Sacrifice Ten minutes ago, in the sky above the Abandoned Urban Area.
The Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud extended a pale hand, like that of a giant, seemingly wanting to touch the buildings in Great Abyss City.
However, the moment it reached out, it was repelled by the Starlight Barrier.
Countless cracks, like those on shattered porcelain, instantly appeared on its arm.
With a
crack
, it broke apart, and the fragments transformed into dozens of miniature, crack-covered versions of the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud, following beside it.
Even though it clearly had no eyes, Lu Yu could feel it gazing greedily at the living creatures on the ground.
Is it going to attack?
Lu Yu couldn't help but hold his breath, his nerves stretched taut.
But in the next moment, the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud did not continue its assault.
Instead, it changed direction, concealed its form, and returned toward the Abandoned Urban Area.
"It seems it's also afraid of the Alliance's power…"
Seeing this, Lu Yu couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.
If a real fight broke out, he couldn't just shout, "Stop fighting, stop fighting!" After all, this thing could actually kill people.
Fortunately, Great Abyss City's foundation was far stronger than he had imagined.
The Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud couldn't even threaten the city; it was directly repelled and injured. This wasn't a battle of equals—they were on completely different levels.
No wonder it has stood firm on the Borderlands for so many years without falling.
Lu Yu was pleasantly surprised by this.
After all, his identity could be considered a pure-blooded member of the Alliance. Rounding up, he was practically a future successor to the Alliance—even if he might not actually inherit anything, he could at least go cling to a golden thigh if he couldn't make it on his own.
"Little Mouse is suffocating!"
The Hamster struggled to squeeze its fluffy head out from Lu Yu's hands. Peeking through the gap, its small eyes revealed its happiness.
"Phew… It's finally over. That big guy has been coming out more and more frequently lately.
I wonder what it's peeking at on the city's outskirts every day. Does it want to go inside and play, just like Little Mouse?"
Hearing this, Lu Yu was shocked.
"Wait, are you saying this isn't the first time it has approached the city?"
"Yeah, this guy came with that group of people dressed in black. It comes out to wander around every few days, and each time it gets a little closer to the city.
It's so scary. But the stuff those guys left behind after their ritual was pretty tasty.
It even gave me the ability to control shadows," the Little Mouse said, wiping its drool.
This answer stunned Lu Yu.
A flash of insight struck him, and he grasped a clue, quickly asking, "When did you become a Transcendent Creature?"
"By your human time, I think it was about two and a half months ago…"
The Little Mouse answered without hesitation. After all, lazing around and waiting for death every day was stressful, so it remembered the time very clearly.
As it spoke, it subconsciously wriggled its body, getting into a more convenient position to be petted by Lu Yu, but then it suddenly froze.
What's happening!?
When did I become shaped like this Pervert Cultivator!
Did this human use some kind of illusion to confuse my mind?
Or was it… what I saw on TV back at my first little girl master's house…
Corruption?
The Little Mouse's eyes dimmed, and it entered a self-isolating mode.
Lu Yu, however, paid it no mind. He narrowed his eyes, having discovered an important clue he had overlooked:
'The information on the Little Mouse from the Eye of Truth mentioned that it transformed after secretly eating the blood of a Servitor from an Evil God's sacrificial ritual.
'
The Alliance's public information stated that the Abandoned Urban Area was deserted because an Evil God Servitor was killed there, and the battlefield was corroded by Iron Rust. Coupled with the fact that the Abandoned Urban Area had been quiet for decades, he hadn't initially considered that there might be a Seal within it.
Lu Yu had thought the Little Mouse had eaten the Servitor's blood somewhere else and then fled to the Abandoned Urban Area, a place where demonic beasts coexisted.
But in reality, if one thought about it carefully, a problem emerged…
Although Iron Rust was troublesome, could the cost of removing it really be higher than rebuilding a new city?
Impossible!
In a world where pet beasts were integrated into every industry, they could have easily used some Rust-Eating Pet Beasts to clean it up.
The fact that the Alliance didn't do so indicated that there was some unstable factor in the Abandoned Urban Area, something that could cause even greater losses. Yet, they didn't move far away; instead, they built a new city right next to it.
It was said to be a buffer zone, but it was more like they were watching over something.
For instance, perhaps that Evil God Servitor from decades ago wasn't killed, but sealed within.
With the new city being so close, they could monitor the situation at all times. If the entity broke the seal, they could use the Hundred Beasts Tower to suppress it immediately.
Then everything would make sense.
Based on the time the Shadow Clipping Rat told him, the numerous clues formed a complete timeline in his mind:
Two and a half months ago, mysterious people arrived with the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud, found the location where the Evil God Servitor was sealed, and performed a sacrifice, but they ultimately failed to break the seal.
The reason they could let demonic beasts occupy the Abandoned Urban Area without worrying about the seal being broken was likely because the core of the seal was within Great Abyss City—most probably in that guardian-like Myriad Beast Tower of the Starry Host.
Therefore, they could only hide in the Abandoned Urban Area, looking for an opportunity to destroy the Myriad Beast Tower of the Starry Host.
But because a powerful demonic beast like the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud needed to feed on a large number of souls periodically, it would often come out to hunt. The soulless corpses it left behind would naturally be devoured by other demonic beasts, and the vast Spirituality would promote their evolution.
For example, causing a certain individual among the Maddened Blood Hyenas to suppress its madness and evolve into a Frenzied Blood Hyena. After gaining intelligence, it discovered the existence of the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud and, out of fear, came to occupy the edge of the Abandoned Urban Area where demonic beasts were scarce, in order to avoid being hunted.
Unfortunately, the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud did not hunt by instinct; it was being controlled by someone from behind the scenes. Thus, its feeding path would draw ever closer to the edge of Great Abyss City, testing the power of the Hundred Beasts Tower.
Each time it arrived, the Maddened Blood Hyenas, with their keen instincts and Tentacle-enhanced senses, would feel the danger.
Madness didn't mean a brainless suicide mission; they might even regain their Reason out of fear.
Facing the suppression of a higher-level demonic beast, these creatures of low intelligence would instinctively flee in the opposite direction, crashing into the Rune Iron Net that separated the territories.
The reason for this deduction wasn't just Lu Yu's wild guessing.
When he was here before, he had seen the Rune Iron Net. Although it had been attacked, the damage was mostly chaotic, and in different locations each time, like panicked scratch marks left by terrified Maddened Blood Hyenas.
After this was discovered by the homeowners of the Jade Community, it still caused a panic, and they jointly issued a mission—to exterminate the Maddened Blood Hyenas.
But even so, after an ordinary person completed the mission, even if they witnessed the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud, they would at most assume that a terrifying demonic beast had taken up residence in the Abandoned Urban Area.
Even the officials were likely unaware of their specific objective, probably thinking that, like other Evil God Cults, they wanted to attack the city and sacrifice humans.
But Lu Yu, using the information provided by the Eye of Truth, managed to connect all these fragmented incidents.
He discovered that this Evil God Cult was different from the minor skirmishes of the past. Not only did they know about the seal's existence, but they had also collected some of the Servitor's blood.
At the same time, they were using the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud to test the operating mechanism of the High Tower, attempting to destroy it and seize the opportunity to release the sealed Evil God Servitor.
If they succeeded, the millions of people in Great Abyss City could all be sacrificed, becoming fodder for the Evil God.
"Why does this feel so much like I've become the investigator protagonist of a Detective Novel, stumbling right into an evil organization's plot…"
Lu Yu grumbled. He didn't know why his luck had been so bad ever since he transmigrated.
Are all handsome people targeted like this?
If so, then make it even worse, otherwise it wouldn't be worthy of these good looks!
Moreover, he discovered another problem.
If these mysterious Evil God cultists arrived two and a half months ago, and factoring in the time to prepare the ritual and excavate the Servitor's blood, it would coincide perfectly with the time his parents had their accident and he awakened the Eye of Truth.
Is this really just a coincidence?
Unfortunately, the Eye of Truth was not an eye of omniscience. The information it could obtain was still limited, making it impossible to investigate the enemy's origins and next steps.
But even if he knew, he wouldn't be like the protagonist of a Detective Novel, rashly getting involved in the schemes of such powerful figures with nothing but a heart full of passion.
In reality, there was no protagonist's plot armor.
A single careless mistake could get him killed.
What he could do was…
Call the police!
Use the Mist Raven to send an Anonymous Letter to the Alliance, writing down some intel to increase its credibility, and make them understand that the seal was being tampered with, and they must deal with this Evil God Cult with their full strength.
This was the Drive the Tiger to Devour the Wolf Strategy.
Even if it couldn't annihilate them, it could suppress them enough to make them retreat into their shells, unable to carry out their plan.
This would buy him more safe time to increase his strength.
"I'm still too weak. To miss such a good opportunity."
Lu Yu sighed.
If he had strength above the Morning Star rank, he could have extracted the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud, or even that sealed Evil God Servitor, as material.
To a Capitalist, not earning is losing.
Has it left?
After waiting for a while, he looked up at the sky and found that although the Soul-Snatching Demonic Cloud had flown far away, the Offspring that had split from its shattered pale arm had not returned. Instead, they descended upon the earth and began to attack the demonic beasts indiscriminately.
"
Gurgle, gurgle…
"
Because they possessed a special soul-interfering magnetic field, it was a complete Dimensionality Reduction Strike against ordinary demonic beasts. After stunning them, they would wrap their Tentacles around the target's head, wriggling and sucking out their souls.
As the demonic beasts fell one after another, the cracks on their bodies began to gradually repair themselves.
Lu Yu looked at these terrifying Offspring.
Not only did he feel no fear, but a bold idea surfaced in his mind…
New day, continuing to ask for Recommendation Tickets, Monthly Tickets, and likes. A bit of foreshadowing, an exciting new plot is about to begin.
Little Mouse's future abilities will be terrifying, feel free to guess. If you have good suggestions, you can leave a comment.
