My Ability Pool is Superior-Chapter 30: What Exactly Is The Node

Chapter 30

Hearing Lu Bai’s teasing, A Gu’s lips curved into a smile: “Thanks for the reminder.”
Before his words had even faded, he quickly pulled the Trigger.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The black muzzle continuously fired three Bullets.
The Bullets pierced through a Workbench, sending a stack of Documents on the Workbench flying on the spot.
No Blood splashed.
In fact, A Gu hadn’t aimed at Lu Bai at all when firing; what he did seemed more like it was to divert Lu Bai’s attention.
The next second, he put away his Pistol and rushed into the Isolation Room in the central area of the Laboratory.

Locking the Isolation Door, A Gu stared straight at Lu Bai through the palm-sized two-way bulletproof Glass without speaking.
The Rapid Response Force in the Corridor heard the Gunshots from the Laboratory and immediately sped up their door-breaking.
Lu Bai glanced at the Bullet Mark at his feet and calmly walked over to help Zhou Zongming up first.
“What’s the meaning of doing this? If you hadn’t hidden in here, you might have escaped.”
A Gu smiled mockingly.
“Actually, there’s one thing I didn’t lie to you about—neither of my two abilities is suited for direct combat, so I simply won’t try. If I got beaten black and blue by you, it’d be quite embarrassing.”
Zhou Zongming had barely recovered by now, but hearing A Gu’s words nearly made him choke again; his lips twitched.
Recalling A Gu’s Military Literacy shown during this time, he couldn’t help turning his head to look at Lu Bai.
Boom!
The Laboratory’s Gate was blasted open by the Door Ram, and a large number of fully armed Rapid Response Force Team Members poured in.
Originally, two Team Members had planned to directly subdue Lu Bai, but upon seeing Zhou Zongming standing beside him, they hesitated.
It was also fortunate that Zhou Zongming was still conscious; he turned his head and used the most concise language possible to explain the Situation on site to the Team Captain.
Soon, over a dozen Team Members surrounded the Isolation Room. Not knowing what Lu Bai was capable of, no one tried to pull him away.
“I don’t think you’ll give up so easily.” Lu Bai reached out and touched the Isolation Door; its thickness was exaggerated.
Zhou Zongming walked over again and knocked on the Isolation Door twice: “Inspector Gu, put down your Weapon now and come out with the door open. As long as you explain the Situation, we will handle it with discretion.”
A Gu smiled silently, completely ignoring Zhou Zongming; he just stared at Lu Bai, as if trying to note the flaws in his Plan.
“When Company Commander Zhou appeared in the Laboratory, I should have realized there was a problem with the Plan. I even planned to deal with him on the spot, but I didn’t expect you could still escape from so many Muzzles.”
“If it were any other Death Fighter, your Plan might have succeeded.”
The smile on Lu Bai’s face seemed extremely amiable.
“Yeah, I really underestimated you.”
A Gu sighed and undid the Button at his Shirt collar: “Good thing I always like to keep a backup Plan.”
“What do you mean by that?!”
Before Lu Bai could speak, Zhou Zongming hurriedly asked first.
A Gu said: “Humanity deals with Virus in two main directions, which you can simply understand as Cure and Prevention, corresponding to Special Medicine and Vaccine respectively. The difficulties of these two directions are not comparable.”
“If the difficulty of Special Medicine is nine stories high, then Vaccine Research and Development is about as high as Lightning.”
Lu Bai timely played the Straight Man.
A Gu was silent for a few seconds, seemingly Thinking about what Lightning was, and after a moment, continued.
“But even the difficulty of Vaccine Research and Development isn’t as simple as imagined. Throughout history, the use of medical Vaccines requires going through processes like Research and Development, formulation, animal experiments, multiple stages of Clinical Trials, often taking years or even decades.”
At this point, A Gu paused: “Don’t you find it strange? Why could the Research and Development center of a Military Base like this develop a Vaccine to the stage of impending Clinical Trial in just one short week?”
Before Lu Bai could answer—or rather, A Gu never intended to get an answer from Lu Bai—he turned and selected a Medicine from the refrigerator.
It was as if a string had been plucked in Lu Bai’s mind; he thought of a possibility: “Not a Vaccine to counter Virus Infection, but something to avoid being bitten by Zombies?”
“I’m really starting to regret cooperating with you…”
A Gu’s Action paused; his voice echoed faintly: “You’re right. The scale of the Virus ensures they can’t develop thinking ability; they only instinctively control the host to infect more people. This trait causes the Virus to deliberately avoid near-dead bodies.”
“So the so-called Vaccine is actually poison?”
Zhou Zongming listened in stunned disbelief. Though his status in this Shelter wasn’t low, he truly had no idea the strictly confidential Vaccine was like this.
A Gu stood up again, holding a Syringe filled with a tube of Medicine.
“But this Virus is really quite strict; the dosage is too hard to control. Too little and it won’t meet the disguise requirement; too much and the person rolls on the ground foaming at the mouth before the infected even bites. Professor Jiang has been brute-forcing to confirm this range over this period; all that’s missing is the Clinical Trial.”
After speaking, A Gu decisively inserted the Syringe into his carotid artery.
【Ding!】
【Current Deathmatch Arena Node has appeared.】
【Death Fighter who obtains the Node will receive Double Points Reward】
【Node has been real-time located. (Click to view)】
A series of mechanical prompt Sounds rang in Lu Bai’s mind; he just watched as A Gu, after the injection, took out a USB drive from his pocket.
A Gu smiled: “So what do you think a ‘Node’ really is?”
“Experimental Log.” Lu Bai licked his Lips and turned to ask a Team Member: “How long to open this door?”
The Team Member was momentarily stunned, glanced stealthily at his Captain, then explained: “This Isolation Room is built to bank vault standards; it’s hard to Break Open in a short time.”
“Wait, what are you talking about? What Node? You kid still hiding things from me?!”
Zhou Zongming felt that ever since Lu Bai arrived in this Laboratory, he’d become an Outsider; he recognized every word Lu Bai and A Gu said, but put together, he was confused.
“Alright, Company Commander Zhou, I think you don’t have time to worry about these issues now.”
A Gu finally acknowledged Zhou Zongming once; he looked toward the Laboratory Window: “Once a ‘Node’ appears, no one can hide anymore—who knows what kind of Movement those lunatics will cause.”
As if to verify his words, hysterical Screams immediately came from outside the window.
