My Avatar Is Becoming the Final Boss-Chapter 13: Nickname

Chapter 13

July 9, 2020, 11:00 PM, Guyimai Neighborhood.
After the private meeting on the trail ended, relying on the high mobility granted by the Binding Restraints, Ji Minghuan dashed swiftly through the streets and alleys, weaving among skyscrapers. The glass curtain walls reflected his flying figure, and in the reflection, the metallic edges of his mask gleamed coldly under the moonlight.
From a distance, his figure looked like a rapidly moving dark cloud—soaring, spinning, falling. The tail of his black tuxedo fluttered wildly in the wind above the city, swaying back and forth, sounding like sails billowing on the Atlantic.
He avoided all surveillance zones on the road, all places lit brightly by neon lights, especially the bustling night markets. Around this time, Lijing's nightlife was just beginning. The long streets were crowded with a steady stream of people. Many had stopped beneath a giant LED screen to watch live news from the city center.
Thankfully, he made it home before Gu Qiye, or things would’ve gotten messy.
To be safe, Ji Minghuan didn’t enter through the front door but instead used the Binding Restraints to lighten his body, leaped onto the second-floor eaves, and slipped into his room through the open floor-to-ceiling window.
Without looking back, he walked straight to the bed, used the Binding Restraints to close the window behind him, shutting out the city noise.
He raised a hand to his ear, removed the black mask embedded with a voice changer, then threw the tuxedo coat draped over him to the floor. Too tired to move even a second longer, he flopped straight onto the bed, using the Binding Restraints to change into a clean set of pajamas.
Like an intimate mistress dressing him, the Binding Restraints, after helping him change, scooped up the mask and coat from the floor and tucked them into the storage box at the bottom of the wardrobe, then slipped back into Ji Minghuan's sleeve.
To be honest, he may have looked all cool and carefree in front of the crowd earlier—dangling under the billboard while casually reading a book—but Ji Minghuan was seriously puzzled inside. While hanging upside down, he had to use one of the restraints to keep the coat’s hem in place, or else the coat would’ve drooped down the moment he opened his mouth, completely covering his mask. That scene probably would’ve cracked everyone up.
“Our comrade Blue Arc isn’t back yet, huh? What a pain…”
Ji Minghuan yawned and mumbled in the dark.
He knew in his heart—Gu Qiye couldn’t have moved that fast. After all, unlike him, Gu Qiye was an officially employed Reality-altering Esper.
Gu Qiye had to the mission and file details with the Association, especially since he had just ditched Green Wing to meet Ji Minghuan, who was playing Cocoon Man, alone in a remote alley off Lijing Square.
Even though Green Wing had already fallen into a trap—surrounded on all sides by the Reality-altering Espers squad—Gu Qiye’s actions were still questionable.
Especially considering Ji Minghuan had just used suggestive lines like “Wanna come talk to me?”—it wouldn’t be hard for others to assume that Cocoon Man had invited Blue Arc for a shady meeting.
That place had no surveillance, was far from residential and urban zones, and no one could’ve heard their conversation. So the Association would definitely grill Gu Qiye about it, wanting to get to the bottom of this mysterious Esper that had suddenly shown up.
Of course, Ji Minghuan wasn’t worried this would cause any real trouble for Gu Qiye.
He figured Gu Qiye would just play dumb in front of the higher-ups—or rather, had no choice but to.
After all, from Gu Qiye’s point of view, this mysterious “Cocoon Man” still knew his identity and motives. If he fully disclosed their conversation in the , the one in danger wouldn’t be Cocoon Man—it’d be Gu Qiye himself.
Only an idiot would lay out everything from that talk.
And Gu Qiye clearly wasn’t dumb enough to make that mistake.
So, when questioned by the Association, he’d probably just make an excuse like “I got injured, slowed down, and lost him,” especially since he had just participated in two Esper crime capture operations and was badly wounded. That would be his get-out-of-jail-free card.
Given his injuries and past achievements, the Association folks wouldn’t push too hard. They’d likely just send him home to recover and temporarily shelve the matter.
Rain started falling outside the window.
The rain pattered steadily. Ji Minghuan opened his eyes, staring absentmindedly at the glass now streaked with raindrops.
Large drops pounded the eaves, shattering into mist, crawling up the window.
After a moment, he raised a hand and tapped the gear icon in the lower-right corner of his vision, opening the System Panel and pulling up the Main Quest.
【Main Quest 1 (Stage Two): Establish a cooperative relationship with the Reality-altering Esper “Blue Arc,” and develop your network within the Esper Association. (Incomplete)】
Getting Gu Qiye to trust him at this point was basically impossible—let alone the fact that their cooperation hadn’t officially started yet—so the quest was still sitting in “pending” status.
But Ji Minghuan wasn’t in a rush. After all, the initiative was always in his hands.
As long as his real body wasn’t dissected by those b****** in the lab, he had all the time in the world to mess around in Lijing with this body.
Based on what he knew of Gu Qiye, earning his trust was only a matter of time.
And if that trust never came? Then Ji Minghuan would play dirty—throw out conditions Gu Qiye couldn’t refuse and turn “cooperation” into one-sided “coercion.” After all, his real body was still in a life-or-death situation. He didn’t have time to play house with these people.
“Oh right… I just got a quest reward.” Ji Minghuan’s eyes lit up.
He remembered completing the first stage of the Main Quest—“Find out what secret Gu Qiye is hiding”—and receiving his rewards: 1 Split Point, 1 Skill Point, and 1 Attribute Point. Sounded pretty generous.
He sat up from bed and opened his personal panel. Lines of dense text crawled over his vision like ants.
