Chapter 380: It’s That Guy
(Author’s POV)
"I apologize for that, Young Alphas .... Princess," Chris spoke in a modest voice.
"We understand, Secretary Shadow, no need for you to fret on that. But~ ... by the way, what was the commotion about?" Brave inquired.
"Master~ .... he had just woken up and asked all the Elders to see him in his chamber. They are all inside right now," Chris relayed with a sigh.
"And why did you call for all of our presence, that too so urgently?" Alaric said, his tone casual, yet it held a slight edge to it.
"Young Alpha Alaric, I~ I~ ..." initially Chris fumbled with his words, ".... I have a favour to ask of you all." He started, his voice brimming with earnestness.
"Don’t you think you have way too many favors you have been asking for, umm .... Secretary Shadow?" Dion remarked in his classic, peculiar tone. Last night, Alaric had given him a detailed narration about what had happened at the crash site."
Chris pursed his lips tightly. Of course, he was aware that what Dion said was absolutely correct. He had done that before, and they had helped. But the Everests’ siblings have no obligation to accept his request once again. But that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t give it a try.
After a brief moment, he said, "This wouldn’t be an imposition if the circumstances were not dire~ .... Young Alpha Dion." He was about to get to the point when they heard multiple footsteps approaching them. The sound came from where Jacob’s room was located.
Soon, one after another, the Elders came out.
Catherine’s face was flushed as she stomped out of the mansion without uttering a single word. Brian gave Chris a dirty look, mouthing, ’Human mutts,’ then gazed at the Everests and followed Elder Richards out as well.
Silvia Silver seemed dazed; her steps were slow while Vinicio walked beside her in a chill, laid back manner. He seemed the least bit affected, most relaxed. The Everests’ siblings, as well as Chris, got curious as the latter asked them, "Elder Silver, Elder Cardamone. What had happened? Is the master doing alright? Why did Elder Richards seem so furious? Did~ ... did she have an argument with the master?"
"Inquisitive. Aren’t you, Shadow?" Vinicio commented. "His majesty~ .... To me, he seemed to be doing fine, even a bit energetic." Hearing this, a massive sigh escaped Chris’s mouth. It felt like a huge burden was lifted off. Meanwhile, Vinicio continued, "As for why Catherine stormed out, care to explain it to our curious cat, hmm, Silvia?" He took their names so casually as if they were his friends.
Silvia gave him a sideways look, having no intention to indulge with him. She then shifted her attention towards Chris. In her usual, soft spoken style, she relayed, "His majesty called us to tell us that he has selected the person who will fill his position, in his stead, temporarily."
"Did he~ ....?" Chris mumbled. ’A workaholic is a workaholic, even on the brink of death.’
"Ummhmm~ .... That’s why he called us," Silvia hummed and added, "Umm~ .... Actually, I need to be somewhere. Take care of his majesty as well as yourself, Secretary Shadow." After saying her piece, she departed, not even looking back once.
Now with only Vinicio left, Chris, after much contemplation, dared to ask him, "So~ .... Who was chosen as the acting head, Elder Cardamone?" He had already calculated from Catherine and Brian’s reactions that it was neither of them. That was a point of relief as well.
"Ahhhhh~ .... it is~ ...." He was about to say something, but before that, his phone started ringing. He glanced at the displayed and a sly smile graced his lips. Then, without looking up, he stated, "Shadow, I will be taking my leave now, uhh. See yuhhh later~ .... And~ ... keep an eye on his majesty and tell me if you need anything, hmm, bu~ bye." And just like that, he also exited the scene without revealing the name.
Not just Chris but the Lycan siblings were left dumbfounded as well by his random talk. They were still under suspense regarding who was going to lead the deal they came to Esteria for. Soon, Iris came out, her expression solemn.
"Ms. Hector, what was that?" Chris questioned. "Who did the master assign?"
Iris pressed her lips into a tight line, glanced at the outsiders and spoke, "His majesty had appointed Elder Silver as the head’s aide. As for the chief’s position~ ... it’s the~ ..." she hesitated. "It is~ .... that guy."
It took a minute for Chris to understand who she was talking about. After all, Iris wouldn’t have the nerve to address any of the Elders in that way. When the realization dawned upon him, his eyes widened. ’So, master has finally decided to make a move. I thought he would wait.’
"Secretary Shadow~ .... Secretary?" Nora’s voice brought him out of his inner thoughts.
"Uhhh~ .... Yes, princess?" his tone was deferential and amiable towards Nora.
"What is really going on exactly?" she uttered a bit impatiently. They have been called here by Chris with the reasoning that he had something very important to say to them. But ever since they came to the Larson mansion, they were just playing mere spectators in their wrangling. She just wanted to finish the business here as fast as possible so that she and her brothers could start searching for Myra.
"Princess, I deeply apologize for what has happened. When I gave Young Alpha Brave the call, the Elders weren’t at the mansion. They came here uninvited, so the situation became inevitable," Chris explained. "But~ .... that is the very reason why I asked you to come here."
"Hmm?" The siblings looked at each other, then at Chris with confusion. "What do you mean?"
"Actually, the thing is~ .... there is a special elixir that is needed for the master to regain his former strength," Chris started, his eyes flickering towards Iris.
"What kind of elixir?" Alaric questioned. "Where is it? Tell us?"
To Be Continued . . . . . . .
