Mundane Saint-Chapter 50 – Quietly entering the city

Chapter 50

Wu Jie was on the verge of tears.
He had backing, but if someone else's backing was even stronger, provoking such a person was akin to having a death wish.
And he felt he hadn't lived long enough yet.
Wu Rong sighed, "You reckless fool, it's fortunate that young lady showed mercy this time and only cut off your hand. Otherwise, even if she had killed you today, there would be nothing I could do to change it!"
Wu Jie shivered, thoroughly frightened now. His legs trembled uncontrollably, making it hard for him to sit still, as if all the blood in his body had turned cold.
But why did a genius suddenly appear out of nowhere?
And judging by the direction she came from, she seemed to live in Cloud Spirit City. Yet, within dozens of miles around, any talented young men or women would have been taken in by the Nianling Sect long ago for training. Every two years, the sect elders descend the mountain to select new disciples, and logically, they would be eager to join the Nianling Sect.
After all, the Nianling Sect is the leading sect in this region, with deep foundations and abundant resources to offer.
"So, what should we do now?"
Wu Rong frowned and said, "The girl who injured you has an extraordinary background, and you were the one who provoked her first. We have no justification in this matter. It seems I must personally make a trip..."
When the opponent's strength is unknown but likely stronger than his own, he hoped to resolve things through reason.
He didn't want to inadvertently offend a powerful individual or major force because of this wastrel. Even if this matter reached the ears of the Nianling Sect's leader, it would be a huge problem. He had to resolve it privately and quickly.
Wu Rong raised his hand, took a drop of blood from Wu Jie's wound, and carefully sensed it.
"Hmm, the girl who injured you lives south of Cloud Spirit City."
He carefully sensed the lingering sword energy, extending his spiritual sense, and traced it to Qin Yiyao's location.
"South of Cloud Spirit City?"
"Isn't that place just full of ordinary people? There's not even a decent power there, just a bunch of ants."
Wu Jie muttered.
In truth, the south of Cloud Spirit City was quite a mixed place. Since it was not far from the Cloud Spirit Forest, many rogue cultivators mingled in the south, partly for convenience and partly because the west, north, and east of the city were the territories of the three major families, where rules had to be followed, and few cultivators liked to follow rules.
These three families weren't particularly formidable, especially compared to the Nianling Sect, and the Cloud Spirit City Lord's mansion didn't really care, as long as they collected enough tribute each year to hand over.
So the south of the city was chaotic, with many ordinary people and quite a few rogue cultivators.
Looking at his grandson, who had no sense in his head, Wu Rong sneered, "Hmph, what do you know!"
"In this world, there are always hidden experts living among the common folk. Back when I was training alone, my cultivation was stuck at the peak of the Elemental Infant stage, unable to progress. Fortunately, when I passed through a small town, I met a tea house owner. I thought he was an ordinary person, but with just a few casual pointers, I made a breakthrough."
Wu Rong's eyes darkened as he spoke.
Wu Jie was stunned; he had never heard this story before.
"There are always people stronger than you, and if you continue to act recklessly, one day, it won't just be your hand that gets cut off!"
His grandfather's words were full of warning, making Wu Jie wilt like a frostbitten eggplant, his eyes lowered to hide the fear in his pupils.
Wu Rong didn't think there were many hidden experts in the world, but it just so happened that there was one in Cloud Spirit City, and this wastrel had encountered that expert's disciple... It all seemed quite strange. But if he didn't get to the bottom of it, Wu Rong would be restless.
If that girl had a powerful backer, and she ed this incident, the other party might come directly to demand an explanation. The best outcome would be Wu Jie losing his life; the worst would be both he and Wu Jie losing theirs, ending the Wu family line.
Or perhaps it was just a coincidence, and the girl was a rogue cultivator with only a not particularly strong master. In front of the Nianling Sect, they might just be small fry...
What was the truth?
Wu Rong felt he had to make the trip.
With this thought, he wasted no time and set off immediately.
Traveling from the Nianling Sect's mountain gate to Cloud Spirit City took only a quarter of an hour with his Body Fusion stage cultivation.
Wu Rong carefully concealed his aura, changing his attire before leaving. Now he looked like an ordinary old landlord. He didn't want to reveal his presence or attract too much attention, as he wasn't sure if he was there to demand an explanation, fight, or humbly apologize for his grandson's actions to seek forgiveness.
If he accidentally exposed his identity, as the third elder of the Nianling Sect, bowing and apologizing in person would be... Wu Rong felt he had to maintain some semblance of dignity.
He followed the lingering sword energy to a street that didn't seem particularly busy.
Wu Rong's eyes lit up slightly. The source of the sword energy was at the end of the street, in an ordinary-looking building with a sign above the entrance that read "Gu Family Medicine Hall."
"Hmm? Why does the writing feel..."
He muttered to himself, feeling a faint sense of something hidden in the four large characters on the sign, as if there was an almost imperceptible power flowing through them.
But he couldn't discern anything more.
Wu Rong approached and examined the place. The medicine hall was neither big nor small, but inside, a young man was treating patients.
He seemed to be in his early twenties, with a handsome face and dressed in green. He carefully inquired about the patients' symptoms, using silver needles to prick their acupoints and patting their chests a few times.
Finally, Wu Rong watched as he wrapped the prescribed medicine in paper and handed it to the patient.
The patient thanked the young man and left the medicine hall, passing by Wu Rong without noticing him.
Wu Rong had concealed his entire aura, making it impossible for ordinary people to sense his presence, as if he had vanished. Even cultivators with slightly weaker cultivation would find it hard to detect him.
Wu Rong wasn't concerned about the patient but rather the young man... He seemed to be the owner of the medicine hall.
His spiritual sense swept over the young man, probing back and forth, but Wu Rong couldn't detect any cultivation aura from him.
Yet he didn't jump to conclusions, thinking the young man must be an ordinary person.
"If even my Body Fusion stage cultivation can't see through him... Could he be at the Tribulation Crossing stage?"
Wu Rong frowned in thought.
But then, the young man, standing by the medicine cabinet and sorting herbs, spoke indifferently, "Come in, why are you standing outside?"
Wu Rong was shocked!
Had he already been discovered?
