Chapter 266: Chapter 265: Life and Death Are Fate
All around, the relatives were swayed by Zoe Quinn’s words, gossiping about Serena Sullivan’s lack of filial piety. Ethan Grant had heard them and interrupted Claire Sullivan and the old master, his voice turning cold as he shouted.
These two words were directed at the gossiping relatives, as well as Zoe Quinn.
"Ethan brother!"
Zoe Quinn was extremely aggrieved, but her tears had no effect on Ethan. Seeing Serena Sullivan going to open the hospital room door, she tried to stop her but was pushed away by Ethan, who was consumed with anger.
Ethan stared coldly at Zoe Quinn. If she weren’t a woman, he would have slapped her for those words she had just spoken.
Ethan was blocking Zoe Quinn over there, while Serena Sullivan had already reached the hospital room door. She raised her hand but couldn’t reach the lock. Just as she was about to call for assistance, a man’s large hand stretched over first.
Serena thought it was Ethan. Looking up, she saw a familiar yet unfamiliar face.
"Quickly, go in."
The man, in his forties, had a gentle face full of anxiety. After helping Serena open the door, he followed her inside.
Serena thought he looked somewhat familiar but had no time to ask about his identity; anyone who could enter this hospital room must know her grandfather.
Inside the hospital room, the cries from within were even clearer. The middle-aged man swiftly pushed Serena inside.
"Will you listen to me just this once?"
On the bed, the old master said with all his strength.
Claire Sullivan did not answer, holding the old master’s hand and crying sadly.
Joel Quinn stood by the side, wiping away tears.
They both heard the commotion, turned their heads, and saw Serena and the middle-aged man, momentarily stunned.
It wasn’t surprising Serena was there; what surprised them was the middle-aged man’s presence, especially for Joel Quinn.
"Serena, you’ve come."
The old master saw Serena and weakly said.
Serena wheeled herself over, looking at the emaciated old master, whose eyes seemed dark and hollow. Her heart ached, and tears welled up.
"Grandpa!"
The old master didn’t respond. He smiled at Serena, then looked at the middle-aged man at the foot of the bed.
"Song is here too."
He remembered something, turned his head to look at the crying Claire Sullivan, his voice slowing and saying quietly, "Just missing one..."
"Everyone’s here."
"Dad." Claire understood these words. Her voice was anxious, "You want to see him, I brought him."
"It’s too late."
The old master’s voice became slow. Claire looked at him like that, and her heart ached even more. Just as she was about to say something, the old master slowly closed his eyes, and Claire felt the hand she was holding growing colder.
She was stunned, knowing why.
Another wave of tears fell from her eyes. Joel Quinn stepped forward and softly said to Claire Sullivan, "Claire, Dad is gone."
His own tears followed.
Claire Sullivan still held the old master’s hand, sobbing sadly, "I’m sorry, I let you down."
"Grandpa!"
Sitting in the wheelchair, Serena saw the old master lose his breath just like that. She called softly, turned her head to hear Claire Sullivan crying intensely, wanting to say something but finally said nothing. She turned herself around and wheeled towards the door.
The atmosphere in the room was so sad and oppressive; she didn’t like it.
The people outside also heard the commotion inside. They wanted to rush in but dared not because Ethan was blocking the way.
Serena came out, her eyes visibly red. Ethan saw her and said nothing, moving to push her aside.
Zoe Quinn rushed in, her cries echoing as she called out, "Grandpa, Grandpa."
