Chapter 253: Chapter 252: He Told Me to Be With Him
Serena said "Hmm" and let the maid go outside, leaving just her and Claire Sullivan in the office.
The mother and daughter sat there so calmly, something that hadn’t happened in years.
In four years, Claire Sullivan never came to find her; how could they possibly chat together!
"I wrongly accused you."
As soon as Claire Sullivan spoke, this was what she said, which took Serena Sullivan by surprise.
Serena didn’t answer; she watched Claire Sullivan serve a bowl of hot soup and place it in front of her.
"It’s a bit hot." Serena didn’t take it. She lowered her head, looking at the light bone broth, and smelling its aroma, she indeed wanted to drink it.
This was made by Claire Sullivan!
"Yes, wait a bit before drinking." Claire Sullivan smiled and then softened her voice. "Four years ago, it was Zoe who plagiarized your work."
"I..."
Claire Sullivan didn’t know what to say, she looked at Serena with guilt.
"Oh!" Serena curled her lips, smiled lightly; it was rare for Claire Sullivan to understand.
"You believed it!"
Four years ago, when the video evidence was thrown in front of her, she actually didn’t believe it.
Because she was his daughter!
Perhaps because of his daughter, she believed Ruth Hale and Zoe Quinn’s words.
It wasn’t that she didn’t believe in Serena’s skill and talent, it was that she didn’t believe in the genes left by that man.
This reason was quite laughable.
"Serena, I’m sorry." Claire Sullivan’s voice faded away. Now, realizing her mistake, her heart was filled with unspeakable pain.
This daughter, she no longer knew how to interact with.
"I shouldn’t have doubted you."
Claire Sullivan continued, her gaze falling on Serena’s immobile legs, reaching out to hold Serena’s hands.
Serena saw the moisture in Claire Sullivan’s eyes but didn’t speak.
Even though Claire Sullivan believed now that she hadn’t plagiarized Zoe Quinn’s work four years ago, Serena didn’t feel particularly joyful.
After so much time had passed, her heart was already deeply wounded, returning to apologize and feel guilty now wouldn’t erase that crack.
"Serena, from now on, I’ll take good care of you."
"No need."
Serena withdrew her hand from Claire Sullivan’s grasp, "I’ve been doing just fine all these years without your care."
On the contrary, returning to Solaria and frequently encountering Claire Sullivan made her even more uncomfortable.
"Serena."
Claire Sullivan looked at her own empty palm, tears in her eyes, she looked up at Serena. "I know I completely broke your heart."
"Four years ago, when I heard about your accident, I wanted to come back."
When she received the call, she was stunned on the island.
While Serena was in the surgical room, Claire spent a long time alone in the hotel’s music room.
No matter how much you don’t care, when a part of you falls, it’s impossible not to mind! But on that day, she received another piece of news.
"So you’re saying, in the future, you’ll believe what I say."
Claire didn’t think much and solemnly nodded.
Serena smiled faintly, turned her head to look out the window, and softly said, "Four years ago, while I was resting at home, Joel Quinn suddenly barged into my room."
As soon as Serena spoke the first sentence, Claire Sullivan’s expression changed. She looked at Serena with some confusion and incomprehension.
Why bring up past matters?
"He said, I was abandoned by Ethan Grant, everyone in Solaria knew, and with the accusation of plagiarism in The Brilliance Competition, no good man would want me, so I might as well be with him!"
"Serena!"
Claire Sullivan raised her voice, displeased, not wanting to hear these words.
Serena didn’t stop; she watched as anger began to color Claire Sullivan’s face, curled her lips, and continued, "I smashed the bedside lamp on his shoulder and took the chance to escape the room, running into Zoe Quinn."
