My Wife is an Evil Dragon-Chapter 27

Chapter 27

Chapter 27: Something’s Wrong
Xia Yuanjun only sat in Xia Li’s house for ten minutes before preparing to leave.
The main reason he came all this way to see Xia Li was to complete the task assigned by Fang Xia.
Now that the task was complete, he still had to rush back.
Before leaving, Xia Yuanjun went to the bathroom.
Xia Li stood guard at the door nervously.
When Xia Yuanjun came out, Xia Li deliberately observed the expression on his face. After seeing that there was nothing unusual, he breathed a sigh of relief.
“Dad, I’ll see you off.”
During the time Xia Li was in college, Old Xia often brought resources to feed him, and the father and son were already familiar with this mode of interaction.
Seeing that Old Xia was about to leave, Xia Li didn’t try to keep him, and even helped him open the door.
“Do you still have enough living expenses?”
“Yes, I still have some.”
“Tell me when you run out. You’re at an age where you need to spend money.”
“It’s enough, and I’m already planning to find a job. Don’t worry about these things.”
Before leaving, Xia Li secretly glanced in the direction of his bedroom.
He went downstairs to see Old Xia off. It would take ten minutes at most. Lucia was home alone… There shouldn’t be any problems.
“You haven’t asked for money from home since you went to college, and now you’re entering the stage of society, when you need money even more, but you’re still unwilling to take money from home. Your mother keeps telling me she’s afraid you’ll starve.”
Old Xia walked downstairs briskly, still muttering.
Xia Li smiled: “Didn’t I say I have a way to do part-time work? Now that the internet is so developed, there are many ways to make money.
And, isn’t this good? Sister Zhao next door uses me as an example in front of her son every day. I’m now half a ‘child from someone else’s family’.”
Xia Li’s tone was light. Old Xia turned around and glanced at him.
His son was just like this.
Independent and strong, but with a kind heart.
Xia Yuanjun was always afraid that Xia Li would suffer a lot after entering society.
“Okay, don’t see me off anymore. The car is parked right at the door.”
As they spoke, the two had arrived downstairs.
Xia Yuanjun skillfully pressed a button on the remote control in his trouser pocket, and the little white car parked not far away beeped twice.
“Do you need the car? Why don’t you practice driving? I’ll take a taxi back.”
Old Xia was always like this. He rarely expressed concern directly, basically relaying messages on behalf of Fang Xia, but every word that came out of his mouth was something Xia Li really needed. It could be seen that he was considering things from Xia Li’s perspective.
Faced with this question, Xia Li hesitated.
For someone who had never touched a car after getting a driver’s license, suddenly being given a car to drive was a bit stressful.
However, considering that Lucia didn’t have an ID card, the only way for her to travel far in the future would probably be by car, so Xia Li didn’t speak too definitively this time.
“I might need it later. I’ll come and drive it then. Don’t take a taxi today. There may not be any taxis willing to go that far.”
Xia Li opened the car door and sent Old Xia into the car.
Old Xia nodded without saying much.
As the car started, he added, “Come home for dinner when you have time. Your mother misses you.”
“Okay, I’ll come back when I’m done with these few days.” Xia Li nodded, watching the car start.
Xia Li didn’t look away until the little white car turned a corner and disappeared completely at the gate of the community.
Yesterday, when he traveled back to Earth, he didn’t have any real sense of it, always feeling adrift and unbelievable, even wondering if he had been hit by some kind of illusion magic.
But today, after seeing Old Xia, Xia Li felt a sense of solidity, as if that adventure in another world was the dream.
This sense of relief and peace deeply moved Xia Li.
Back home, Lucia had already gotten out of Xia Li’s bed.
She was hiding at the door of Xia Li’s room, and only relaxed when she saw that the person who came back was Xia Li.
“Was the one just now… also a great human?”
Lucia walked out from the door and asked in a low voice.
When she saw Xia Li communicating with other humans before, Xia Li only spoke in a more humble way.
But when Xia Li faced the middle-aged man just now, it was more than just ‘humility’.
It was almost submissive!
Xia Li’s attitude was as obedient as a human soldier talking to a sergeant!
“…”
Xia Li remembered that the family ties between dragons were very weak, and she probably wouldn’t understand even if he explained it to her.
◈◈◈
So he said it in a way Lucia could understand.
“Yes, he raised me. He is indeed a great human.”
“Oh…”
Lucia nodded vigorously, as if she really understood.
“Then I’ll be more polite to him in the future.”
◈◈◈
Xia Yuanjun drove for more than an hour before returning home.
He was lucky today. There was no traffic jam on the way back.
Fang Xia had just returned from the shop and was picking vegetables in the kitchen. She would start cooking in a while.
Xia Yuanjun put down his thermos and hurriedly showed his phone to Fang Xia.
“Xiao Xia, look at your son, he’s grown taller in just half a month!” Xia Yuanjun said excitedly.
“Huh? Xia Li can still grow taller?”
Fang Xia, who was squatting on the ground picking vegetables, wiped her hands and immediately became interested when she heard Xia Yuanjun say this.
“And how did he get so strong?”
In the photo, Xia Li was still sitting on the sofa with his usual expression. Facing Xia Yuanjun’s phone camera, he looked away uncomfortably.
Fang Xia knew her son all too well. She could detect every subtle change in Xia Li’s body.
Not only was he taller, his body was stronger… Even his temperament seemed to have changed.
If it weren’t for the fact that his handsome face hadn’t changed much, Fang Xia would have suspected that Xia Yuanjun had mistaken someone else for his son.
“Right? It’s only been a while, and he’s changed so much!” Xia Yuanjun exclaimed.
They still had their son’s graduation photo from June. Compared to the thin and tall Xia Li in the graduation photo, Xia Li now looked very healthy.
He was simply the ideal son in every mother’s heart.
“Huh? Wait…”
Fang Xia’s observation skills were not as careless as Xia Yuanjun’s. Her gaze moved away from Xia Li and scanned every corner of the photo.
Then she found something wrong.
“Why is there a plastic bag on the sofa in the living room?”
“Plastic bag?”
Xia Yuanjun took off his glasses and held his phone far away before he saw the plastic bag Fang Xia was talking about.
“What’s wrong with the plastic bag?”
“I’ve seen this brand of plastic bag in the mall,” Fang Xia said with certainty. “It’s from a shop that sells women’s underwear.”
“Our son has this kind of hobby?”
“…You, you’d rather suspect your son has a problem than suspect he’s dating???”
Fang Xia questioned Xia Yuanjun with an incredulous expression.
“Ahem,” Xia Yuanjun cleared his throat. “That shouldn’t be right. How could there be little girls’ things in his house?”
“Maybe he’s in love.”
Fang Xia re-examined the photo. Her sharp eyes narrowed slightly, giving her the air of a great detective like Sherlock Holmes.
Xia Yuanjun: “…”
“Xia Li is in his twenties. It’s normal for him to be dating, right?” Xia Yuanjun didn’t think there was anything wrong with that.
“It’s normal,” Fang Xia said, “but it’s not normal for him to hide it from us!”
Xia Yuanjun thought about it carefully, and it made sense.
Their family was so open-minded, and they would support Xia Li no matter what decision he made.
He was an adult now, why would he hide his relationship from his parents?
Thinking of Xia Li’s sudden disappearance for a week, even Xia Yuanjun felt that something was fishy.
“I remember…”
Suddenly, Xia Yuanjun had an epiphany.
“I went to the bathroom today and saw two toothbrushes hanging on Xia Li’s sink.
One was a blue adult toothbrush, and the other was a white toothbrush with a cat head on it!”
