The voice from the servants in the backyard reached Yun Qi’s ears as he walked through the large living room and open kitchen of the house. Passing through the automatic floor-to-ceiling glass door to the backyard, he saw a man dressed in a casual black suit, holding a plate in one hand and a pair of tongs in the other, standing at the grill, turning over the skewers, seemingly enjoying the atmosphere immensely.
"Hey, you’re here! Why so slow? My stuff is almost done grilling, and you’re just getting here," He Xuhang looked up, waved the tongs in his hand, noticed that Yun Qi was holding a girl’s hand, and his face showed an incredulous smile. He raised an eyebrow, handed the plate and tongs to a man wearing a white chef’s outfit, then walked over, glanced up and down at Ye Lingran, and asked with a smile, "Hey! Yun Qi, we haven’t seen each other in just over two months, right? What’s going on? Who’s this beautiful lady? Aren’t you going to introduce her?"
Yun Qi chuckled lightly, glanced at Ye Lingran: "Let me introduce, this is the heir of the He Family chain hotels, He Xuhang. This is... my fiancée, Ye Lingran."
"Fiancée? So the news s outside are true?" He Xuhang instantly became unsettled upon hearing Yun Qi’s introduction: "But when I asked you last time, you said no?"
"When did I say no? If I remember correctly, I only told you to gossip less, not to believe what the media say, and pay more attention to your own rumors. I never denied that I have a fiancée," Yun Qi calmly refuted with a slow and steady voice.
He Xuhang didn’t mind losing out, he pouted, looked at Ye Lingran, and reached out laughing: "Hello, nice to meet you, Ye... Lingran?"
"Hello," Ye Lingran quickly released her hand to lightly shake with him, smiling gently and elegantly.
"I’ve known Yun Qi for about... fourteen years, and you are the first girl he’s officially introduced to me. Don’t be shy, just make yourself at home."
Ye Lingran, after hearing this, instinctively looked at Yun Qi. She wasn’t sure if she was being too sensitive or overthinking, but why did she feel there was another meaning from He Xuhang’s words? She’s the first girl officially introduced, does that mean... there were others he didn’t formally introduce before?

"Why did you suddenly think of barbecuing in this cold weather? Even specially came to Jiang City?" Yun Qi walked to the grill, looked at the food placed on the table and rack - seafood, meats, and organic vegetables - and teased He Xuhang.
"Yesterday, I happened to have some business here, and since you were here, I came by to take a little break; why not? Who would be like you, working all the time, without knowing how to enjoy and balance work with leisure?" He Xuhang teasingly glanced at him and then suddenly noticed the bandage on Yun Qi’s hand, asking curiously: "What happened to your hand?"
"Just a minor injury," Yun Qi replied faintly, not planning to elaborate further.
He Xuhang chuckled: "Is it alright?"
"It’s fine now; by tomorrow, I can almost remove the bandage. The medicine has worked quite well these past couple of days."
The two men stood at the grill turning the skewers, while Ye Lingran sat in a nearby chair, sipping a cup of cappuccino that the villa’s servants had brought her. The taste was quite authentic, not too bitter, with a balanced sweetness. In the chilly evening breeze, having a hot cup of coffee felt quite good.
While she was savoring the coffee, Yun Qi, who was originally chatting with He Xuhang, suddenly approached her with a plate of barbecue: "Would you like to try?"
Ye Lingran looked up at him, then at the skewers on the plate, took one and tried it. The taste was even better than she had imagined, her eyes lit up a bit, and Yun Qi asked with a smile: "Is it good?"
"Hmm, quite nice," Ye Lingran showed him it indeed tasted good by finishing the skewer in two or three bites.
"It’s getting colder; are you cold sitting here? Would you prefer to go inside and eat?" Yun Qi, noticing her slightly reddened nose, couldn’t help but ask with concern.
