Chapter 504

Chapter 504: 007: Rumors_3
The two of them walked in the direction of the school together, and as they got closer, Nan Jiayan asked, "Where are you planning to have dinner?"
"What’s it to you?" Lu Shishu glanced at him unkindly.
"Don’t be so hostile! You’re going to class later, shouldn’t you have a meal before you go? Or are you planning to go to class hungry?" Nan Jiayan looked at her, who at the moment resembled a hedgehog on guard, and couldn’t help but laugh, a trace of helplessness in his expression.
"The cafeteria." Lu Shishu looked away, responding coolly.
"There are four cafeterias at school, but it seems only Cafeteria 2 and the main cafeteria have good food. Which one are you going to?" Nan Jiayan asked, continuing the conversation.
"Cafeteria 2."
"Okay, then let’s go together!"
"..."
Lu Shishu’s mouth twitched slightly, and finally, she couldn’t help but stop in her tracks, turning to look at him. She took a deep breath, "Nan Jiayan, what exactly do you want? I owe you a meal, I already said that we’ll do it when both of us have time on the weekend. What’s the deal with you sticking around me? I don’t want to have any extra encounters with you, you get me?"
"Well, since that’s the case, I’ll be straightforward too." Nan Jiayan wasn’t bothered at all by her blunt words. He smiled and continued as she finished speaking.
Lu Shishu was taken aback, raising her eyebrows in puzzlement and squinting at him, "What?"
"I want to pursue you." Nan Jiayan, with eyes that seemed to hold the cosmos, let these four gentle notes slip from his lips. The sound was not loud, yet very melodious, falling into Lu Shishu’s ears like a beautiful melody, leaving her in a daze for a long time.
Nan Jiayan wasn’t in a hurry for her response, just smiled brightly and looked at her quietly, with no trace of nervousness, as if he had always regarded her as his for the taking.
After a long while, the streetlights along the road lit up, pulling Lu Shishu’s thoughts back. She stared blankly at his handsome, smiling face, her lips moving slightly. After a while, she found her voice, incredulously retorting, "You’re crazy. We only really met yesterday! Don’t tell me it’s love at first sight, I don’t buy that. Don’t waste these thoughts on me, go charm those girls who like you!"
Seeing her about to leave after saying that, Nan Jiayan immediately reached out to hold her, smiling as he said, "Perhaps we only truly met yesterday, but how do you know I didn’t know you before then?"
Lu Shishu was once again puzzled, furrowing her brows tighter, "What do you mean?"
"I mean, I’ve noticed you since last semester, just didn’t have the chance to approach and get to know you. I actually don’t believe in love at first sight either, but... after meeting you, I realized love at first sight does exist." Nan Jiayan raised his eyebrows and spoke lightly, his face never losing its sunny smile, especially in the last sentence, where there was a noticeable sincerity and emotion in his eyes.
"Last semester?" Lu Shishu widened her eyes in surprise, clearly not believing his words.
Nan Jiayan nodded with a smile, recounting the story of how he first noticed her: "The first time I saw you was in the sycamore grove on the south side of the campus. I think it was your class doing outdoor drawing, it was just after 3 PM. I was just passing by because I was late for class, so I cut through there. After that, I kept trying to find out your name. It might sound funny, but it actually took me nineteen days to find out your name, despite your popularity in the watercolor department! In May, when the school was planning to stop camping activities, I thought it was a chance, but you didn’t attend that camping trip. So, I kept missing opportunities until the night before last, when I heard your voice as you climbed over the wall, and I realized it was you. I felt really lucky to have met you that way."
He spoke in detail, and she listened intently. When he finished, Lu Shishu wasn’t sure how to feel—just that it was a strange sensation.
Since middle school, many people had confessed to her because of her stunning beauty, and many boys pursued her. Being confessed to was something she was completely accustomed to. However, in her memory, no boy had ever shared the entire process of how he came to like her, nor had anyone said ’I want to pursue you’ with such warmth and sincerity, like Nan Jiayan. Most of them said things like ’I like you’ or ’Be my girlfriend!’ She had heard it so often that perhaps she was a little tired of it, feeling that all they appreciated was her appearance.
