My Ability Pool is Superior-Chapter 26: Young People

Chapter 26

The next day, morning.
In District 7, where tents stood thickly, pedestrians bustled about.
Although last night’s chaos caused many civilians to get injured, pessimism between people is never interconnected; for others, life still had to continue with a smile.
From the situation Lu Bai had observed so far, most people were still going about their business as usual, at most chatting idly about last night’s situation during their free time.
“Sure enough, there’s no way to find death fighters based on the announced locations.”
He dragged over a small stool and sat at the tent entrance, propping his cheek with one hand, scanning the passersby coming and going.
Not long ago, the system panel had announced the new round of location information.
Regrettably, the red dots representing death fighters on the location map had almost none appearing inside the tents.
Clearly, the death fighters had deliberately left their tents just before the system was about to announce the location information.
Under this major premise, the few scattered red dots remaining in the tents were, in Lu Bai’s estimation, even more likely to be traps.
Of course, it wasn’t as if no information had been obtained at all.
Simply counting the red dots on the location map, it could at least be confirmed that this temporary shelter had already gathered nearly a hundred death fighters.
“Don’t listen to those dumbasses bragging. They get so scared at the sound of gunshots that they burrow into their bedding and tremble. I’m different, see this cut?
Last night, as soon as I stepped out of the tent, I saw that murderer. I rushed over and kicked him. If I hadn’t helped block him, that murderer would’ve run off long ago, and there wouldn’t have been those big-headed soldiers shooting him dead on the spot.”
A middle-aged man wearing floral shorts had a cigarette dangling from his mouth, gesticulating animatedly.
A young man wearing a white shirt, with quite a handsome appearance, gave a thumbs up in admiration: “Whoa, bro’s steady.”
“You bet. Let me tell you, before this virus outbreak, the neighbors on both sides…”
Lu Bai glanced over and then withdrew his gaze. There were simply too many guys gathering in twos and threes to chat and bullshit; there was nothing worth paying attention to.
Out of boredom, Lu Bai decided to reorganize the information on the location map once more.
During this time, he vaguely smelled a scent of disinfectant.
Exiting the system panel, he turned his head to look—it was that young man wearing the white shirt.
The other sat down gracefully nearby. Even though he was a bit close, Lu Bai couldn’t just shoo him away directly.
Noticing Lu Bai’s gaze, the refined young man returned a smiling face: “Is there something troubling you?”
“What?”
Lu Bai was stunned for a moment, then his eyes gradually narrowed.
“Please don’t be nervous. I have no intention of being your enemy.” The young man paused, then added: “I hope we can cooperate.”
“What do you mean?” Lu Bai tilted his head to the side. Although he was asking, his gaze didn’t meet the young man’s, as if observing the others nearby.
The young man said: “You can call me A Gu. Let’s skip the meaningless probing phase. I’m acting alone, and I assume you are too.”
“That’s obvious.”
Lu Bai pointed at the empty tent behind him and gave a noncommittal smile: “Why should I cooperate with you?”
Lu Bai wasn’t surprised that the young man could confirm he was a death fighter; what intrigued him more was that the other seemed quite confident he could persuade him.
“Because you need my intelligence.”
The young man calling himself A Gu smiled: “You haven’t received full death fighter training, right?”
“What makes you say that?” Lu Bai remained impassive.
“Want one?”
A Gu took a pack of chewing gum from his pocket and offered it toward Lu Bai.
Seeing Lu Bai didn’t reach for it, he didn’t mind, taking out a piece of chewing gum himself, peeling off the wrapper, and tossing it into his mouth: “It’s obvious. To deal with one death fighter, you not only borrowed the official power of this military base but also caused such a big commotion.
Want to guess why everyone has gathered here, yet they’ve all gone into hiding?
From your perspective, doesn’t this irrational situation seem strange?”
“The death fighters have all gathered here.”
Lu Bai thought for a moment: “Preparing to compete for some thing?”
Before A Gu could explain, Lu Bai reacted.
“Gone into hiding means waiting, so that thing hasn’t appeared yet. Oh, virus antidote, or vaccine?”
A Gu was silent for a moment, then smiled: “Looks like it’s wise of me to seek cooperation with you.
If you’d received death fighter training, you’d know that no matter the background of the deathmatch arena, there will always be nodes that can greatly change the world process. This node can be an item, a creature, or even a wisp of breeze.
When a death fighter holds this node for more than twenty-four hours, his points will double, and all subsequent points will be acquired at double rate.”
After hearing this, Lu Bai didn’t ask the foolish question of what points were for, which would easily give him away. Instead, he inquired: “So, A Gu, what’s the cost?”
“You’re very perceptive.”
A Gu praised, then explained in detail: “The moment a death fighter obtains the node, the system panel will start real-time location announcement for that death fighter until the node changes hands.”
Lu Bai said: “But actually, you can’t be 100% sure the node will appear in this military base, right?”
“Yeah, I admit there’s an element of gambling, including proactively exposing myself to cooperate with you.” A Gu appeared very frank.
At the same time, a girl wearing a dark green school uniform passed through the crowd, her fair little face full of collagen showing a bit of anxiety.
When she saw Lu Bai sitting at the tent entrance, talking with a young man in a white shirt, the anxiety on her face instantly faded completely.
She hurried to Lu Bai’s side and let out a long breath: “Student Lu, I heard there was a big chaos in your district last night, even gunshots. You’re okay, right?”
“Student Wu Ya.”
Lu Bai smiled and nodded in greeting. Through the bustling crowd, he also noticed Tian Wang and Ke Jiangni following behind Wu Ya.
Seeing this scene, a playful expression appeared on A Gu’s face.
He spat out the chewing gum he’d been chewing for a while, which had lost its flavor: “Just as I thought, you’re indeed a good person.
Anyway, you can think it over. Best to give me a reply before tonight. If you agree, just give a thumbs up outside the tent, and I’ll come find you then.
So, that’s it for now. I won’t disturb you two catching up.” With that, he turned and left.
Wu Ya watched A Gu’s departing back, wanting to ask Lu Bai if her arrival had interrupted their conversation.
But she felt that asking that way seemed a bit like playing mind games, so after hesitating, she tentatively asked: “He’s not from our school, right?”
“Neither am I.” Lu Bai replied immediately.
