Chapter 251: Chapter 250: For Him, It’s Enough
On this journey back, whether getting on or off the car at Willow Yarrow’s bedroom, Ethan Grant didn’t use a wheelchair and held Serena Sullivan tightly.
He placed her gently on the bed, Serena spoke softly, "Please ask Anna to come in, thank you."
Her polite words made Ethan, who had just straightened up, pause for a moment, as the light in his eyes dimmed suddenly.
"Serena, let’s talk."
"Talk about what!"
Serena curled her lips into a smile, raised her head, and her eyes looked through Ethan towards the outside window.
Night descended, Solaria was shrouded in darkness, even though the whole city was illuminated by lights, to Serena, night remained night.
"I’m a bit tired."
She had nothing to discuss with Ethan.
As she spoke, she lay down, using the quilt to cover her body and face.
Talk! What is there to talk about!
Even she herself didn’t know what she wanted!
Ethan didn’t turn and walk away; he looked at Serena, who ignored him, and spoke lightly, "First Zoe Quinn, then Ruth Hale, the next is probably Joel Quinn."
Serena didn’t reply.
"Am I the last one?"
Ethan asked again, but all he received was silence.
"If it’s me..."
He paused, his lips curling into a bitter smile, "That’s quite alright!"
Serena’s last revenge was against him, how great!
He feared, even this bit of revenge, Serena wouldn’t give him.
She was by his side, but her heart was lost four years ago, she wouldn’t sincerely smile at him, let alone say she liked him again.
"Serena."
Ethan’s heart ached, he wanted to say something, but as before, he couldn’t utter a single word.
Finally, standing by the bedside, he sighed softly, lingered for a moment, then turned to leave the room.
Once certain he had left, the surroundings returned to silence, Serena then lifted the quilt, her beautiful eyes first filled with laughter, gradually, the joy faded, sorrow and pain slowly engulfed her eyes entirely, reaching deep into her heart.
Anna Morgan asked, Finn Chandler asked, Serena, what did you come back for!
If she were to say, to walk peacefully towards the end of this lifetime! To walk without regrets!
Ethan Grant sat at the computer desk, the screen’s light slowly illuminating his surroundings.
He didn’t like the night, yet stubbornly didn’t turn on the lights.
In this dim world, when pain hit, he felt he was truly alive.
The folders in the computer were opened, passing photo after photo, all of Serena Sullivan.
At the beginning, she smiled brightly at the camera, and them standing together, the happiness in her eyes was clearly visible.
As time went on, photo after photo showed her sitting in a wheelchair.
These photos were ones he began having someone take two years ago.
Many, many of them.
Two years ago, he started controlling The Grant Corporation, secretly investigating her whereabouts behind the Grant Family’s back.
About everything concerning her, her absence from Solaria, coupled with her reclusiveness, resulted in few photos being taken.
To him, it was enough, yet still far from sufficient.
Ethan slowly clicked through, one by one, the expressions of Serena in the photos were almost the same, she smiled with pursed lips, but each photo was also the same, no matter how beautiful her face smiled, that smile never gathered in her eyes.
He didn’t know how to make her happier, nor did he know how to keep her from leaving, to stay.
Captivity or threats, he couldn’t bear to see her hurt anymore!
Just like this, having her by his side was enough.
