Chapter 470: Let Him See Enough
Seeing that there was still some time before Xiao Cui returned, Bai Hanyun gestured toward the main hall of the courtyard. "Master He, let us discuss the details over a cup of tea."
"Sure. Miss Bai, please." He Xuanren agreed with a smile.
With that, Bai Hanyun turned and walked toward the main hall.
Before following her, He Xuanren instructed his nephews, "I’m going to discuss business with Miss Bai. You all may stay here and collect the payment later."
"Yes, Eldest Paternal Uncle," He Kaijun and the others replied.
Receiving their response, He Xuanren followed Bai Hanyun into the main hall.
Seeing her approach, a servant working outside the main hall bowed. "Miss Bai."
Bai Hanyun nodded at the servant, then gestured for He Xuanren to take a seat. "Master He, please have a seat."
After both of them sat down, He Xuanren asked, "Miss Bai, may I know the details of the cooperation you mentioned just now?"
Bai Hanyun didn’t immediately answer him, but poured a cup of tea for each of them.
After taking a sip, she said, "Master He, I believe you have already seen the situation in Xiqiang City and the surrounding areas."
He Xuanren nodded, and Bai Hanyun continued, "As you can see, with the Feng Army guarding the western region, the common people can live safely. However, this stability is not sustainable in the long run. Without food, clothing, or shelter, even peace can be easily shattered."
After listening for a moment, He Xuanren pondered briefly before cautiously asking, "Miss Bai, do you plan to support the common people by providing food, clothing, and shelter?"
Bai Hanyun smiled and replied, "I do not possess that much power."
He Xuanren hesitated for a second and then probingly asked, "Then...?"
Noticing his confusion and curiosity, Bai Hanyun explained, "I plan to open grocery stores and grain stores. These stores will sell food and daily necessities at a low price."
Hearing this, He Xuanren rubbed his chin and fell into deep thought. After a short silence, he raised his eyes to look at her.
"Miss Bai, this commoner is a merchant. Merchants prioritize profit. We will not conduct business at a loss without reason."
Understanding his concern, Bai Hanyun replied calmly, "Master He, I understand your position. What I need from you is not capital, but your connections."
He Xuanren’s eyes flickered briefly at her words. "Oh? Miss Bai, may you elaborate?"
Sensing his interest, Bai Hanyun continued, "Master He, at present, I have supplies but lack distribution channels. Although I have Feng Xiyan backing me in Xiqiang City and opening grain and grocery stores here would not be a problem, my goal is to establish chain stores across the Central Continent."
Bai Hanyun paused, then smiled at He Xuanren and added, with a hint of invitation in her voice, "I wonder if Master He would be interested in becoming my partner in this business."
Hearing this, He Xuanren pondered for a long moment before saying, "This proposal is indeed very attractive. However, before this commoner gives Miss Bai an answer, this commoner wishes to know how strong Miss Bai’s supply capability is."
Bai Hanyun raised her brows slightly at his words.
’This Master He is truly cautious. Since he wants to test me, then I will let him see enough.’
Having made up her mind, Bai Hanyun replied, "That won’t be a problem."
Just as she finished speaking, Xiao Cui walked into the main hall.
She first curtsied to Bai Hanyun, then to Master He, before saying, "Miss Bai, the payment has been settled. Should we move the fabrics to the warehouse?"
Nodding at her, Bai Hanyun replied, "Yes. Have them move the fabrics to the back courtyard."
"Understood." Xiao Cui bowed again. "This servant will arrange it immediately."
After Xiao Cui left, Bai Hanyun stood up and looked at He Xuanren. "Master He, do you have some time to spare?"
Knowing that Bai Hanyun was about to show him her supplies, He Xuanren also stood up. "Of course."
With that, He Xuanren followed Bai Hanyun toward the main warehouse of the Great General’s mansion.
Along the way, He Xuanren not only observed the surroundings but also carefully watched the servants and soldiers within the mansion.
Seeing that every one of them had a rosy complexion, smiling faces, and wore clean, nearly new clothes, He Xuanren’s heart slowly filled with anticipation and expectation.
Looking at Bai Hanyun’s back, he thought,
’I hope that Miss Bai is truly as capable as she appears.’
Unaware that He Xuanren had placed so much hope in her, Bai Hanyun calmly led the way forward.
Before long, the two soldiers guarding the courtyard’s entrance where the warehouse was located saw her approaching with He Xuanren.
Clasping their fists, they greeted her respectfully. "This subordinate greets Miss Bai."
After greeting Bai Hanyun, both soldiers turned their vigilant gazes toward He Xuanren.
Bai Hanyun nodded in acknowledgment and walked into the courtyard.
Glancing back, He Xuanren noticed the two soldiers still staring at him while whispering to each other. Feeling the pressure of their scrutiny gazes, his palms became sweaty, and he hurriedly looked away.
Outside the courtyard, one of the soldiers asked quietly, "Brother, do you know who that man is?"
The other soldier shook his head. "I have never seen him before. Maybe he is Miss Bai’s relative?"
The first soldier slapped him lightly on the arm and asked in disbelief, "Have you lost your mind? Don’t you know Miss Bai is Fairy Bai? How could she have a relative in the mortal world? Does that uncle look like a heavenly immortal to you?"
Scratching his head, the second soldier thought for a moment before hesitantly asking, "Then... should we this to the Great General? No matter what, this is the first time Miss Bai brings a stranger back without the Great General accompanying her."
The first soldier pondered briefly at his suggestion, then replied, "You stay here. I will this to the Great General. Even though that uncle can’t compare to our Great General, it’s better to be safe than sorry."
"What if that uncle is planning to steal Fairy Bai away from the Great General? Then wouldn’t we all be doomed?"
