Chapter 155: Chapter 154: Serena, I Was Wrong
"Ethan Grant, enough is enough!"
As his words fell, Serena Sullivan’s fury surged to her head, and she questioned coldly.
Ethan Grant didn’t immediately answer; he quietly gazed at the angry Serena Sullivan, his lips parted, with so many things he wanted to say to her, but ultimately only six words came out.
"Take care of you!"
"This lifetime."
Take care of her, for a lifetime?
Upon hearing these words, Serena felt not a trace of sentiment; on the contrary, her heart was torn apart by these six words, pain surged, bloodied, causing her eyes to redden once again.
"Heh..."
She looked at the eyes that only reflected her face, laughing amusingly.
"Mr. Grant, don’t you like Zoe Quinn? Isn’t she the one you want to marry?"
"What is it? Did you discover her true nature, or was it seeing my legs that made you feel guilty?"
Serena looked into Ethan Grant’s eyes, which turned dim, and asked mockingly.
The wedding, Willow Yarrow, The Grant Corporation’s chief, the ’Devotion’ series—all these things, for her not to understand that Ethan Grant orchestrated them by now would make her a fool.
"I don’t like her."
As Ethan Grant spoke, he slowly squatted by the bedside, looking up at Serena Sullivan’s reddened eyes, his heart aching intermittently.
"Serena!" he called softly, with so many things he wanted to say.
He knew Serena’s nature well; if she had known his intentions from the start, she would likely have kept her distance, never seeing him again.
Without giving Ethan Grant a chance to speak, Serena smiled with pursed lips, "Mr. Grant, did you misunderstand something?"
Her eyes grew even redder, yet ironically dry, with no tears able to fall.
Serena turned her head, looking at the window before her, the sunlight outside was nice, illuminating the room with warmth; yet she felt as though she was submerged in ice, her hands under the blanket lightly trembling from the cold.
"Leave, I want to rest."
She didn’t need anyone’s care, least of all Ethan Grant’s.
Ethan Grant didn’t continue speaking; he slowly stood up, glancing at Serena Sullivan, who ignored him from the bed, and said warmly, "Alright, I’ll be outside."
His change didn’t make Serena happy; as he opened the door to leave, she said lightly, "I didn’t come back to cling to you!"
To love someone wholeheartedly, to love till despair, how could she dare to continue.
She returned because she hated him!
She wished he would experience that terrible car accident, wished him to lie helplessly in a pool of blood, with nothing to do but listen to the busy signal on the other end of the phone, wished he spent days in a wheelchair, mocked, manipulated, even believed himself to be nothing but a cripple.
"Alright!"
Ethan Grant paused, turning his head to see Serena Sullivan staring blankly out the window, and responded with one word.
The room’s door closed, footsteps faded, the tears swirling in Serena’s eyes still didn’t fall; it hurt so much, she bit her lip forcefully until it tasted of blood, finally feeling the pain in her heart recede, everything returned to peace.
Outside the door, Ethan Grant said he would accompany her, really just leaning against the wall outside the guest room, head bowed, like a child who had done wrong.
The words he had wanted to say to Serena were left unsaid, he wanted to say,
"Serena, it’s my fault, I was wrong!"
