Chapter 33: Chapter 34 – “We Went on a Ferris Wheel Date and Accidentally Confessed... in the Wrong Direction”
1. Walking into a ticking romantic timebomb
When the Student Council suggested a "couples’ outing" to the Magical Moonlight Festival, I assumed it meant something tame—like eating cotton candy or taking cheesy photos with spray snow.
Instead, I found myself standing under a Ferris wheel lit with neon moons, glitching like it was held together by wishful thinking and bad wiring.
Everyone kept whispering things like:
"This ride reveals your true feelings."
"If you confess at the top, it’ll echo in your soul."
"Don’t puke."
Of course, two girls volunteered to ride with me—without asking if I had emotional insurance.
2. The setup: Heart rate ≈ 200 BPM
At exactly 8:07 p.m., I boarded the cabin with:
Ayaka, steely-eyed and arms folded, chakra visibly coiling beneath her jacket.
Mirelle, expression icy, dressed in moonlit whites and frost-blue hair.
The cabin door clicked shut. The moment the ride began lifting me toward emotional orbit, I realized:
This was going to be emotional aviation. I wasn’t trained.
The cable car groaned upward. The music in the background changed to a haunting lullaby I’d never heard—until now it wired into my feelings and made everything worse.
Each tick upward felt like fate calling me out.
3. A confession volley (back and forth)
At the apex, when the city lights were speckled below us like fireflies...
Ayaka spoke first. Breathy. Determined.
"You once tripped in rain boots at my house when we were kids. You blamed it on awkward timing. But you blush like that whenever you’re with me—and you defend me like it’s your job."
I choked on embarrassment.
She glared. "Your embarrassment makes me love you... but don’t let it ruin things."
Then Mirelle turned, soft-spoken but fierce.
"I forced snow into your hair last winter to hear you laugh. But the truth is... I pet your scarf when you weren’t looking. I don’t know why—maybe because you make everything feel warmer, even when I freeze."
My brain short-circuited. I 100% forgot basic math.
Then I... lost it.
My internal panic meltdown pressed the wrong button—instead of saying who I loved, I shouted:
"I think I’m in love with... the lady operating the Ferris wheel!"
Dead silence.
The Ferris wheel chattered, as if shocked by my tone.
Ayaka’s jaw dropped.
Mirelle’s eyes froze me mid-thought.
The ride creaked, threatening to drop me into the abyss of regret.
4. The meltdown spiral (5 minutes of pure cringe)
Once the cabin descended, Ayaka and Mirelle basically surrounded me in a mutual cone of scathing disappointment.
Ayaka hissed: "You think confessing to a magical cabin attendant will save you...?"
Mirelle whispered: "You didn’t mean anything you said to me—did you?"
My emotional lying regime collapsed.
I stammered, "I panicked! It was recoil language—sarcasm! Just... sorry?"
Ayaka sighed. "Your idea of clarity haunts me."
Mirelle’s glare froze the air next to me.
I floated upward in shame.
5. Post-Ride Emotional landmines
When we disembarked, the festival grounds already looked like a watery dreamscape—floating lanterns, magical koi swirling above us, vendor booths with mysterious potions.
But the emotional damage spread faster than night festival lights.
Ayaka strolled away first. She whispered: "Just... don’t trip next time."
Mirelle gathered snowflakes swirling around her and vanished.
I stood there holding a festival balloon that said "Confession Terminal", which probably meant "you messed up."
6. After-school debrief, or emotional triage
By 9 p.m., I was slumped at my desk, still in uniform, re-reading my failed Ferris wheel text to my mom:
"G—G festival was... weird. Ate cotton candy. Kissed sky. Panic. Send ramen."
That afternoon, Lilith dropped in through the window and lit a candle.
"You’re alive. That means someone saved you."
She forwarded a folder titled "Advanced Emotional Panic Prevention Protocols."
I dorsed it under my pillow.
7. Unexpected, heartfelt message from Arisu
Late that night, I found a scrap of paper tucked in my locker that read:
"Kazuki, you’re not made for timed confessions—but if someone can handle your chaos, it’s one of us."
Signed: Arisu
No punctuation. Just emotional gravity.
My heart – if it wasn’t too busy shorting circuits – would have thanked her.
8. Kazuki’s internal monologue (because obviously)
As I walked home under cherry blossoms, semi-hangry and emotionally unstable, I thought:
I misfired on confession
I’d upset two girls I kinda... care about
I still can’t pick anything except the worst coping method: sarcasm
But somewhere near the park, I looked at the flickering blossoms—and thought:
Maybe I’m meant to be lost. Maybe clarity will find me later. Or maybe... I’ll just freeze up all over again.
Sigh.
✅ Call to Action:
🎡 Do you think Kazuki really meant Ayaka or Mirelle when he panicked?
💋 Should he ask them again... at another freaking Ferris wheel, or just send Arisu a text?
