My Wife is an Evil Dragon-Chapter 42

Chapter 42

Chapter 42: Blackie Speaks
“We’ve got our stories straight, right?”
“Don’t worry, Comrade Xia, I won’t eat this meal for nothing. I’ll handle your mom and my mom, guaranteed.”
“Then don’t let anything slip.”
“Got it, got it.”
The metal door on the second floor of the apartment complex, the same tetanus-prone one as Xia Li’s, was the home of Chen Tao and his parents.
Before leaving, Xia Li was still a bit uneasy, standing in front of Chen Tao’s door and emphasizing a few more points.
Chen Tao gave him two ‘OK’ hand gestures, full of confidence.
“Furry animal…”
Beside Xia Li, Lucia bent down, leaning in to look at the large, spotted dog squatting inside Chen Tao’s house.
The dog’s fur was black and white. Normally, when it saw its owner come home, it would enthusiastically jump up and lick his hand, and then lick his good brother’s hand as well.
But today, the big dog was different.
Its fluffy tail was tucked tightly between its legs, its body curled up against the wall. When it looked at Lucia, it was as if it saw a natural predator from its bloodline. Its blue-gray eyes were filled with fear and helplessness.
Lucia tilted her head.
This furry little animal seemed to dislike her.
Could it be afraid of her?
But that shouldn’t be the case. She was selective when eating animals. She rarely ate these furry and skinny ones.
At most, she would just play with it.
Hmm… If this were in Azure Continent, when encountering a four-legged animal like this, she would probably fold her wings and become a land dragon, running on her two hind legs to chase prey. Often, the prey would be scared to death and play dead. Lucia would quickly lose interest and move on to other targets.
This was one of the few outdoor activities for a dragon.
“Blackie, come here. This is our new friend, Little Lu.”
After finishing his chat with Xia Li, Chen Tao turned around to pick up his dog.
“Holy crap, why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost?”
However, Blackie kept his tail tucked between his legs and struggled desperately when Chen Tao tried to pick him up.
Just as he was about to lift him up, Blackie let out a terrified yelp, wriggled out of Chen Tao’s arms with a carp’s leap, and instantly disappeared into the living room.
“Why is this dog acting so strange today?”
Chen Tao didn’t think much of it and turned to Lucia apologetically. “This dog is called Blackie. He’s usually boisterous, but he’s not feeling well today. I’ll introduce you to him next time.”
“Oh…” Lucia didn’t understand why the human male wanted to introduce her to a dog.
It didn’t seem to matter if she didn’t know it.
It was hard for a dragon and a dog to be friends.
“Let’s go. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
Xia Li took Lucia’s small hand and returned to the third floor under Chen Tao’s envious gaze.
“Was that dog afraid of you just now?”
Xia Li took out his keys while Lucia waited quietly at the door.
“Don’t know.” Lucia shook her head.
Recalling Blackie’s reaction just now, Xia Li found it quite amusing.
Even without magic or a towering physique, a dog was still afraid of Lucia, who had pure dragon blood?
It was said that dogs and cats had much more sensitive instincts than humans…
He wondered if other species were afraid of her too.
If lions and tigers were afraid of Lucia, wouldn’t it be fun to take her to the zoo?
“By the way,” Xia Li remembered something else, “You probably have claustrophobia… You should try to avoid entering small spaces without windows in the future.”
“I have secret phobia?” This was a term Lucia had never heard before.
Xia Li turned the doorknob and entered the house.
“Claustrophobia, claustro-phobia,” he corrected her, enunciating each syllable.
“Claustrophobia means feeling suffocated and afraid in a small, enclosed space.”
“Oh…”
Lucia thought about it carefully. She had felt that way in the car earlier, so she nodded. “Then I do have claustrophobia.”
◈◈◈
Back home.
Xia Li stood in front of Lucia’s dragon’s lair and started thinking…
Since Lucia was sleeping on the balcony because she was afraid of the small dark room, would it be better to let her sleep in his room?
Xia Li’s room had a large window facing east, which let in warm sunlight every day.
But… If Lucia slept in the bed, where would he sleep?
Moreover, a man’s room was full of unspeakable secrets.
“Do you want to sleep in the bed tonight?” Xia Li decided to ask for Lucia’s opinion.
“Sleep in your bed?” Lucia asked, “Where will you sleep?”
“I’ll sleep in my bed too… After all, there’s only one bed in the house.”
The camp bed couldn’t be considered a bed. That thing gave Xia Li a backache.
If he had to choose, he would rather sleep on the floor than on the camp bed.
He wondered how Lucia had endured these past few nights… But thinking about the mess in the dragon’s lair, it seemed that a camp bed was already pretty good for a dragon.
“Sleep sleep sleep… sleep in the same bed?” Lucia suddenly became nervous.
In the dragon’s concept, even successfully paired males and females would sleep in separate lairs.
There was only one situation where a female dragon and a male dragon could sleep together…
Mating.
They would only share a bed for the purpose of reproduction.
Lucia was not ready for that at all…
Moreover, male dragons would do a lot to please the female dragon when courting… What about Xia Li? He wouldn’t just trick her into sleeping with him, would he?
Lucia’s expression was complex. She hesitantly looked at Xia Li and then looked at the living room as if nothing had happened, her ears turning red.
Xia Li’s words were undoubtedly a blatant invitation to the evil dragon.
“…Let’s talk about that later.”
Seeing the silly dragon like this, Xia Li knew that she was thinking about something strange again.
As expected, he still didn’t understand dragon customs well enough.
“When the weather gets colder, you can’t sleep on the balcony anymore. I’ll clean up the small dark room and buy another bed.
From then on, I’ll sleep in the small dark room, and you’ll sleep in my room… My room is bigger and has ventilation. You shouldn’t feel uncomfortable.”
“I… I’ll sleep in your room by myself?”
“Yes.”
“Okay…” Lucia agreed this time.
After all, it was the lair of the Brave Hero Xia Li…
She would make sure to leave her scent all over Xia Li’s lair!
“I’m going to work. You can watch TV. I’ll put on Animal World for you.”
Xia Li turned on the TV, and the deep, magnetic voice of the narrator came from the TV.
“Spring is here, and it’s time for all living things to…”
“Forget it,” Xia Li switched the channel in a second.
“You should watch the children’s channel. The cartoons they’re showing now are quite suitable for you.”
Lucia stared at the flat humans on the screen and pouted.
She had just started to understand this invention called television, and she couldn’t even understand three-dimensional characters yet, but Xia Li wanted her to watch these flat paper people.
And what was wrong with watching Animal World…
She was an adult dragon, why couldn’t she watch those scenes!
