Chapter 211

Chapter 211: 210: Business Trip
The two of them drove to a Chinese restaurant they had visited several times before. When the waiter brought the menu, Jiang Baizhou initially wanted to hand it to Cen Jin, but as if thinking of something, he withdrew and opened it himself. After choosing three of Cen Jin’s favorite dishes, he returned the menu to the waiter and ordered her a glass of her favorite coconut juice.
After hearing his arrangements, Cen Jin couldn’t help but smile knowingly. Indeed, in these aspects, he knew her well.
Moreover, he remembered everything she had said before.
"Why are you smiling?" After the waiter left, Jiang Baizhou looked at her and, seeing her smiling ambiguously, curiously asked, "Is there something wrong with the dishes I ordered?"
Cen Jin shook her head with a smile: "Nothing, just that every time you go out to eat with me, you order what I like and not what you like. I feel a little guilty about it."
"It’s no big deal." Jiang Baizhou replied lightly, pausing slightly before adding, "I’m not picky about food."
"..."
Cen Jin was rendered speechless, her smile instantly froze, and the sweetness and joy in her heart vanished without a trace. She looked at him with a face full of despair: "So you’re saying I’m picky?"
"No, you misunderstood." Jiang Baizhou smiled, speaking plainly, yet it felt like a case of ’the guilty conceals with feigned innocence.’
This person always teases others without drawing blood, and yet manages to appear innocent, making it seem as if she had wronged him.
In reality, the most scheming and mischievous person was always him, while she was forever the one at a loss.
After eating, it was past one o’clock. Leaving the restaurant, they followed their original plan, went to a nearby flower shop, selected a bouquet of white chrysanthemums, bought two of Mr. Nie’s favorite fruits during his lifetime, and then drove towards the cemetery.
Approaching the cemetery, Cen Jin’s mood grew heavier. Images of seeing her father’s bloodstained body at twelve years old involuntarily surfaced in her mind. A chill ran through her, her heart sank, and her palms began to sweat slightly.
Years had passed, but this was something she never wanted to recall or face. Her father’s sudden death had a significant impact on her and their family, so her mood was always profoundly heavy when visiting the cemetery.
At the cemetery, she and Ms. Qin typically came more than twice a year. Besides Qingming Festival, they would choose Mr. Nie’s birthday to visit, sometimes also during holidays.
Noticing Cen Jin’s state of mind, Jiang Baizhou pressed his cool lips together and silently reached out, enveloping her small hand tightly in his large palm. A deep, rich voice sounded in the car: "I’m here."
Hearing this, Cen Jin was momentarily stunned. She turned to look at him just as he glanced at her. Their eyes met, and at that instant, the void in Cen Jin’s heart was filled, and she broke into a small smile: "Yes, I know. I’m okay."
Hearing her words, Jiang Baizhou withdrew his gaze and looked ahead.
However, Cen Jin did not shift her gaze and continued looking at him. He was indeed reliable. It seemed that as long as he was by her side, no matter how difficult or tiring things became, she would not panic or retreat, especially as long as this warm hand held hers, she had nothing to fear.
Arriving at the cemetery, Cen Jin got out at the entrance, holding the elegant bouquet of white chrysanthemums, waiting expectantly for Jiang Baizhou, who went to park the car.
Due to the sun not being out, the weather was slightly chilly, and the sky appeared overcast as if it might rain.
After waiting for about four or five minutes, Jiang Baizhou approached her, naturally taking her hand: "Let’s go in!"
"Okay." Cen Jin nodded with a smile, took a deep breath while looking at the scenery of the cemetery, and walked inside with Jiang Baizhou.
It was the same familiar path, and this year marked her third visit to the cemetery to see Mr. Nie. However, this time felt much better than the previous visits; her mood was not as heavy, perhaps because he was with her!
Or maybe it was because that familiar warm hand was tightly holding hers!
Walking into the cemetery, an eerie pressure enveloped her, surrounding her as she stood in front of Mr. Nie’s tombstone. Looking at the gray gravestone with the young, handsome face clad in a police uniform, Cen Jin raised the corners of her mouth into a faint smile, placed the white chrysanthemums in front of the gravestone, and softly murmured, "Dad, I’m here to see you again. But this time, I’m not here with Mom; I’m here with Jiang Baizhou." As she finished, she glanced at Jiang Baizhou, and the smile on her face deepened.
"Oh right, Dad, I came mainly to share some good news with you. I remember you saying when I was young that Jiang Baizhou next door seemed particularly calm and composed for someone so young. You said if he became a police officer, he would definitely be more outstanding than you and that since I grew up with him, I should turn to him if I have trouble and not be shy, as he is reliable. Now, I’ve registered for marriage with him. Aren’t you happy? The only regret is that during the wedding, I can’t walk down the aisle holding your hand." As she spoke, Cen Jin got choked up, her nose tingled, her eyes ached, but she held back her tears with great effort.
Jiang Baizhou gently squeezed her hand, offering a reassuring look, and wrapped his arm around her: "Dad will be watching over you from the sky; he won’t miss out."
"Yes." Cen Jin nodded with a smile.
After staying at the cemetery for about ten minutes, they lovingly walked out, hand in hand.
Driving away, as Cen Jin’s emotions had mostly recovered, she turned to ask, "By the way, are you going back to work tomorrow?"
"Yes, I have scheduled patients and classes at the school tomorrow." Jiang Baizhou glanced at her and responded in a soft tone.
"I also need to return to the studio tomorrow. Ling Ran can’t handle it all alone; the three assistants who just joined aren’t familiar with the procedures. The fashion show for Yun Group and Milan is about to begin as well..."
"Hmm." Jiang Baizhou acknowledged lightly, then after a pause, he turned his head and asked, "Will you have to go to Milan by then?"
"Yes, as a participating designer, I have to go to Milan, but the exact date hasn’t been set yet; it’ll be before the end of the month anyway!"
"How long will you be gone?"
"About three to five days!" Cen Jin thought for a moment, not providing a precise answer. Looking at his inscrutably shaded profile, she tilted her head and asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Will Yun Qi be going then too?" After a brief silence, Jiang Baizhou’s calm voice sounded in the car, with a clear undertone of displeasure.
