My Aloof Husband Can't Stop His Devoted Affection-Chapter 557 - 024: Change

Chapter 557

Chapter 557: 024: Change
Inside the hospital.
Nan Jiayan stood by the bedside, his face cold, not even glancing at the weak Father Nan lying on the hospital bed. His gaze was sharp, directed at the warm sunlight outside, leaving people guessing his emotions at the moment.
"Ah Yan, this is the situation at home now. I know you hate me, but Little Yu’er is innocent. Since Wu Qianxin has sent Little Yu’er to you, please take care of her for some days. Once I feel better, I’ll take her back, alright?" Father’s eyes remained fixed on Nan Jiayan’s back, hardly moving away, and every word he spoke sounded weak, as if pleading.
"Seven years ago, I already severed the father-son relationship with you. Your affairs, I absolutely don’t want to meddle in." Nan Jiayan spoke coldly, seemingly annoyed, with a hint of sarcasm: "Wu Qianxin was the woman you insisted on marrying no matter what, and look how long it’s been now—you’re lying on a hospital bed, she’s abandoned your daughter, and disappeared. Don’t you find it ridiculous, Nan Xueyou? You didn’t expect retribution to come so quickly, did you!"
"I know you hate me, Ah Yan. I know you can’t get over what happened with your mom and me, but can’t you show some pity to Little Yu’er? She’s still so young." Father Nan shed two lines of tears, face full of guilt, speaking somewhat emotionally.
Nan Jiayan turned his face coldly, towering over him: "Back then, did you ever think about me and mom? Weren’t we worthy of pity? Weren’t we supposed to be abandoned?"
"I’m sorry, Ah Yan. I know that incident caused you great harm, and no matter how many times I apologize, it can’t make up for it. But I beg you, just take care of Little Yu’er for a while, okay?"
Nan Jiayan furrowed his brow in anger, hearing the tone of his father’s words made his anger flare, memories from seven years ago suddenly flooded his mind, prompting him to head towards the room’s exit, leaving furiously without saying a word.
"Ah Yan..."
Outside the room, Nan Jiayan could still hear Father Nan’s desperate cry, yet it felt weak and helpless.
Nan Jiayan exited the hospital and went to the parking lot, got into his car, took out a pack of cigarettes from the glove compartment, and was about to light one when he inadvertently saw the familiar bag in the rear-view mirror, causing him to pause, instantly losing the urge to smoke.
Yesterday, he only remembered to carry her up, completely forgetting to take her bag, which probably has her phone in it. It’s already noon, and he doesn’t know how she’s doing with Little Yu’er.
With that thought, he placed the cigarette back into the pack, feeling eager to return, so he immediately started the car in preparation to go back, when his phone rang again from an unknown caller.
Nan Jiayan paused, but answered politely: "Hello."
"Hello, are you Mr. Nan Xueyou’s son?" The voice on the phone was courteous and gentle.
"Who is this?"
"I’m your father’s attending doctor. Just now, I heard from the nurse that Mr. Nan Xueyou’s son came over, so I wanted to discuss his illness with you. But when I went to the ward earlier, Mr. Nan Xueyou said you’d already left, so I could only call you."
"His affairs have nothing to do with me."
"Mr. Nan, the thing is, Mr. Nan Xueyou’s condition is now not looking very optimistic. The lady who brought him to the hospital can’t be reached either, so we need to discuss a treatment plan. Additionally, the medical fees for today and yesterday have not been paid yet. So... I’m hoping Mr. Nan could cooperate with us." The doctor on the phone spoke sincerely and politely, as if negotiating.
Nan Jiayan pursed his lips, particularly reluctant to respond to such words, because Nan Xueyou, to him, was no longer a father, just an unimportant stranger.
The reason he returned to the country wasn’t for him, but for Lu Shishu.
"Mr. Nan?" Seeing Nan Jiayan silent for a long time, the doctor on the phone probed again: "Are you available now? If convenient, could you please come to my office? We need to discuss Mr. Nan Xueyou’s condition and treatment plan."
Though Nan Jiayan was really unwilling to handle Nan Xueyou’s affairs, after a moment of silence, he reluctantly replied: "Understood, may I have your surname?"
