My Ability Pool is Superior-Chapter 28: Infiltration

Chapter 28

Lu Bai pulled down his hat brim, picked up the broom and put it into the hand-pushed cleaning cart, then unhurriedly pushed the cleaning cart toward the Research Center building.
He was wearing an orange-and-white cleaning worker uniform, with a mask and gloves. There was no need to deliberately look for Surveillance Blind Spots along the way; he openly pushed the cleaning cart, proceeding through the corridor between the tents.
The two soldiers at the entrance of the Research Center building just glanced at him without any intention of stopping him.
Lu Bai naturally pushed the cleaning cart into the building, passed through the hall’s corridor, and stopped in front of the Elevator Door.
It was ten o’clock at night now. The warm-toned lights illuminated the entire hall brightly, but unfortunately at this hour, there weren’t many people in the Research Center. The brighter it was, the more empty and silent it seemed.
The Elevator Door opened. Lu Bai calmly pushed the cleaning cart inside, glanced with his peripheral vision at the Surveillance Camera in the upper left corner of the elevator, then frankly pressed the floor button.
“Well done, keep it up. Next, when the Elevator Door opens, there are two Lab Personnel drinking coffee in the rest area on the left side. Ignore them and keep walking straight. Next, you’ll see a T-shaped corridor; go to the end, then turn right,” A Gu’s voice came from the micro Earpiece.
Lu Bai’s expression didn’t change; he only imperceptibly nodded his head, indicating he understood.
Ding dong~
With a pleasant bell sound, the Elevator Door opened again.
“Watch out, someone is coming out from the laboratory on your left now.”
Lu Bai dawdled out of the elevator, looking just like a corporate drone forced to work overtime, full of suppressed anger but only able to slack off passively.
Sure enough, the door of that laboratory was pushed open. A balding man in a lab coat yawned and, upon seeing Lu Bai, said to him, “You’ve had a hard time.”
Lu Bai nodded to the balding man in greeting, silently passed by him, but after just two steps, suddenly turned his head back: “I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”
The balding man was stunned for a moment: “Maybe because I spend most of my time inside the laboratory, it’s normal if you haven’t seen me.”
“You’re the ones who really have it hard.” Lu Bai couldn’t help but look at the bald spot on the man’s head.
After parting with the balding man, Lu Bai’s subsequent journey remained uneventful.
A Gu, who was remotely commanding from inside a tent, always gave Lu Bai warnings in advance, making one wonder how he managed to do all this.
If it was some Silver Ability, its intensity seemed a bit too absurd.
“Is that it?”
Lu Bai stood in a Surveillance Blind Spot, looking at a heavy Isolation Door not far away.
“Yeah, next I’ll interfere with the two monitors in the Monitoring Room, giving you about ten seconds of gap. You have to hurry; remember the password?”
Lu Bai took out the broom from the cleaning cart, went around to the corridor, pretending to pass by this laboratory.
“Start.”
As soon as the words were spoken, Lu Bai turned his head to the password lock and swiftly tapped on the Keyboard, entering the 16-digit password in less than three seconds.
Sizzle~ Pfft.
The laboratory’s Isolation Door opened and then closed.
Lu Bai’s entire set of actions was smooth and practiced, as if he had rehearsed it countless times beforehand.
“Nicely done!” A Gu’s voice clearly carried a bit of excitement.
“Cleaning worker? What are you doing coming in here?”
A Glasses Man, about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, wearing a white lab coat, stared in astonishment at Lu Bai who had suddenly opened the door and entered.
Lu Bai: “…”
He put down the broom in his hand and let out a long sigh: “This puts me in a difficult position.”

“The quality of your lab coats is pretty good.”
Lu Bai tugged twice, looking at the Lab Personnel he had tied up like a dumpling, expressing satisfaction.
“You, what exactly do you want to do? I’m just an assistant; I don’t know anything.” The Lab Personnel cautiously inquired.
“Hmm… let me think about where to start.”
Lu Bai rubbed his chin and suddenly asked, “This laboratory isn’t researching the vaccine, right?”
Although it was a question, his tone sounded quite certain.
Sensing that Lu Bai didn’t seem to intend to do anything to him, the bespectacled Lab Personnel breathed a slight sigh of relief.
Reason returned, and his speech became more coherent: “Yes, the vaccine research is led by Professor Jiang for Research and Development. Professor Jiang’s laboratory isn’t on this floor.”
“Not going to say something?” Lu Bai said softly.
In fact, ever since he entered this laboratory, the other end of the Earpiece had fallen silent, with no more sounds coming through.
A Gu’s voice sounded: “Yeah, I’m listening, but I suggest you run now. By this time, the Rapid Response Force should already be downstairs at the Research Center building.”
“No rush.”
Lu Bai wasn’t panicked, not even quickening his tone: “Have you arrived at the laboratory where the vaccine is now?”
“You figured it out, huh? A bit slower than I expected.”
A Gu’s voice came through the Earpiece, sounding somewhat distorted but clearly carrying his smugness.
Hearing this, Lu Bai chuckled lightly: “So you’re actually a Lab Personnel at the Research Center, right?”
From A Gu’s perspective, since Lu Bai had given up the opportunity to escape, he naturally didn’t mind chatting a bit more.
“Oh? Why do you think that?”
“I’ve had some suspicion before. After all, if you were just secretly hiding a wad of Chewing Gum in the Monitoring Room and using Surveillance Cameras to understand the situation inside the building, you’d miss a lot of blind spots.
Yet you’re very familiar with this building. With the intensity of a Silver Level ability, gathering such detailed intelligence couldn’t be done in just a few days.
You couldn’t possibly stick a wad of Chewing Gum on everyone you see—that’d be too disgusting. I’d rather believe you’ve done on-site Investigation. To achieve this without arousing suspicion, you must be Staff who can freely enter and exit the Research Center.
Oh, and one more thing you might not have noticed: although Medical Staff come to the Settlement to disinfect every day, the disinfectant smell on you is exceptionally strong.”
Lu Bai had long realized that Death Fighters’ initial identities were randomly assigned.
Compared to his High School Student start, the flexibility of a Researcher identity was much higher.
“You’re sharper than I imagined.”
A Gu on the other end of the Earpiece was silent for a few seconds before curiously inquiring: “Then why did you still obediently follow my plan?”
Lu Bai removed the micro earpiece and crushed it between his index finger and thumb with slight force.
After doing all this, he revealed an innocent smile tinged with a hint of Mockery: “Your plan?”
On the fifth floor of the Research Center, in a laboratory lined with rows of test tubes.
The white privacy curtain was pulled aside. Zhou Zongming grumbled as he squeezed his body out from the cluttered storage room full of medical equipment, staring at A Gu who had intruded late at night.
“This is insane. I actually listened to that kid and hid here for half a day, and damn it, that kid really didn’t lie to me.”
