"Really?" Nan Jiayan raised an eyebrow with a smile, questioning in a doubtful tone.
"Yeah." Lu Shishu nodded, noticing his doubtful attitude and furrowed her brows. "If you’re unwilling then forget it. Thanks for the phone and wallet, I’ll be leaving now."
"Hey, wait." Just as she was about to turn away, Nan Jiayan reached out and grabbed her wrist, smiling as he said, "What’s the rush? I didn’t say I wouldn’t go, did I? Hop on!" After seeing the look in her eyes, Nan Jiayan sensibly released her wrist and gave her a glance, signaling her to get on the bike.
"Riding a bike?" Lu Shishu furrowed her brows tightly, looking at him with some displeasure, with a hint of wariness in her eyes.
"There are so many classmates watching here! Don’t worry! It’s just to grab a meal, and there’s a really good restaurant at the corner of the street ahead." As if he picked up on her concerns, Nan Jiayan suddenly felt a bit frustrated; did he really look like a bad guy?
"Can’t we walk there? Besides..." Lu Shishu tilted her head and glanced at the back seat of his bicycle. "Looks like there’s no place for a person on your bike?"
"You can’t sit, but... you can stand. There’s no place nearby to park the bike, and I can’t just leave it here. Want to give it a try?"
Lu Shishu was speechless, looking at the warm smile on Nan Jiayan’s face. She put her phone and wallet into her backpack, hesitating slightly, thinking it would be best to return the favor quickly, so they would owe each other nothing in the future. She placed one foot on the pedal of the bicycle, but to get on, she needed support. Looking at Nan Jiayan’s broad back and shoulders, she hesitated again.
"What’s wrong?" Seeing that she wasn’t getting on, Nan Jiayan turned to ask. But upon seeing her expression and her foot on the pedal, he seemed to understand something and burst out laughing, "Just hold onto me! I don’t mind. Once I start riding, you’ll have to hold on to me, or else it’s easy to fall."
Lu Shishu rolled her eyes. She didn’t care whether he minded or not; she was the one who minded right now.
After hesitating for about ten more seconds, Lu Shishu decisively placed her hand on his shoulder, standing up directly and placing her other hand on his other shoulder to stabilize herself.
Feeling the two gentle hands fall on him, Nan Jiayan raised his eyebrows with a smile, ready to go: "Hold on tight, I’m about to start moving!" With that, he pushed off and began pedaling toward their destination.
When starting off, the bike wobbled slightly, and Lu Shishu reflexively leaned forward onto him, gripping his shoulders tightly. Riding ahead, Nan Jiayan laughed with a hint of depth, joyfully pedaling a bit faster than before.
In the setting sun, a gentle breeze blew, carrying a slight chill, gradually messing up Lu Shishu’s silky hair. The bike became more stable, and Lu Shishu slowly straightened up. As they went downhill, with the sunset in the distance, she suddenly felt she hadn’t seen such a scene in years, and she hadn’t sat on a bicycle since high school, yet found herself experiencing it again in her sophomore year.
The slope wasn’t steep but was quite long. As the speed increased, Lu Shishu asked, "Hey! Slow down a bit." From behind, she felt a bit anxious, since she still cherished her life a lot.
"This isn’t fast at all! I’m not even pedaling; it’s the slope causing it."
"Then apply the brakes a bit!"
Hearing this, Nan Jiayan chuckled, "Alright, I’ll listen to you."
After they passed this long slope and rode for another three minutes or so, Nan Jiayan steadily stopped the bike in front of a restaurant. Slightly tilting his head, he looked at Lu Shishu behind him, "We’re here, get down carefully."
Lu Shishu carefully jumped off the bike, looked up at the restaurant, and after Nan Jiayan locked the bike, they both walked inside. This restaurant had only one boss lady, a chef, and a waiter. Though small, the food they made was very delicious.
"Ah Yan! You’re here! Long time no see!" The boss lady warmly greeted Nan Jiayan with a smile as soon as she saw him.
"Yes, Aunt Qi, haven’t seen you since summer vacation, you seem to have gotten even younger."
"Oh my! You and your sweet talk. Come sit and see what you want to eat." The boss lady, flattered by his words, felt a bit embarrassed. She also noticed Lu Shishu standing behind him, looked her up and down, and asked with a smile, "Hey, Ah Yan, is this your girlfriend? She’s really pretty."
