Chapter 494: 004: Did I offend you in any way?
"Are you on a diet?" Nan Jiayan chuckled lightly, his tone tinged with a bit of helplessness.
"Do I need to?" Lu Shishu spread her hands, confidently retorting.
Nan Jiayan laughed again. She was about 1.7 meters tall, with a very slender figure, not needing to diet at all, making it even more puzzling for Nan Jiayan. "If you’re not, then why are you eating so little?"
"Just a habit, I don’t like to eat too much at night."
Hearing her say that, Nan Jiayan could only smile helplessly, unable to insist further. After eating, they both walked to the cashier, and Nan Jiayan asked with a smile, "Aunt Qi, how much is it?"
"A total of 83 yuan. The extra amount from last time when you recorded here can cover this meal and even eleven yuan more! You don’t need to pay."
"Alright, thanks! We’re leaving, see you next time."
"Okay, you’re always welcome here."
After finishing talking with Aunt Qi, Nan Jiayan turned to look at Lu Shishu, "Let’s go!"
Lu Shishu seemed a bit puzzled, glancing at the owner, then at Nan Jiayan’s back as he walked out. She quickly caught up, confused, "Hey... Nan... Nan Jiayan, wasn’t it said that I’d treat? What’s going on?"
"Well, the thing is, my friends and I used to come here often. And every time we paid, we weren’t keen on getting change. So, Aunt Qi usually kept a tab for us. Next time we came, she’d offset it with the extra from last time. Actually, last time we were here was over two months ago, around summer break time. I even forgot there was still money." Nan Jiayan chuckled, explaining slowly. Seeing her clueless expression, he raised an eyebrow with a smile, "How about... you treat me next time when you’re free, okay?"
Lu Shishu was speechless, suddenly feeling somewhat suffocated, unable to pinpoint what was wrong. She glared at him irritably and walked ahead.
Looking at her departing back, Nan Jiayan laughed quietly, quickly unlocking the bike, pushing it to catch up, and asked tentatively, "What’s the matter? Are you upset?"
"Why would I be upset?"
"Really?"
"What else?" Lu Shishu turned back with a dissatisfied glare.
"So, are you planning to walk back?"
"It’s not far anyway, besides... when we came over, it was a long downhill. Going back would be uphill. Are you planning to carry me up?" Speaking of which, Lu Shishu smiled too, but with an obvious hint of challenge in her smile.
"Ha, so you’re questioning my stamina?" Nan Jiayan chuckled lightly, dismissively responding, "If I can’t pedal up, there’s only one reason, you... are too heavy." After saying this, he hastened his steps, pushing the bike forward, creating an obvious distance between them.
Lu Shishu glared angrily with widened eyes, "You’re the heavy one, your whole family is heavy, you stop right there." As soon as her voice dropped, she slung her backpack over her shoulders and chased after him, stepping out with her little white shoes.
Dusk had totally fallen. As they walked along the tree-lined path, the consequence of being caught by Lu Shishu was nothing but a sure smack on the back. Yet, Nan Jiayan wasn’t annoyed, laughing heartily. After the ruckus stopped, they began to chat casually. Some questions Lu Shishu didn’t want to answer, she just rolled her eyes at him.
"You don’t seem to like me much?" When they reached the long slope, Nan Jiayan tilted his head and asked.
"You’re not some hotshot, why should I like you? Besides, I reckon there are quite a few girls who like you. Are you saying in your eyes that any girl must like you?" When Lu Shishu said this, her attitude was full of prejudice and disdain.
In her impression, Nan Jiayan should be that kind of playboy who smoothly navigates among many girls and manages to stay unscathed, indicating he’s quite adept. She didn’t really like dealing with such people; it was too tiring and troublesome. She preferred simplicity.
"That’s not what I mean. I just feel that... since this morning, you’ve been giving me a look like there’s something wrong with me. Did I offend you somehow?" Nan Jiayan, upon hearing this, felt somewhat at a loss whether to cry or laugh. "Is it because of the thing last night when you fell off the wall? But honestly, in that incident, I was a victim too. When you fell, it seemed to be on me, and I really had no idea someone would climb over the wall and come in."
