Chapter 29: Working Hard to Recover, Let's Go to Uni Together
Based on what Gan Yanyu had previously shared and Lin Tian's own deductions, it was clear:
Although Grandpa Gan's car accident had only occurred this week, Gan Yanyu had been suffering from depression since her time in the UK.
The main reasons stemmed from the stress of living abroad alone, the conflict between her asthma and her dream of becoming a cellist, and the disadvantages she faced in competitions due to classical music's rigid demands.
All these factors had caused Gan Yanyu's physical health to deteriorate long before now.
In simple terms, her depression had manifested physically.
Loss of appetite, malnutrition, chronic fatigue, significant weight loss, and a weakened immune system—these were just some of the symptoms.
This somatization was terrifying. What started as a mental illness gradually began manifesting outwardly through physical ailments.
After returning to Zhonghua, Grandpa Gan's accident and her parents' reappearance pushed everything over the edge.
Her condition worsened, leading to even more severe physical manifestations.
Her weight—just 80 pounds—spoke volumes about her current state.
Though Gan Yanyu's mental state had largely stabilized, restoring her physical health would require immense effort.
"Exercise?" Gan Yanyu looked stunned.
"Yes."
Lin Tian continued, "At this rate, by the time I take my university entrance exam, you won't even be back at school."
"University entrance exam?"
"Exactly. Are you planning for me to go through it alone while you repeat another year?"
Lin Tian's tone turned serious. "We're partners, aren't we? We should obviously take the exam together."
As soon as those words left his mouth, Gan Yanyu's pupils dilated.
Her face flushed ever so slightly.
So Lin Tian had already thought that far ahead…
For the first time, Gan Yanyu deeply felt the weight of the word "partner" when it came to Lin Tian.
But—
Though they called themselves partners, Lin Tian had been the one putting in all the effort. He'd secured the crucial recording equipment with just a single phone call.
And here she was, burdened by injuries and illnesses, feeling like nothing but dead weight.
"Are we applying to universities in the same city?" Gan Yanyu murmured softly.
Lin Tian hadn't expected the girl to dive into such deep thought about this.
Still, he quickly found an answer.
"Of course. Isn't that only natural?"
Lin Tian stepped forward, placing both hands firmly on her shoulders.
"Not only will we apply to places in the same city, but if possible, we'll attend the same university."
"Think about it—you promised to make videos with me. If we get famous and aren't in the same place, how inconvenient would it be to record, film, or meet fans?"
"And besides…" Lin Tian smirked. "You've got a history of trouble. If I'm not around, who knows—one day you might jump off a building. How am I supposed to keep creating then? You need to stay close to me. That's the only way I can relax."
Lin Tian spoke with such conviction and authority that Gan Yanyu's earlier bitterness melted away. She nearly burst out laughing, her delicate features lighting up.
"You could always find someone else to play the cello," Gan Yanyu teased, trying to suppress her growing joy.
"No way. I only want your cello skills. Nobody else will do."
"Fine."
"So…"
Lin Tian pressed down gently on her shoulders again. "Starting today, take better care of yourself, okay?"
"That's something I'd do anyway, even without you telling me."
Gan Yanyu grabbed Lin Tian's hands, moving them off her shoulders. Her voice carried a hint of stubbornness but also warmth.
"Alright."
Lin Tian smiled. "Then starting tomorrow, follow my plan. I'll accompany you during workouts. Let's aim to recover within a month so you can return to school."
In truth, Lin Tian's earlier comments about the university entrance exam reflected his genuine thoughts.
There were only a few months left until the exam—time was flying by.
Lin Tian currently ranked among the top students in his school.
For Gan Yanyu, catching up enough to attend the same university as him would undoubtedly be challenging.
However—
In Gan Yanyu's attribute list, while her cello skill was rated [A+], her learning ability reached a terrifying [S-level].
Given her exceptional talent in cello, it wasn't hard to imagine how strong her academic abilities must be.
Lin Tian trusted her completely.
If Gan Yanyu could adjust her mindset and return to school soon, she'd undoubtedly catch up academically.
"No," Gan Yanyu said suddenly.
"What do you mean, no?"
"A month is too long. Let's make it two weeks."
"Are you sure?"
"When I was in middle school, I used to work out regularly with Grandpa. I'm probably better at making plans than you are." Gan Yanyu's expression was earnest.
"Alright, then what should I do?"
At this question, Gan Yanyu fell silent.
When Lin Tian glanced at her curiously, he noticed a rare flicker of shyness cross her face.
"Can I ask you to cook meals regularly?"
Gan Yanyu twirled a strand of hair around her finger nervously. "Your cooking… tastes good."
Before the recording equipment arrived, their rehabilitation plan kicked off over the remaining weekend.
Gan Yanyu lived alone in Grandpa Gan's old house now. Every morning, she knocked on Lin Tian's door promptly after waking up.
When he opened the door, he'd see Gan Yanyu standing there, her hair tied neatly into a single ponytail, wearing her school uniform, holding breakfast she'd bought, urging him to join her for a morning run.
For Lin Tian, this routine felt invigorating.
It almost felt like they were newlyweds.
After running in the morning, Lin Tian prepared lunch and invited Gan Yanyu over to eat.
To ensure Gan Yanyu recovered smoothly, Lin Tian studied nutrition on TikTok and researched ingredients and recipes scientifically.
Vegetables included tomatoes, carrots, and mushrooms; proteins featured chicken breast, shrimp, and various organ meats. He also boiled soups with goji berries and porridge made from whole grains.
It was practically a ten-course feast designed to nourish every inch of her body.
Nutritious to the point of excess.
After dinner, they rested briefly before beginning the second phase of their workout.
They started with a jog of one kilometer, followed by advanced training using the community fitness equipment.
Gan Yanyu's determination exceeded Lin Tian's expectations. By the time Lin Tian, a man, was ready to give up, Gan Yanyu still wanted to push forward.
The consequences of sudden intense exercise were predictable.
"Ow…"
The next day.
Gan Yanyu lay sprawled on Lin Tian's couch, unmoving.
"It hurts so much…"
She let out a pitiful groan.
Even the seemingly invincible Gan Yanyu finally succumbed to pain.
Lin Tian approached, looking down at her limp form with resignation.
"Where does it hurt?"
"My legs, back, arms, butt…"
"So basically everywhere?"
"My legs hurt the most…"
"Well, this is the result of your plan. Are you still planning to train today?"
Lin Tian's voice carried a teasing tone.
Gan Yanyu reached out silently, grabbing a pillow from the side and covering her head with it.
Like she wanted to hide in a hole.
"I'm sorry…"
Truthfully, Lin Tian did have some insights about exercising.
Any man who lives alone for a long time inevitably tries fitness or learns a thing or two about working out.
One important rule stood out:
After exercising, it's best to manually relax the muscles worked on. Otherwise, the soreness the next day would be unbearable.
