My Wife is an Evil Dragon-Chapter 23

Chapter 23

Chapter 23: The Perils of the Human Heart
Lucia didn’t like this kind of drink that would attack people.
She silently added the drink called ‘cola’ to her blacklist. Whenever she saw Xia Li open a cola bottle, Lucia would hide far away.
It wasn’t that she was afraid.
A dragon wouldn’t be afraid of such a small thing.
It’s just… it’s just that the feeling of it rushing into her nose wasn’t very pleasant.
And besides the sweet taste, it didn’t seem to have anything special, and it would even attack her little tongue when she drank it.
The poor dragon didn’t know that she was being pranked by Xia Li, she only thought that there was something wrong with the cola.
Lucia came out of the bathroom after washing her face.
A few strands of wet hair stuck to her cheeks, and her already fair face was flushed with a moist glow. Paired with her somewhat dazed eyes, she looked rather pitiful.
Xia Li was washing dishes in the kitchen. Seeing Lucia standing at the kitchen door peeking at him, he called out.
“Lucia, come here quickly, I’ll teach you how to wash dishes.”
“Oh…”
Lucia walked in with small steps.
She had just seen Xia Li put all the cola into the refrigerator in the kitchen, so she deliberately avoided it when passing by.
“This is dish soap, this is a dishcloth, you have to use them together like this.”
Xia Li turned on the hot water, demonstrating and explaining to Lucia as he went.
He had now made Lucia understand that to get what she wanted, she needed to earn money with her own hands, and then use the money to trade.
But Xia Li could only tell her this concept, as for how to earn money specifically, he hadn’t figured that out yet.
As for Lucia’s advantages over ordinary people…
Besides eating more, was it that she was stronger than others?
Maybe being a food live streamer or moving bricks at a construction site wouldn’t be bad?
But now live streaming required real-name authentication, and Lucia didn’t even have an ID card. Forget about live streaming, even if she went to a construction site to move bricks, no one would hire her.
Moreover, even if someone was willing to hire her for such an undocumented job, Xia Li was reluctant to let her do it.
Lucia’s common sense was still lacking, a trip outside could leave her little face in shock for a long time, so going out to work, it was better to wait until she could fully integrate into this society.
For now…
Let her start with the most basic housework.
“Dish soap can create bubbles, just like the hand soap you used earlier.”
Xia Li rubbed the dishcloth in his hand, then showed the dense foam inside to Lucia.
Lucia stood on her tiptoes to look, and Xia Li continued, “This foam can remove the grease from the bowls. After all the dirt in the bowls is gone, you rinse off the foam.”
“Like this, a bowl is washed.”
While talking, Xia Li had already finished washing the pot as well.
He left a stainless steel basin for Lucia to wash. In order to let the short dragon reach the sink, Xia Li deliberately took half a step back, making space for her.
“You try it.”
“Isn’t this the basin I ate from earlier?”
Lucia saw the basin as if she was seeing an old friend.
Although she had only used it once, it seemed she would have to rely on this guy to beg… eat in the future.
“If I lick it clean enough, wouldn’t I not have to wash it?”
Lucia looked at the pool of bubbles, unable to bring herself to do it.
“What are you thinking!” Xia Li said helplessly, and gently knocked her on the head.
“Even if you lick it clean, you still have to wash it… and, no licking the bowl!”
“Oh, alright then.” Lucia’s tone was even more helpless than Xia Li’s.
This brave hero was indeed still fierce.
She, a dragon, hadn’t even been fierce yet.
She tried putting her hand into the pool full of bubbles and stirring it around. Under the foam was warm water, it felt quite comfortable to put her hand in.
If it were in Azure Continent, Lucia definitely wouldn’t put her hand in this kind of bubbling pool.
She had seen her kind being cut into pieces by wizards and put into those big vats to stew, and those vats would have this kind of suspicious bubbles.
◈◈◈
Therefore, Lucia had a shadow about bubbles.
But today, she had come into contact with bubbles that could be drunk and bubbles used for bathing.
Xia Li said it was safe, so she wasn’t afraid.
Lucia didn’t know why Xia Li’s casual words could make her let go of her instinctive vigilance.
It was like she was unconditionally believing the words of a human.
This feeling was difficult for her, a pureblood giant dragon, to understand.
At this time, Lucia didn’t know what ‘trust’ and ‘dependence’ meant.
But she didn’t reject this feeling.
“Xia Li, I’m done washing!”
After repeatedly scrubbing the stainless steel basin clean of bubbles until its surface was shiny and bright, Lucia shook off the water droplets and held it up for Xia Li to see.
“Hmm, not bad, from now on, you wash the stainless steel ones, I’ll wash the ceramic ones.”
“Okay.” Lucia didn’t hesitate much and nodded in agreement.
Seeing her readily agree, Xia Li bent down and opened the cupboard, put away the ceramic bowls he had just washed, and then took out stainless steel bowls and plates from the cupboard, even the chopsticks were replaced with stainless steel ones.
“From now on, our family will use stainless steel tableware.” Xia Li said.
The old house Xia Li was currently living in was his old home from elementary school. Later, he happened to go to university nearby, so he applied to live at home.
There were bowls and dishes that had been phased out more than ten years ago. Because the material and quality were good, they could still be used.
Lucia: “…”
“A-all have to be replaced with this kind of metal?”
Lucia had a sad look on her little face.
Xia Li nodded, “The ceramic ones break easily if dropped, so let’s change to stainless steel.”
Because Xia Li said it so matter-of-factly, Lucia didn’t notice anything wrong.
It was a pity that she didn’t know what ‘the perils of the human heart’ meant at this time, otherwise she would have learned a new phrase on Earth.
“Lucia, how do you feel about living with me these past two days?”
Wiping the water from his hands, Xia Li’s tone suddenly became a little serious.
Lucia stared at the bubbles slowly disappearing in the sink and nodded slightly.
She hadn’t thought about the possibility of surviving on Earth alone.
Yesterday, if she hadn’t happened to meet Xia Li while stealing bread and been picked up by him, she would probably have been imprisoned by humans by now.
She would have been cooking for others in an iron cage where she couldn’t see the sun, and yet she wouldn’t be able to eat a single bite herself.
Just thinking about that kind of life made Lucia feel terrified.
“I think it’s quite good here.” Lucia said, raising her little head.
Actually, she was very grateful to Xia Li.
Grateful to him for making her a dragon’s lair, feeding her delicious fried rice cakes, and taking her to the human market for a stroll.
Lucia didn’t know how humans expressed gratitude.
But she knew that if she could transform into a dragon at this moment, she would be willing to pluck a few dragon scales and give them to Xia Li ━ this was the most common way for dragons to express their gratitude.
But this was Earth, so she didn’t have any dragon scales.
Lucia looked down at her flip-flops, her toes wiggling uneasily inside.
Come to think of it…
She seemed to have nothing, not even the most basic things to express her gratitude.
Wasn’t she just a freeloader now? And a particularly big eater at that.
Xia Li asking such a question… wasn’t he going to drive her away, was he?
