The airplane flew through the night sky.
Alex sat beside the window, his posture relaxed, but his eyes were sharp.
Looking down, he could barely recognize his own planet.
Before, when he first came out, he was running from the Mechalyte.
He never had time to really look at the world.
Most of what he saw was wasteland.
Only a few patches of green survived.
High towers filled the horizon in rigid lines.
Between them, ruined cities scattered covered with plants.
Aira sat beside him.
Her hands were folded on her lap.
Darius sat across them with two attendants behind him.
He looked calm, but his eyes kept flicking toward Alex.
"Not everything is like this," Darius said at last.
"Despite what the map says, some dark zones and red zones are still out of Mechalyte control."
Alex turned his head slowly.
His gaze landed on Darius.
"Are you enemy or friend?"
Darius blinked once.
"I should be the one asking you that, young man," Darius said.
"Who are you? I'm sure I've never seen you here before."
Alex did not answer.
He let his aura slip out.
It was like cold water seeping into a room through cracks.
Then it surged.
The pressure filled the cabin.
The airplane shuddered as if it had flown into a sudden storm.
The lights flickered.
One of Darius's attendants stiffened, then collapsed.
The other tried to stand, then dropped to his knees before fainting.
The pilot's breathing turned ragged over the intercom.
The co-pilot said something panicked, then cut off mid-sentence.
Darius's face went pale.
Cold sweat formed on his temple.
"When the Mechalyte came after humanity," Alex said, voice low.
"Were you on their side or not?"
"Alex, calm down," Aira said quickly.
Her voice was filled with fear.
The plane vibrated harder.
A warning alarm began to sound.
The nose dipped slightly.
Aira grabbed the armrest.
She was sure that if this went on for a few more seconds, the plane would crash.
Alex didn't care.
His killing intent sharpened.
Darius swallowed.
The plane jolted again, as the altitude dropped.
"Seems you cannot answer me," Alex said.
"In that case, die."
He raised a finger.
Qi gathered at the tip.
A small point of light formed like a grain of rice.
It grew.
In seconds, it was the size of a marble.
Then the size of an apple.
"No, no! No!" Darius shouted.
"I'm not a traitor!"
"You say that," Alex replied.
"But you're sitting here as one of the city lords."
Darius's voice broke.
"If no one stays inside, we will have no information
Do you know how hard it is to fight the Mechalyte?
Almost every hunter that survives gets turned into a human battery,
Those who escape either run to the moon, hide in the dark zones, or become someone like me."
The plane shook again.
Aira's face turned whiter.
"Alex," she said again.
"Please."
Alex's finger did not lower.
His qi kept condensing.
"If it's not you, then who?" Alex asked.
Solomon?"
"No! There's no way the president is behind this.
I don't know the details.
But it's one of the world leaders."
Darius said fast.
The same group that always became a hindrance for the Association.
Some hunters support them too."
His hands trembled.
"But in my knowledge, the real high-level hunters are fighting against it
If they weren't, we would have been wiped out long ago."
Alex studied him.
"Tell me more, in detail."
Darius almost laughed from relief and terror at the same time.
"Then stop this first!" he shouted.
"I might survive, but my people will die!"
The plane dropped another hundred meters.
The alarm became a continuous shriek.
Aira stared at Alex like she was seeing a stranger.
Her lips parted, but no words came out.
Alex finally moved.
The qi sphere vanished like it had never existed.
His aura spread out covering the whole plane.
The plane begin to rise up again.
Aira's chest rose in a shaky breath.
Darius slumped back in his seat.
His eyes were still wide, but he was alive.
Alex leaned back like nothing had happened.
"Then where are those people?" he asked.
"The so-called world leaders. All of them should still be alive, right?"
Darius wiped his face.
"The last information I heard is that they built a colony on another planet in this system," he said.
"They live lavishly there with their friends and family."
"So all the traitors are there," Alex said.
"That's convenient."
Darius gulped.
He could feel the chill in Alex's words.
'Just who is this man? I've never heard of a hunter with power like this before.'
It wasn't that he had no information about Alex.
It had just been too long.
A lot of time had passed, and Alex had changed a lot.
His current level was something Darius could not even imagine.
If this were still the Hunter Association era, then with this kind of power, Alex could crush every top hunter alone.
That thought alone made Darius' throat dry.
"At that time, I had just joined as a hunter," Darius said.
"I was busy learning the new mana cultivation method when suddenly all the technology we had started glitching.
Robots stopped their work, then started attacking us, Factories went silent, then turned into slaughterhouses."
Communication devices failed across the board.
Short-range, long-range, and even the encrypted lines went dark.
It did not just stop.
It started feeding fake information.
Emergency alerts contradicted each other.
Maps changed, casualty counts changed, and evacuation routes led people straight into ambush.
At first, everyone thought it was sabotage.
But the attacks spread too fast.
Cities fell into panic.
Supply chains collapsed overnight.
The Association tried to restore order.
But the world leaders moved faster.
"They declared the Association a threat to global stability," Darius said.
"Then they led their private armies and state forces to attack our bases."
Alex's eyes narrowed.
"People were confused," Darius said.
"Some believed the leaders. Some believed us. Most just wanted someone to blame."
That was how the civil war began.
It lasted almost a year.
The world was already in chaos when the Mechalyte arrived.
The fight turned one-sided.
Humanity had no chance to fight back.
