Miss Witch’s Devotion Has Gone… Twisted-Chapter 105: Casino

Chapter 105

When entering the casino, Loren covered his face. He had no intention of revealing his identity.
Laila had her own bottom line. If the casino didn't cheat, she wouldn't use her 'cheat' either. But if Loren revealed his identity, the casino wouldn't dare cheat;
they knew how to read the room and adjust their approach.
They understood perfectly well who they could offend and who they absolutely could not.
Laila sat down in front of a machine. It was very simple: you dropped a steel pellet and watched where it landed. Landing right in the center meant the jackpot. Many elementary school gates had these kinds of things. Simultaneously, this was also the type of machine easiest to rig.
Sitting before the machine, Laila didn't move for a long time. Loren thought she was placing a Pursuit Mark on the machine. This kind of machine was also the most convenient for her to 'cheat' with;
she just needed to make the steel pellet guaranteed to hit the center.
But just as Loren was thinking this, Laila spoke up:
"Lend me some money..."
She sounded very awkward saying it. It was she who had been brimming with confidence to come here, yet she didn't have a single coin.
"Sure."
Loren usually spent plenty on various 'greasing the wheels' and networking. He was even less likely to be stingy with his own people. Loren directly shoved a pouch of gold coins at her, all ten-gold denominations, the largest currency unit.
Laila, taking the money, froze on the spot. It wasn't that this was the first time she'd seen so much money, but the last time she saw this much was also with Loren, back when Loren took the money allocated to him by the King of Bardo. That time was when Laila saw that much money all at once.
She just hadn't expected Loren to give her this much, instantly feeling that Loren truly didn't treat her as an outsider.
"This much is enough for me."
Laila took out one ten-gold coin, stretched her limbs a bit, and exchanged it for several steel pellets.
This also varied by bet size, but the odds were the same. The more you bet, the more you could lose in one go.
Laila's initial bet was one gold. She casually dropped the steel pellet. After being obstructed by many pins, the pellet fell into a slot signifying a double.
Laila wasn't excited about this. She tossed in four more pellets, but this time her luck wasn't as good. Only one hit the 'return half' slot;
the rest were wasted.
But when the fifth pellet went in, it directly hit the jackpot, multiplying by ten.
"Continue!"
Laila's mood remained calm. She continued dropping pellets into the machine. This time, Laila employed some technique;
most of the pellets moved towards the jackpot area. Yet, even so, not a single one hit.
There was even one that looked like it was about to fall into the jackpot, but its descent trajectory seemed a bit abnormal.
Seeing this, Laila finally showed a smile. This was what she had been waiting for.
She only had one steel pellet left in her hand. But Laila remained confident. She directly dropped the pellet into the machine. This time, the pellet headed straight for the jackpot. Sure enough, just before falling into the jackpot hole, the pellet's trajectory shifted, but was soon pulled back by another, stronger force, ultimately landing successfully on the jackpot. Even the staff member observing nearby was stunned for a moment.
"Continue. This time, the bet is ten gold."
Laila gave Loren a thumbs-up and continued dropping pellets into the machine.
She was using her ability. Loren knew it clearly. It was just a bit too blatant, which didn't match her usual style.
She hit the jackpot again. Ten gold became one hundred gold. With that money now, Laila could buy several cats of expensive breeds.
"Continue! This time, the bet is one hundred gold!"
Watching Laila getting carried away, the staff member was truly panicked this time and immediately fled.
"..."
Loren also didn't know why Laila was so carried away this time. In the end, he had no choice but to remove his disguise, revealing his original face.
Sure enough, this time Laila hit the jackpot again. One hundred gold became one thousand gold. Excited, she threw an arm around Loren's neck, pointing at the machine and saying:
"Am I awesome or what?"
"Awesome."
Loren gave Laila a thumbs-up. Suddenly, Laila's expression turned serious. She looked behind her. A group of people was approaching with menacing intent.
At this moment, Laila finally realized something. She had been solely focused on showing off her ability to Loren but had forgotten this would attract danger.
Instinctively, she stepped in front of Loren, shielding him. Her hand was already on the gun hidden inside her trench coat. To conceal the gun, she had specifically worn a trench coat over her clothes.
"Who dares to cheat here... uh... Master Mentor, are you... enjoying yourself?"
The leader of the group initially had a face full of rage, seemingly ready to skin the cheater alive. But upon seeing Loren's face, he immediately became obsequious, the thick flesh on his face bunching up together.
"Not bad. It's just that your place here isn't very clean..."
Loren stood up, once again positioning himself protectively in front of Laila, his tone aggressive.
Hearing this, the newcomer immediately put on an angry expression again:
"My place has always been fair and just. If I catch the person ruining our reputation, I definitely won't let them off lightly..."
At this point, he suddenly changed tack, asking the staff member who had stayed behind to watch Loren:
"How much did the Master Mentor win?"
"O-one... one thousand gold..."
Hearing this, he directly waved his hand grandly:
"Hurry up and cash out five thousand gold for the Master Mentor. Due to equipment malfunction, we failed to let the Master Mentor enjoy himself to the fullest. It is our dereliction of duty."
As he spoke, he looked pained, but to curry favor with Loren, it was worth it. If Loren really filed one , whether he himself could survive would be a question, let alone this casino.
Simultaneously, he attributed the entire cause to equipment malfunction. What kind of malfunction could a machine that wasn't even connected to electricity have? It was all an excuse. But to make Loren believe it verbally, he directly multiplied Loren's chips by five.
This was also a plea for Loren not to continue playing. If things went on like this, the casino would eventually be unable to pay, and they wouldn't dare accuse Loren of cheating.
If they accused Loren of cheating today, tomorrow the Scarecrows would be knocking on their door.
"Alright then, I'll be leaving now. Remember to fix your equipment."
Seeing Loren relent, he finally breathed a sigh of relief and respectfully escorted Loren and Laila out of the casino.
Five thousand gold was a lot, but fortunately, this world still had checks, so they didn't have to carry that many gold coins while walking.
"You made so much money, but you don't look very happy?"
Laila held the check in her hand, but there was no joy on her face:
"Following you around all this time, eating your food, drinking your drinks... it makes me feel like I'm not very useful. And I also want to help you with things...
"I thought you loved money, wanted to help you earn some... but in the end, I still had to rely on you stepping in..."
Laila was still speaking her mind directly. Loren could guess her thoughts.
"Hey, we're bros, aren't we? As long as I'm with you, I'm pretty happy. That's enough."
"..."
Laila didn't speak, just followed behind Loren.
