My Ability Pool is Superior-Chapter 23: Caught Red-handed

Chapter 23

This tent was splattered with bloodstains, and most of the bloodstains on the tent were radiating outward.
Several army-green beddings were soaked through with blood, and even after so much time, blood could still be wrung out. The entire scene looked like it had been deliberately arranged with great effort by a perverted murderer, making one’s scalp numb.
One thing to make clear is that about 70% of the human body is liquid, but these liquids are not all blood. Normal blood volume only accounts for 7% to 8% of body weight.
To create a scene like this, it would probably require nearly thirty jin or more of blood.
In other words, the blood of the six people living in the tent was probably all here.
“Too atrocious! Seal this place off first and make sure to find the corpses for me.”
That calm voice sounded even colder: “Also, Xiao Li, take people and gather the nearby citizens for inquiry. Hah, I don’t believe six living people could just vanish into thin air?”
Soon, several footsteps appeared outside the tent where Lu Bai was.
Splash~
The curtain was forcefully lifted by someone.
Two fully dressed soldiers quickly entered and knocked on the tent with their gun stocks.
“Get up quickly.”
After waking up startled, Gao Pangzi glared with bloodshot eyes and cursed angrily: “What the hell? Can’t people sleep anymore?!”
His curse went unanswered by anyone; instead, it helped wake up the others in the tent.
Lu Bai silently got up and sat straight.
One of the dark-skinned soldiers waved his hand: “All put on your clothes, hurry up.”
“Soldier sir, did something happen?” The skinny youth rubbed his eyes, his voice still full of weakness.
“Less nonsense, move faster.”
……
The sky at this moment was just barely getting light.
More than ten citizens were sparsely gathered in a circle on the open ground, some male and some female, but everyone’s expression looked somewhat irritable.
No way around it; no matter who was forcibly woken up like this, their mood wouldn’t be good.
What’s more, no one had told them what happened.
Inside the yellow tape, Zhou Zongming smoked with a grave expression.
The hand holding the cigarette pointed at several nearby tents as he inquired: “This, this, and that one over there—all present?”
Fully six people, and half a platoon of soldiers had searched nearby for half a day with nothing to show.
No other clues could be found in the tent either—not even the number of murderers could be determined, and not a single suspicious footprint was discovered.
It couldn’t be that someone really carried six corpses around everywhere, could it?
“Company Commander, everyone’s here.”
The ing soldier was also somewhat disappointed.
If a citizen had really gone missing suddenly, they could at least narrow down the suspects somewhat.
Zhou Zongming threw the cigarette butt on the ground: “All questioned?”
“Questioned. No one heard any movement when it happened.”
“Six people, killed off without making any sound.”
Zhou Zongming gave that soldier a sideways glance: “Can you do it?”
That soldier gave a stiff smile: “Honestly, if they’re all asleep, it shouldn’t be hard.”
“And after? What about after letting the blood out, bundling up and carrying away six corpses.”
“Uh, that wouldn’t work.”
That soldier thought for a moment and added: “Company Commander, do you suspect more than one murderer?”
“Definitely a pro anyway… damn!”
Halfway through speaking, Zhou Zongming suddenly noticed a figure huddled by the tent curtain, craning his head hard to peer inside.
This figure was naturally Lu Bai.
He had been staring at the tent interior for a good while.
The blood on the bedding was distributed unevenly; some had solidified into blood clots, and some had been naturally squeezed into blood bubbles, making it pitted and uneven.
It was practically like a pile of multigrain pancakes coated on the surface with ketchup.
No matter how you looked at it, it didn’t seem like the work of an ordinary person.
“Hey! What are you doing, kid?”
Zhou Zongming hurried over and grabbed him.
Couldn’t pull him.
Lu Bai turned around, revealing an innocent smile: “Just looking around.”
Zhou Zongming only thought he hadn’t used much force earlier, waved his hand, signaling Lu Bai to get out quickly.
“Didn’t you see the yellow tape here? Whatever you saw, forget it clean.”
Zhou Zongming glanced at the others; because Lu Bai had lifted the curtain, the gathered residents had basically all seen the scene inside the tent. Cui Qing was even scared with legs gone soft, plopping down on the ground.
He didn’t suspect Lu Bai at all; after all, a boy who looked like a high school student generally wouldn’t make people feel danger, especially with such a bright smile.
Hm? Such a bright smile?
Zhou Zongming crossed his arms and sized up Lu Bai again: “You kid, not scared?”
“Scared of what?”
Lu Bai casually brushed it off: “Maybe I’m the murderer. Don’t they say from a psychological angle, murderers usually like returning to the scene after the crime?”
Zhou Zongming felt a headache; he didn’t think Lu Bai was the murderer—just a high school student with odd behavior.
If they had to pick suspects from the citizens in the nearby tents, Gao Pangzi and his group were actually more suspicious.
“Alright, go back to sleep quickly.”
……
Ton ton ton~
In the evening, after squatting at the tent entrance and finishing a bowl of seaweed egg drop soup, Lu Bai smacked his lips and squinted at the passing crowd.
The neighboring tent still had yellow tape around it, but the bloodstains inside had long been cleaned up.
All daily necessities had been packed up as clues and taken away.
The people taken for questioning in the morning had all received warnings not to spread the matter outside.
Even if some fragment leaked out from who-knows-which guy, it would at most be dinner chat fodder.
In the view of most residents, today was still an utterly ordinary day.
However, Lu Bai hadn’t relaxed his vigilance the entire day.
He was very clear that a death fighter was nearby.
Though he didn’t know why the other had chosen to target ordinary people, the ultimate objective would surely return to hunting death fighters.
“At this point…”
Lu Bai picked up the food tray: “…better eat first.”
Time passes not subject to human will, and nightfall descended once more.
After all, being forcibly woken before dawn, sleepiness came early.
Even Gao Pangzi didn’t chat idly with his two henchmen as usual; as soon as his head hit the pillow, he started snoring shortly after.
Everyone in the tent gradually fell asleep one after another.
……
Military tents have extremely strong light-blocking properties.
After lights out, even if not pitch black, it wasn’t much better.
In the darkness, a teeth-gritting whimper arose.
Only by the faint light shining through the curtain gaps could the figure be barely made out.
It was a person, holding a burly figure upside down by the legs.
Just like when killing a chicken: first a cut to the chicken neck, then grabbing the chicken’s two legs to hold it up, speeding up the bloodletting.
