lycan siblings are here. Chris, you should have told us in advance that you invited guests. That’s really unfair."
Chris remained mum. He didn’t dare to say anything at that moment.
Brave and Alaric immediately grasped the situation. As one was the former heir and another, the currently serving heir of the Lycan throne, they were quite familiar with the Vampire circle’s internal politics.
Unlike how werewolf successors were decided based on the bloodline, this wasn’t the case with Vampires. They~ ... hardly had any blood relatives, close to none. So, anyone with influence and power could rise to that ultimate, the path to rule all of the Vampire kind.’
