Chapter 378: The Kid? Who?

On the pristine white sheet, with bold black letters, there were two words, ’Silvia Silver.’ He shook his head again and spoke, "I guess now we do need an answer for my earlier question. Isn’t it?"
Everyone was shell-shocked to see Silvia’s name written on it, especially the person in question herself, who was left stupefied by his move. As she was sitting near him, she could clearly see two tiny heart signs around her name, which made her clench her jaw.
Vinicio’s eyebrows arched in amusement as he stated, "Now with my vote, it is a tie. How will we conduct the tiebreaker? Ohhh~ .... I know, I remember~ .... As his majesty cannot, the kid surely can do that in his stead, right?"
He then turned to Chris and questioned, "Where is he? I haven’t seen him since I came?"
All the Everests siblings’ curiosity piqued at his words. ’Kid? What kid is he talking about? There is someone else who holds power apart from them?’ Alaric thought. Brave was looking at Chris, whose expression was complicated. Meanwhile, Dion kept looking at others as their facial changes spoke volumes.
Before Chris could utter even a word, Brian snapped, "The kid has no authority over us whatsoever. A mere human being would decide the outcome for us? Hahhh~ .... Don’t joke around, Cardamone. Neither his vote nor his presence holds any significance in this matter."
Chris pursed his lips as he glanced towards the Everests siblings. They weren’t aware of who ’this kid’ was. Fabian’s original status wasn’t known to many for various reasons, but as things stand, he cannot conceal his identity for long. Maybe~ .... it would be better if they knew who he was and could support him. He thought.
"Why do you seem afraid of that kid? To me, he is a wise guy. I am sure he will vote for the best candidate," Vinicio commented. "So~ ... Secretary Shadow, where is he?"
Chris’s eyes flickered as he told him, "He is in his room~ .... sleeping."
"Sleeping? Him? Now? Vinicio verbalized with surprise.
"Actually, the infirmary doctor had just attended to him. He is running a fever and under the influence of the medicine," Chris explained.
"Ohho~ .... that’s sad. He must have been really stressed because of all this. Poor guy," Vinicio mumbled to himself. "What options do we have now?"
As they were still in the middle of the conversation, the sound of glass shattering echoed inside the living room, making all of them alert. It came from the side where Jacob’s room was located. All of them perked up from their seats, but Chris and the Vampire Elders were the only ones who walked there. The Everests siblings remained in the living room.
’Is this why Secretary Shadow called all of us here?’ Alaric mind linked his siblings. ’To be a witness to their mudslinging at each other?’
’More like catfighting .... Haha,’ Dion added. ’Too much drama~ ....’
’But~ .... Brothers? Who were they talking about? The kid, I mean?’ Nora questioned, her tone curious.
’I have got no idea,’ Alaric replied.
’Me neither. It’s my first time hearing about a kid,’ Brave said.
Outside Jacob’s room, all the Elders stood, eager to burst inside any minute. Although Chris was trying to hold them at bay, "Elder Tape, please~ ... you cannot enter his room right now."
"SHADOW, you, again and again~ .... repeatedly keeps crossing your station," Brian roared. "Let me show you who I am." He took two steps towards Chris before Silvia stopped him, "Brian~ .... He is only doing his job."
As their back and forth was still ongoing, Iris walked out, her tone even and steady, "His majesty wishes to speak with all the Elders."
Brian gave Chris a triumphant look while pushing him out of the way, "Step aside, human." Then, with a humble smile, he gestured for Catherine to step inside first, "Elder Richards, after you."
Maintaining a dignified posture, Catherine walked in, followed by Brian, Silvia and at last Vinicio, who gave Iris a wink before going inside. As Chris was about to go inside, as well Iris held him back, saying, "Secretary Shadow~ .... The ritual energy is still active. You cannot enter His Majesty’s chambers for now."
"Did the master really~ .... ~really wake up?" he asked, his voice a bit scratchy, choked.
"Yes, he did, somehow ... though he is still relatively weak," Iris told him. "I will be going inside then."
He nodded and said, "Please take care of him in my stead." Iris didn’t reply and went inside the room.
The four elders, when they stepped into the room, all of them were eager to see Jacob’s condition with their own eyes. But~ .... his bed was concealed by a canopy veil, which was not to their liking. And none of them could dare to remove it without permission.
They genuflected concurrently and said in unison, "Your majesty, Elder Catherine Richards of the Crimson Court Clan~ ... Elder Brian Tape of the Nocturne Coven Clan~ ... Elder Silvia Silver of the Primus Night Clan~ ... Elder Vinicio Cardamone of the Dark Nightshade Clan~ ... are here at your behest."
For a few seconds, no voice came from the other side. They all glanced each other’s way but didn’t attempt to rise or utter a question. After a five second pause, Jacob’s unusually weary voice echoed, "You~ .... may all ris~e."
They lifted themselves off smoothly. The first one to speak was none other than Catherine, "My King .... how are you feeling now?" her voice laced with feigned concern.
"I am~ .... feel~ing ... better than befo~re, Elder Ric~hards," he replied.
Brian jumped in, "Your majesty, you know how much I, as well as Elder Richards, were devastated to hear the news about the sudden plane crash? How on earth did this happen?"
"Elder Tape, this isn’t the time to spout nonsensical words. Zip your trap," Silvia muttered under her breath. Then, with a polite tone, she spoke to Jacob, "Your majesty, is there anything we can do for you? Your wish is our command."
