Chapter 38

Chapter 38: Chapter 39 – “You Can’t Just Kidnap Someone to Prove You’re Wife Material!”
🔁 Recap – Chapter 39
Previously, Kazuki woke up mid-air in a flaming peacock-drawn chariot, kidnapped—again—by the ever-dramatic Mirelle, who was determined to prove she was the ideal waifu. Her chosen method? A "Perfect Wife Trial" that somehow involved baking cursed cookies over a lava lake. If that wasn’t insane enough, each cookie was enchanted with dangerous magic (and one was literally shaped like his face). Mirelle’s version of affection was somewhere between a baking show and a summoning ritual.
Just as things got hotter (in every sense of the word), Ayaka crashed the party—descending like a wrathful goddess and launching a one-woman war to reclaim Kazuki. Their magic duel shook the realm: fire wolves, shadow chains, transformation spells—chaos incarnate. Kazuki, as usual, was not consulted.
The battle ended in a backyard crater, with half the lawn on fire and Kazuki covered in love crumbs and unresolved emotional trauma.
To make matters worse, when he returned to his room to recover, he found Evangeline—the seductive vampire noble—already waiting in his bed, flipping through a magazine and scheduling his seduction like it was a dentist appointment.
Now, the stakes (and the hormones) have never been higher.
☀️ Scene 1 – Waking Up on Fire... Sort Of
Kazuki groaned awake, his head pounding like he’d done shots of magical coffee and shame. Something was... off.
For starters, the sky was too close.
And upside down.
He blinked, realizing he was in a gondola made of gold, pulled through the air by flaming peacocks. Actual peacocks. With fire feathers. One looked back at him and winked.
He flinched.
Taped to his forehead was a note.
"Borrowed your virginity. Just kidding. Only your afternoon. 💋 – Mirelle"
"MIRELLE!"
"Good morning, sleeping beauty!" she chirped, sitting across from him in a tiny red dress made entirely of enchanted rose petals and confidence. "You fainted mid-confession yesterday. So I thought, ’Hey! Let’s make some real memories!’"
Kazuki glanced around. No ground. No railing. No sanity.
"This is illegal in like twelve countries."
She offered him a pastry. It sizzled. "It’s a volcanic croissant. I added love essence."
"You mean cinnamon?"
She leaned closer. "I mean literal essence of affection extracted from a marriage demon’s tears. Aisle seven at LoveMart."
Kazuki tried not to combust. Literally.
🔥 Scene 2 – The Love Compatibility Trial
They landed on a floating obsidian platform suspended above a bubbling volcano lake. Giant floating rocks formed a shaky bridge. In the middle stood an altar, an oven... and a picnic blanket with cushions shaped like hearts.
"Welcome," Mirelle announced dramatically, "to the Trial of the Perfect Wife!"
"Why does everything sound like an anime episode title?"
"Because this is real love war, Kazuki. Ayaka thinks she can just seduce you with charm spells and teacups. But I have something better."
"Lava?"
She pulled out a baking tray.
"Cookies."
He stared.
"You’re proving you’re girlfriend material by baking cookies in a volcano."
"I could just murder Ayaka. But this is more fun."
He sighed. "You kidnapped me to bake cookies."
"No. I abducted you romantically. Big difference."
Mirelle cracked eggs made of dragon yolk and stirred in hell-flour and phoenix sugar. Kazuki helped reluctantly, wiping ash off his sleeves.
One cookie exploded.
"Oops! Love bomb. Extra affection." She winked. "Don’t eat unless you’re ready to fall harder."
Kazuki looked at the charred cookie with terror. "That one’s shaped like my face."
"I know," she said dreamily. "The oven ships it with a soul mold when you’re destined."
"WHAT?!"
😈 Scene 3 – Ayaka’s Glorious, Furious Arrival
Just as Mirelle was about to shove a heart-shaped cookie into his mouth, the air cracked open like a mirror being punched from the inside.
A figure stepped through the fissure: Ayaka. Floating. Radiant. Pissed.
Hair flowing in curls of shadow flame, her silk robe transformed midair into a war-form kimono stitched with demon runes. Her heels landed with a click that echoed through the realm.
"Mirelle."
Mirelle flinched.
"You borrowed something of mine," Ayaka said coldly. "I want it back."
Kazuki stood up, hands raised. "I am not a lunchbox, guys—"
Ayaka didn’t blink. "You kissed him."
"You drugged him!"
"Truth magic is not a drug, it’s consent extraction."
"Oh, please, you were practically drooling!"
"I have resting seductive face!"
The air thickened. Runes formed. Spells charged. The temperature dipped and spiked in the same breath.
Kazuki: "Wait, wait, we’re doing this here?!"
"Yes," they both said.
💥 Scene 4 – Magic Girl Fight: Stepmom vs. Fire Princess
Ayaka summoned a shadow chain whip, the ends barbed with nightmare roses. Mirelle countered with a pyro-blade fan, her dress transforming into full battle flame-armor. The clash of elements nearly blew the platform off its axis.
Spells exploded. The air bent. Time wobbled.
Ayaka launched dark spheres that turned rock to glass
Mirelle screamed and summoned a fire wolf with wings
Ayaka snapped her fingers and it turned into a puppy
Mirelle tried to hug Kazuki mid-duel
Ayaka teleported him into her arms instead
"I AM NOT A PRIZE!" Kazuki yelled.
"You’re more than a prize," Ayaka whispered into his ear. "You’re mine."
"Oh HELL no!" Mirelle launched herself into a flaming uppercut.
Kazuki ducked. "WHY IS THIS MY LIFE?!"
🧯 Scene 5 – Crashing Down to Earth (Again)
The duel ended when all three of them crash-landed in the backyard, scorched, covered in magical ash, and smelling like burnt marshmallows.
The lawn was on fire. Again.
Kazuki lay flat on the grass, face covered in cookie dough and lipstick.
Ayaka sat beside him, gently brushing his hair.
"Still breathing?"
"Barely."
"Good. Don’t ever leave home without telling me again."
"You’re not my mom."
She paused. "No. But I am your wife."
"Stop saying things like that casually!!"
🦴 Scene 6 – Later That Night... Unexpected Guest
Kazuki stumbled into his room later, only to find a very familiar scent.
Lavender.
He turned on the light.
Evangeline—the vampire noble—was curled on his bed, reading a magazine upside-down.
"Oh. You’re early," she said. "I was going to seduce you at midnight."
"WHAT?!"
She patted the pillow beside her. "It’s fine. I’ll adjust the schedule."
Kazuki fainted.

☕ Interlude: Kazuki vs. the Magical Teacup (Again)
Kazuki sat at the breakfast table, bleary-eyed and emotionally drained, his entire soul begging for just one—just one—normal morning.
Spoiler: Not happening.
A freshly brewed cup of tea sat before him. It looked innocent. Steam curled upward like a friendly ghost. The porcelain was painted with delicate sakura blossoms. There was even a smiley face charm tied to the handle with pink string.
He narrowed his eyes.
Last time he drank tea in this house, it turned his voice into a high-pitched squeak for two hours. Before that, it made him confess his deepest secrets in iambic pentameter. And before that, it temporarily gave him a tail.
He wasn’t falling for it again.
"This is a trap," he muttered under his breath.
"It’s chamomile," Ayaka said sweetly from across the table, wearing an apron that said "Kiss the Queen." Her eyes glinted with amusement. "Very good for stress. You’ve had a lot of that lately."
Kazuki arched a suspicious brow. "Stress? I’ve had vampire intruders, demon cooking duels, and a flame spirit trying to ’wife me up’ with lava cookies."
"So you agree. You need the tea."
He folded his arms. "No offense, but I’d rather drink from a suspicious puddle outside than trust anything brewed in this kitchen."
Mirelle burst in wearing Kazuki’s hoodie like a dress, balancing toast between her teeth like a shōnen protagonist. "Mornin’ lovebirds!" She winked at Ayaka. "Nice apron. Real subtle."
Ayaka smiled politely. "Thank you. I designed it with my future in mind."
Kazuki could practically hear the sparks flying between them.
The cup of tea sat between them all, steaming, smug.
Airi appeared behind him like a vengeful spirit, holding a clipboard. "Statistically, the tea is safer than your current cortisol levels. Drink it."
Kazuki glanced at her. "Since when do you use stats to manipulate me?"
"Since you refused the emotional manipulation," she replied flatly.
He stared at the cup again. Was it... glowing? Why was it glowing?
"Alright, fine," he said, grabbing the cup with dramatic flair. "If I turn into a rabbit again, I’m suing someone."
He took a sip.
Pause.
"Oh," he blinked. "That’s... nice."
Ayaka looked pleased. Mirelle looked shocked. Airi scribbled something on her clipboard.
Then Kazuki’s eyes widened. "Wait—why does it taste like—why do I feel—why is my hair floating—?!"
A second later, the entire house lit up with an explosion of magical sparkles, hearts, and floating teacups. Kazuki shot up from his seat, yelling in a voice that now echoed like a dramatic stage actor:
"I DECLARE THIS CUP... A LIQUID LIE!"
Ayaka sipped her tea calmly.
"Side effect," she said. "You’ll be monologuing for the next ten minutes."

Spoiler: It’s not who he thinks.
There will be spilled secrets. Shirtless chaos. Magically exploding pillows.
And at least three girls claiming, in front of each other, that Kazuki is theirs.
